I have issues with music in Ridge Racer on PSP.
Earlier I had no music, it was fixed with some patch for CD-DA music. Some music works, some music doesn't, and I dunno what to do.
Any thoughts?

By issues I mean screeching and squeezing.
>>3394019
Play Ridge Racer 2 instead since it's a straight up upgrade of the first game. There's literally no reason to play the first game.
Also, not retro.
>>3394046
I meant the very first Ridge Racer for PSX I try to play on PSP.
So this... is the power of PGXP.
Looks bretty good.
Why are you destroying the original artists vision?
They knew the ps1 did this to the textures, so they designed them to look this way!

It's impossible to counter the effect, as it's pretty random how it would be distorted. They just made their assets and hoped for the best.
Which games take the most skill? Is quake really harder than starcraft?
Well the South Koreans have proven that StarCraft is all about math and they've figured out the exact, perfect sequence for an optimum game. With that said, there's no more random elements, even against other players who also have the math memorized. So yes, with that in mind I'd say Quake is harder that starcraft, if for no other reason than it has an element of unpredictability.

this is the ultimate apple/orange comparison. there's no comparing the two skill-sets. i've played competitive quake 3 for ~15 years. there's no way a starcraft player is going to pick up the game and come anywhere close & vice versa. the question is...is it easier to master quake 3 or starcraft? i think both are deep-skill games, in that one can continuously refine and become more sophisticated at the game. quake demands more physical and reflexive skill, more precision. strategy can take it to the next level, but it's nothing without muscle memory and sharp reflexes. quake is more like boxing, requiring reading and predicting your opponent. starcraft i assume is far more cerebral, and physical quickness is instead the supplementary but critical skill needed to manifest deep strategy. they're quite opposites. from my experience, i think more starcraft players could eventually master quake than quake players could eventually master starcraft. i'm not saying quake players are dumb....but starcraft at its apex probably requires a greater balance of brain and brawn, while you can get away with just insane experiential skill in quake.>sorry if you were looking for a simplistic shitpost>if you meant literally quake 1, then starcraft

So when you play an arena game that doesn't have hitscan weapons and you need to lead your target by like four seconds, what's that?
Besides tribes.
Do ROMs exist of various virtual pets, or has lack of interest/non-uniformity of the hardware been a barrier?
General purpose V-Pet thread too I guess.
there isn't roms perse but there are remakes on android phones. I've never personally tried one because I have enough digimon pets.
>>3393290
I was always fascinated with the inner workings of these things when I was a kid. On top of Digimons, I had a bunch of bootleg V-Pets that came with no documentation and I tried to take notes on as much as I could.
One interesting thing about the original Digimon is that each character has a specific chance of beating each other Digimon, with two separate 'type advantage' triangles between Adult Digimon.
>>3393597
I had no idea there was that much behind the first versions! I convinced one friend to get it after I bought one, but we where always out of sink; he was at rookie when I was at champion and vice versa, so the fights where always one-sided.
Also, I could only ever get numemon...
Lets of a thread about this crazy man.

>game uses numpad for crucial functions
>you're on a laptop and picked it specifically for low system requirements, but now find yourself stuck with an unplayable game.
That's just the way it is with old games. A lot of them had joystick support though, so you can try that. In fact, pic-related requires a joystick, you can't even play without one.
What's more annoying to me is games that require use of the mouse, when there's a perfectly good full keyboard at your disposal.
Btw it's Control-F1 to bring up key remapper in dosbox. Other emulators usually have something similar.
Just got my GB BOY COLOUR. Enjoying backlit GBC Games in my dark cozy bedroom now. If someone has questions I am glad to answer them.
Game: Dragon Slayer. All Damage Build right now, next playthrough will be Warlock or DEX Thief.
Love you all. VR is love, VR is life.
one of the best things in my opinion: if the batteries are empty I just have to put two new ones in, like the real GBC. No stress with build in batteries shit. I just have to take a 10 pack of batteries and can play for a week. just need a everdrive now... where can I get a flashcard for the Gameboy and which one is the best?
I take it you got one without the built-in games like I did?
Mine cost £17 with SMB Deluxe, DKC and Tweety carts thrown in. One of my all time best purchases.

Are you enjoying your lessaccuratethanemulationwithalowqualityscreenchineseknockoff that you wasted money on?
I haven't touched the Lunar series ever and I've decided I want to jump into the first entry.
Should I play...
Lunar: The Silver Star for Sega CD
or
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete for PSX
or the not-so-retro PSP and GBA ports?
>>3392947
None of those are ports, they're all very different takes on the same story.
In honesty, the PSX version is the best ones. GBA version is pretty bad, and I've not played the PSP version. Sega CD is decent but it's ridiculously easy.
If you enjoy it and decide to play Lunar 2, it's entirely your call whenever you play the original or the remake. Both are good.
Original Sega CD version.
avoid the handhelds but either council version is good.
you're gonna see a lot of, perhaps justified, bias towards the CD version here though. Especially in regards to eternal blue
I finally understand after all these years why Mario has slippery physics in Super Mario Bros. It's because as long as Mario's sprite is in a constant state of "Move at least this many pixels even if not at full speed," then if you're falling down against a wall and there's a single block-sized tunnel, Mario will slip into it, even if you're not holding the run button! That's because while Mario is falling straight down, the game is also registering that he should be moving X-velocity forward, even if he has no visible forward momentum because of the wall.
Or it's so that he can move forward a whole block after punching a coin block.
Or, you know, they just hadn't gotten video game physics down at that point yet.
>>3392738
It was programmed that way, they altered luigis traction and stuff in the never released Smb2 game.
There's also super luigi bros which flipped the game the other way and used luigis gameplay from the second game for the mod.
Speed Marios bros is also made to be faster. Don't have a second player game mode however.
>>3392738
Like most platform games, when you're moving up against a block, the internal logic briefly has the player's hitbox inside of the block itself, and slowly pushes the player back out. That's why when you do the minus world glitch, Mario slowly slides out in the direction opposite that he was facing. Doesn't have anything to do with their choice of physics; momentum-less games like Mega Man do the exact samr thing.
This game was one of my faves next to TOP GEAR because of the soundtrack mostly and because of the game presents itself. The awesome panning camera angle at the start of every race! Yes, I know this game has some flaws. But daymn I loved this game and I wish that it could be remade with the same soundtrack but revamped and the same straight forward driving it had but with amazing graphics

I loved that one too. I got it with a copy of Lamborghini AC as a kid and for the next couple of weeks, all the hours I spent on gaming were dedicated to racing games.
The SNES had a really good library of racing games.
>>3392547
Found this game about 7 years ago via emulation. I remember being blown away with what they achieved graphically considering it isn't a SuperFX title.
I tried to buy it but I don't think there ever was a PAL release
is that a 3D game?
All CIB (Mario 64 missing manuals) for .99 cents each at goodwill.
I still have the shakes from the excitement.
Sounds like complete bullshit especially since goodwill ships all their games to their online auction. Also, no goodwill price tags on any of those boxes

How many retro games run at 60 FPS on consoles?
This is one I can find.

Almost all of them.
Hard Drivin'
NES games often run at slower framerates to minimize dot crawl. SMB, Dragon Quest I, and Castlevania are three I can name off the top of my head that do run at 60 fps and you can see they have horrible dot crawl.
Do I have every SNES game worth owning?
Chakan, Super Mario 3, Legacy of Kain:Soul Reaver, Mutant League Football/Hockey, Luigi's Mansion and Call of Duty Black Ops.

FF7, we've all seen it, we all remember it, iconic as fuck, even if the game is overrated.
I assume this is considered retro since it launched in 99. Anyone else have fond memories of this game? or maybe even still play?
I remember crafting my Atlan staff and the feel of pure joy.
