I can only wonder how many other ways you'll come up with to keep people here interested in game magazines.
>>3401274
I'll be interest if some uploads the entire back catalog of Gamest issues.
nice, been wanting to raed these for a while
Can we have a thread in which we discuss things that absolutely blew ass?
This piece of crap has to be high on the list.
>You NEED this baby if you want to get the best quality sound
>CRISP REAL INSTRUMENTS
Oh you were real excited when you took this bad boy out of the box and plugged it in.
Then you were hit by a wall of instruments which all sounded uncomfortably like out of tune banjos.

Prices for almost everything were crazy. You think paying a hundred bucks for a game sucks now, try it in 1993 when you wanted to play Phantasy Star IV.
Also when CD based systems started being made, quality was not high on their priority list. I've had so many Sega CDs and Playstations die on me.
the fact that DOS and early Windows were very easy to break
All the ephemera dealing with old disc based consoles, you know the cheap CD scratch things (DiscDr) and the like. Hell the ephemera for NES and SNES was bad too
How about racing games with an overhead view or 3/4 view or such things, do they get better than RC Pro Am, because I suspect they do not.
Love RC Pro Am.
OverTop, Mille Miglia, and Neo Drift Out all come to mind.
Micro Machines V4 is basically the most recent overhead racing game with an abundant amount of cars and polished GFX and gameplay.
I had the PSP version back in 2006, it was a really good game. Features a lot of different tracks and vehicles you unlock over time w/ different stats, lots of different car variations.
Everything else in recent years honestly just feels like poo to me.
>>3400176
Neo drift was truly amazing, one of my favorite arcade games.
Want to play this, which version is the best?
>>3399908
I don't know anything about this game, but a quick Google search tells me it was on the Amiga so I'm going to go and say probably the Amiga version, since the Amiga versions of pc games were usually the best.
MD/Gen has close-up battles and more varied music.
many seem to favor the Apple IIGS version, but I find the organ-only pretty boring
Genesis version is totally acceptable and easy to run but it's windowed. A quick browse tells me they all are though.
Alright let's settle this once and for all:

Shinobi III isn't just the superior of the two, it's quite possibly the best game of its genre on the Mega Drive.
>>3398379
No, Revenge has better level design as well as difficulty. III is a very good game but it doesn't feel as much as a Shinobi game imo since you can move so fast.
>>3398408
>No, Revenge has better level design as well as difficulty.
I disagree.
>III is a very good game but it doesn't feel as much as a Shinobi game imo since you can move so fast.
You can move so fast because the controls were vastly improved. Therefore it's better.
Has anyone here actually beat this game? I don't think I ever even passed a single dream level.
I remember taking a serious crack at the Genesis version on an emulator in a reconquista against long buried childhood frustration and couldn't do it. It really is incredible that the three platformer levels manage to be bad and unfair in totally different ways
>>3398348
>I remember taking a serious crack

its hard as fuck. i used to have a copy. i miss it.
Is /vr/ capable of having a King's Field thread? Favorite game/level?
I really quite like the look of the PSX games. It reminds me of old CGI clips, and it's incredibly atmospheric to actually play, for some reason.
How do people refer to the games usually, seeing as they went full square and had 2 become 1 and 3 become 2?
I've only played the (japanese) second, and at first I found it bothersomely slow, and at times I still do, but having that full open world is amazing to walk around through, it really is an adventure, and not being able to whiz through it gives it a feeling of proper mass, so in the end I love the fact it's so slow.
People may disagree but I think putting a water hazard pitfall right at the start was a genious move too; obviously they want to include pitfalls in the game, and teaching that when dying is of the least consequence is brutal, but absolutely justified.
I could talk about this shit so much, but I'm worried that noone really cares for it, probably being turned off from the two points I just mentioned, probably more. Truly a game you can enjoy immensly, but is lost in the modern market.
I've played 1-4 but I haven't beaten any of them.
At least I don't remember getting stuck or having any real issues.
Probably one of my favorite /vr/ related series. Semi related, has anyone on here tried Echo Night? Spooky mystery Kings Field seems right up my alley.
THIS GAME IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, HOLY SHIT
Too bad it isn't very fun to play and Ristar sounds like he has laryngitis.

>Too bad it isn't very fun to play
Shit """""""""""opinion""""""""""""""""
>>3397394
There's a reason why there's no sequel
Can I get some spoiler free tips for Final Fantasy Tactics? I played Advance and this is pretty different, anything I need to know?
Use two save slots. There will be a fight in the story with a save and if you don't manage to win that, you can't go elsewhere to grind abilites you might need.
>>3396507
get genji stuff. Steal if you have to.
Ninja's catch ability is really underrated.
>>3396507
I wish my PlayStation still worked :(
Thrift Store Finds/General Thread - Post your recent finds, things you saw at a store, or something you're looking for!
Pic related is my recent find. Bought a bunch of 5.25's with games on them, mostly copies, and a bunch of software on the ones in the box. The 3.5's are sealed.
I found a broken ps2.
I have way too many of those floppy vaults bought because they had games. I think FDEs are going to make loose disk games pretty worthless sadly.

/vr/, PLEASE help me find the best crt tv money can get. be it a monitor or an actual tv.
Any name-brand TV on the side of the curb.
Sony PVM. Look on craigslist or ebay for PVMs. Bigger ones are expensive but if money's no object, no big deal.
Honestly though just a good set from a reputable brand (Sony, Panasonic, JVC, etc) is more than enough.
>>3395614
I'm kinda looking for one with a headphone jack and three composite cable outputs. Sharp contrast is a plus too btw
Let's have a thread for the best system of all time: the Nintendo.
What are you playing on it? I've been playing a ton of Wario's Woods.
Wario's Woods controls better on the NES than on the SNES, just a thing that I noticed.
Hot slots.
I played Quest for Ki if FC counts.
Bitch can jump like crazy.
Finally installed Darkloader to play some fanmissions.
Any levels similar to Bonehoard? I want to feel that feel of plundering crypts and robbing graves.
bls resbond

SCURVY OFF TAFFER, THIS IS NO PLACE FOR YOU
>>3381925
There's an image floating around full of fan mission recommendations for TDP and T2. I'd try /v/.
Hey, I wanted to play through the SNES version of Final Fantasy 4, however, I wanted to play the Japanese version with an English patch.
What's the most accurate patch at the moment? I ask since last time I checked the only one that existed was the J2E one. The J2E translation borders between being hilariously bad to straight up garbage.
Firstly, when you can't read Japanese (implied by your post) how do you then regard any translation objectively?
Second, just play the damn game. It's fun.
>>3403668
Because when it makes references to subject matter that an early 90s RPG wouldn't know anything about then I can assume it's poorly done. Not to mention everywhere I've read has confirmed how shitty this translation is.
http://legendsoflocalization.com/reader-feedback-ffivs-fan-translation/
All I wanna do is play it on the SNES with the best translation possible without losing any of the features cut out from localization. Capiche?
There's nothing wrong with the J2E translation.
Literally impossible.
>>3403306
srsly, can someone explain where da fuc does this 'making a thread trying ur best to obscure the game in question' culture comes from?
OP chose a screenshot that imagesearch cant name, but still a poor choice given the writing reveals that its likely a Star Wars game, i even have SW racing for the N64 but i dont recognize the screen at a glance, at least on the catalog thumbnail
whats even the point of this sort of thread making??
that is, not to mention the content aspect, a single phrase of minute meaning.
