>comedy point-and-click adventure games will never be as good as they were in the early-to-mid 1990s
There are some fantastic serious ones (Technobabylon made me cry), but most of the comedy ones these days suck.
Let's reminisce about the good times, /vr/.How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
I thought Ben There, Dan That was a pretty fun homage to the old adventure games.
>>3703914
They suck because, as with many games, imitators only know how to copy the superficial aspects.
>Oh, dialogue trees! That's where I fill all the writing with jokes, right?
>Oh, animated scenes! That's where I make something wacky happen, right?
Insult swordfighting is a good example. Yes, it became a meme, but it's also a legit puzzle where you have to use the lines in new contexts at the end. And a lot of Guybrush's dialogue contained detail about the world or subtle hints about what to do, it wasn't just witty quips.

The sequel was pretty good too. They really captured the spirit of the old monkey islands without seeming like a nostalgia wank.
>tfw finally translated
Holy hell. You mean it? The whole series?
You magnificent bastards.

What are some good 2 player/multiplayer games ? A friend will come over in a few days and would be great to play some fun vs/co.op games. No N64/ps1/dreamcast games please
Bomberman my nigga
Lots of shit on Genesis
Toe jam and Earl, bonanza bros, alien storm, golden axe etc
ISS Deluxe, it's easy to grasp and a great 2 player fun, if you like soccer.
Bice mice from Mars, Top Gear is good too.
SNES generally got decent ports of fighters, SSF 2 Turbo, World Heroes.
Has anyone here had success playing a burned copy of CTR on a playstation with the swap trick? It just sits at "Sony Computer Entertainment Presents" with no sound. I've tried two different brands of CD as well and two different NA images I found (one was slightly smaller than the other) and they all have the same problem. I've tried it on two playstations and a psone as well. Any idea what the problem is?
This is a great game!
>>3703661
It is! I have tons of great memories of playing it with my friends as a child, and now that I have a PS1 multitap I found the other day I'm trying to get a burned copy to work so I can play it with those same friends again later. Someone here has to have an idea as to why it locks up with the swap trick?
>>3703661
I was still playing CTR regularly with family and friends up until 2010 or so, there isn't another cart racer like it.
What did they mean by this?
Also, interesting/goofy sprites and animations general
>>3703490
it means you are a wanker
he gets so excited from combat that he wants to bust a nut
>>3703490
But it's true to the original
For starters, how many of you got the japanese version on a US cart shelf?
i used to have that particular version, despite being bought as a gift from a friend back in my teenage years for my birthday, it was bought on Toys r Us, and it was weird that it was in japanese.
then i found that here in mexico around the mid 90s they were selling a bundle set with the game and it was the japanese version, a cousin of mine got a SNES later and he got that particular set, pic related.
Also SF ports discussion
>>3703157
that looks like shit
>>3703157
Nobody cares about spicland unless its a bootleg
>>3703157
>got the japanese version on a US cart shelf
wtf does that even mean
>here in mexico
well that splains it.
Was this game a mistake?
>>3702897
No.
>>3702897
>sold well
>it's a good game
>introduced new enemies and items that are still used in the series to this day
I wish more companies made mistakes lake that.
No, it wasn't.
>No save feature
>Not even password
>Tails can't fly
>Shield power-ups are plain
>Compulsory Super Sonic transformation
>S&K just adds Knuckles to the game
>Infamous final boss>Infamous casino level
Why so many people consider Sonic the Hedgehog 2 better than Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
Sonic 2 was released as a full game.

Why so many people consider Sonic the Hedgehog 2 better than Sonic the Hedgehog 1?

You can always do the level select code. It's not like Sonic games are long or challenging anyway.
Is the 8bitdo snes controller objectively better than the buffalo/ibuffalo one? It works as a usb controller too right?
I don't mind paying more if the quality is there.
And is it just me or is it thicker than a standard snes controller?
I got the wireless 8bitdos. They are great.
8bitdo makes amazingly good controllers for a shitty cheap chink company.
I don't know from personal experience, but I usually see people say that Buffalo is much better than 8bitdo.
Which Virtual Console games for Wii /vr/ recommends?
There aren't many that aren't straight up ROMs/emulators outside of seizure pattern changes, and the ones that matter have been dumped already.
About the only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Monster World IV for the official translation and Super Mario Brothers 3's GBA port for having all the card scanner exclusive levels.
N64 isn't bad, but not even Nintendo can nail the emulation.

Homebrew channel, it's quite easy to install
VC is the worst download platform for buying and playing old games
If you're just trying to offload excess wii points I'd say get Star Fox 64 or Wave Race
what's the best team to beat the elite four with in this game that is also good against battling with my friends? i was thinking lapras, tauros, nidoqueen, rhydon, zapdos, and exeggutor but im thinking i might need an arcanine or something. we had all agreed on no mewtwo when we battle each other
whats your gen 1 team look like /vr/?
Well, I'm only halfway through, so rn it's Drowzee, Wartotole, pidgetotto which i may ditch, golem, arbok, and a vulpix I just recently caught.
why am i even replying.
This is what I had for leaf green recently:
>Aerodactyl
>Nidoking
>Charizard
>Dewgong
>Jolteon
>Victreebel
Aerodactyl was great. Victreebel was worthless, a CUT slave that I just decided to keep.
>>3700565
aerodactyl's moveset is god awful in gen 1 though unfortunately
Reminder that this is the only authentic way of playing retro games.
>>3700475
>tfw I use composite for all my retro consoles
I don't see the point in going full crazy RGB modding setups anymore.
Same thing with upscalers. I use an upscaler, but only to capture footage, I play on a 13 inch CRT using an AV switch otherwise.
Yeah buddy keep telling yourself that.
Okay. S-video outputs are cool too.
Buddy got me Vagrant Story for the holiday which was super swell of him, never got to play it before.
what am I in for
confusion
>>3700424
The game has a real nice built in FAQ that explains a lot
I tend to keep a separate weapon for each enemy type but I don't mind the time it takes to switch weapons
If you can't seem to hurt a boss by wacking it with a weapon then try other means like chains and break arts
Weapon customization and the localization you wish PSP Final Fantasy Tactics got.
Also wine.
Hi /vr/ greetings from /toy/. Visiting my parents going through old boxes looking for toys and I found my old n64, dreamcast, and ps1 consoles and games.
Besides ebay is there any websites that will buy this stuff no questions asked? Not looking to get top dollar just to de clutter. Everything is in good condition. Thanks for any advice.
Sell it to an Anon. I'd say me buy I've already got plenty and I don't really buy lots anymore to resell.
>>3700005
Do you guys have a BST here? I would rather it go direct to anons that would enjoy it. A guy on our BST is interested in some n64 games.
>>3699998
I'll buy all of them.
What's the best Contra game?
3, followed by Hard Corps, followed by Shattered Soldier.
The rest are kinda shitty.
>>3699925
1 and Super C are still great, wtf is wrong with you. Super C also has the least annoying gimmick stages, which are a problem for Alien Wars and kinda drag the game down.
It really annoys me how weak the sound effects and music in 3: The Alien Wars are. The SNES is capable of much beefier sound, there is no excuse for the explosions sounding worse than ones on the NES. And the music is so tinny.
This is a problem with Hard Corps as well but at least the explosions sound crunchy.
