So I lost my beloved wolfenstein for gba cartridge, and now I'm back on pc playing it.Now I've played Zdoom for 8 years and doom legacy for 3 years before that, are there any ports for wolfenstein like it? I mainly just want to be able to constantly strife and I guess mouse look with strifing instead of holding a strike button, I don't want TCWolf because I still want the core enemy AI and movement speed and whatnot.

What FFIII remake do you think he's playing on SNES? Did you comment just assuming there was some easier remake you could shit on him for playing? Jesus fuck. Even if you say you just saw the remake logo it's pretty much the general FFIII logo, now. I see that one more than the Famicom logo, even if people are talking about the Famicom version.

The not retro Tony Hawk Underground]/spoiler]. Many hours put into it. I loved the story line, and almost RPG aspect of it. I used to change the look of my character based on how the story was going. I could pull 10 minute grinds and piss off anyone I was playing horse or any sort of trick attack with.

Is input lag the biggest meme of all?
I was just emulating SNES on a Wii connected to a HD LCD TV using a wireless Wavebird controller, and the lag was not noticeable.
50 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
the lag is there, but its effect is often exaggerated by mostly memesters and dumbasses who forget to switch appropriate settings on their lcds on, willingly adding 0.2 seconds of lag
if you're only into casual play and don't compete in tournaments, do score runs and other shit like that, there is a big chance it just doesn't matter for you
>>
I definitely notice the lag when playing certain NES games that demand precision. SNES games, it depends. Overall, I think SNES games were designed to be less demanding than their 8-bit predecessors. I'd definitely notice the lag when playing Super Mario World or Super Punch-Out!! on an LCD, but it wouldn't render them unplayable.
>>
tv's usually have a response time of 10-25ms with all the baggage disabled. My friend who played smash regularly on an emulator on his laptop, over the internet played with me in person a week ago and he was getting destroyed, saying the game didn't seem right. Mind you, he was playing a lot more, I only really play smash when other people are around but the only excuse for his bad playing was that he had adjusted to the "speed" of his incredibly unoptimized setup and when put down with the real hardware in front of a CRT, he couldn't adjust. There is a noteworthy difference and it does affect how you perform.

I got a NES Mini for Christmas While it's a cool product, something about the scrolling and input timing feels just as off as unofficial emulation.

If I'm not planning on doing any modding, what is the best version of NES, SNES, Genesis to buy? Do those Everdrive cartridges work just as well as real games on NES, SNES, and Genesis? Until I can purchase all this shit, how good of an option is hacked Wii on a CRT? I know Wii can do 240p and have a CRT that can take component or S-video.

It's probably your TV. There are a lot of valid criticisms one could make on the NES Mini but as I understand it, input delay is pretty low.

These days the AV Famicom is probably the best NES for the money as is with no mods
1chip SNES is the hands down winner for unmodified
Genesis gets a little trickier but most people will steer you toward the original "High Definition Graphics" model 1. I personally love my X'Eye but they've gotten expensive enough you'd probably keep your budget lower maintaining a model 2 Sega CD.

Wiis are really cool for retro eulation on CRT but even using a wired Gamecube controller there's still more delay than with real hardware.

As far as flashcart compatibility goes the N8 (nes) and EDMD (genesis) everdrives have almost perfect compatibility plus some adfitional compatibility you wouldn't even probably be expecting (FDS on N8 and Master System on EDMD) but the SNES ones do not support all special chips, and even the most expensive one (SD2SNES) doesn't support SuperFX games and probably never will.
>>
>>3699160
I thought it was the TV too so I took it over to my brothers Samsung KS8000. It still felt off.

I'm not to worried about budget but I don't want to tinker that's why I think I'll avoid those professional CRTs and RGB stuff for now.

Any other SuperFX games worth picking up besides Starfox and Yoshi's Island so I can find those seperatley?

Thanks though.

I liked this one, dunno if it's retro enough (2001).
By the end of my childhood I was playing Emperor's New Groove and Shrek 2 for PC. First was cool, but Shrek2 was bad in hindsight. I had lots of fun anyways, as with Harry Potter PC games (first three) and Worms 2.
I sidetracked from Disney, oh bother.

I bought the ENG game at a thrift store because I was curious about how they could make a game around that.

It's not amazing but it's really good for a licenced game. The controls are surprisingly smooth.

Just got a hold of a Genesis (this exact model), what are some lesser known titles I should get?

Well it's a score based game for one, also the gameplay is simple enough. while the OST is limited the could've had a disc slot for users to bring in music CDs, or, a more plausible idea for a modern version would be to have an online connection to use music from the internet.

Has anybody successfully made old games to work with a touchscreen, either with a wacom stylus or finger input? My target games are dungeon keeper, fallout, seven kingdoms 2, among others. I'd image they work great with touch input, if only I could get it to work.

So far I've tried it with a thinkpad x200 tablet (stylus input, Ubuntu 16) and a crappy Laptop hybrid with a AMD C-50 32-bit processor (finger input, Windows 7). I'll describe what I've tried with these two devices in the next post.

Since most of the games I'm trying to play are bought from GOG and use dosbox, I tried to understand why dosbox does not process touch input correctly.
Dosbox still uses the old version of SDL, namely 1.2 instead of 2.0. I did not fully understand why; it seems there is not much demand for touch support and the devs don't want to break things by porting to 2.0 when everything is still working fine. The question which I would ask is how long this will last until everything breaks by using (very) old libraries, but I'm not a dev for dosbox.

At first I tried to find someone who might have ported dosbox to SDL 2.0. Apart from a guy who made the whole touchscreen a touchpad (which is not my goal), I found this dosbox version:

www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=48303

After installing from source (on my thinkpad), I somehow got dosbox to run. Dungeon Keeper however, crashes with illegal read and write memory errors.
I'd imagine this would crash on my windows machine, too, so I didn't bother to try to find a way to install the SDL 2.0 dosbox on windows.

After a while I abandoned the idea of getting dosbox to run and try to get KeeperFX working. It's able to run natively on windows, so I tried that. Mouse behavior is 'controllable' but the screen is still emulating a touchpad. My last hope is to try the nightly build, maybe it works with that.

Anyone got any more ideas on how I could get old games to work with a touchscreen?
>>
>>3698802
>My last hope is to try the nightly build, maybe it works with that.

I tried the nightly build, it did not change anything. I think that KeeperFX already uses SDL 2.0, but the touch input is still not registered correctly. I don't know if the SDL upgrade will help at all, I'm out of ideas.

cool blog faggot.
As you've discovered GOG is your problem. GOG. Not even once. I've managed to play lots of games on my tablets.
An active stylus gives you a much wider range of games to play because you can use the coil as a pointing only device and the buttons as buttons.

I just got a Dreamcast and I figured I should check out how the leaked Dreamcast version of Half Life was on it. It's a shame it didn't get to be released because it seems like it would be a solid port with a bit more optimization to make the framerate not garbage. The controls aren't great but they work well given the constraints of only having one analog stick. I'm even kind of tempted to see if I can't hook up the controller to my computer and figure out a way to get that control scheme working on the PC release to give myself a challenge while also having it run decently.

Playing that has put me in the mood to see more stuff of this sort. What are some interesting unreleased versions of games that got leaked in a playable form? Even better would be leaks of full on original games that never saw commercial releases.

If you never played Star Fox 2, it was never released but you can find a nearly completed ROM online
>>
>>3698808

Damn, how did I not think of that? I think I played it for like 10 minutes years ago but I ought to give it a better look.
>>
>>3698754
The version of Half Life that leaked was gold, it wasn't going to get any more optimized. It's still pretty spectacular for the DC, the constant loading is probably the worst part, aside from trying to play an FPS with one analog stick.
