How come no one has been targeting cycle-accurate emulation for anything post-SNES?
N64/PS1 could do with one.
It would run slower than molasses.
>>4095364
Because actual real programmers aren't full-on autists like Byuu. Anyone else could've fixed that missing chopper shadow on one nobody-cares game without that, but no, he had to go full retard.
>>4095364
At that point the developers mostly weren't thinking in terms of individual cycles. Programming N64 or PS1 was a more "modern" experience than NES or SNES.
why is doom so awsome
>>4095238
Because you poop on games
>>4095238
Ignoring your gay spelling, Doom succeeded because it had tight controls, fast gameplay, and was also pretty revolutionary when it first came out.
>>4095246
>tight controls
How many people who say this, actually play with the default control setup?
This game has really unconventional hitboxes and weird enemy invincibility. What's the key to being good at this game?
Normally in beatemups, you want to exploit enemies by being above/below them, but in this game it seems that attacking them horizontally is more efficient because (1) your punch's hitbox has much greater horizontal coverage than what appears on screen, and (2) your hitboxes have shitty vertical coverage unlike most beatemups.
What's the trick to being good at this game? I already know about stuff like the hidden weapons, Huang's 5 hit combo, grab tricks, etc. But none of them will up your game necessarily. This game seems really bread-and-butter, so to speak (I don't mean that in a bad way).
Play defensively, don't rely on grabs, learn some good strats for the bullshit bosses (6, 8, 9), a+b when surrounded, watch the chinese.
In sum don't play it like say, Final Fight, you need to get used to the quirks of this game.
Hyperstone Heist is a legit great game and better than Turtles in Time. Turtles in Time (SNES) is still really good though.

>play defensively
Thx for the pointers. Playing with that mindset got me farther with one coin. It's definitely one of the hardest Capcom beat em ups.
On a side note, I thought Tower of Doom would be really tough, but I spent some time practicing the game, and its balance is really well-done and the game is quite fair and moderate (i.e. not cheap). It's certainly more challenging than it's super-easy sequel, but I think Tower of Doom's difficulty is a bit overstated by a lot of people. After about 7-8 practices on the Red Dragon, I was able to figure him out and now I can take him out without taking much damage. The last boss is pretty easy too with the blitz move. Granted, I haven't tried the Beholder yet, and I would probably have a lot more trouble using the Elf than the Fighter.

What are some of the best games for SNES?
i really only played: Mario World, Megaman X, Zelda, Final Fantasy games, and the Fire Emblem games on this thing growing up .
Any game recommendations?

Kid, you've only been playing on emulators. Why are you pretending otherwise?
>>4093452
Yup
Just DL a fullset and call it a day

How do you store your carts, /vr/?
I have a couple of these for Supers and 64s carts, and for when I start collecting NES, I have been eyeballing the ALS ES-2800s

Reference picture of what I want to get in the future

Nearly all my carts are in boxes in storage. I have a few flash carts and similar things that I play on. Wouldn't be caught dead with storage like that. Actually if I had shit like that I'd probably be found dead, alone, virginity intact,my flesh eaten by my 27 cats.
I just have my most important / played carts in a shoe box, the rest are in boxes in the garage

Does it ever happen to you dear anon that you get nostalgic for a game you didn't actually grow up playing, BUT it does remind you of that time/era? I get this for Monkey Island 2
I'm chasing a Japanese childhood I never had
I'm kinda jealous to my older brothers (who are 10-15 years older than me) who go to experience all the cool nerd shit before it was considered retro. My oldest brother was coding his own games before I was even born, traded pirated games with his school buddies, and had DOOM lan parties before I could even talk.
I still have all of my brothers old floppy disks, computer magazines, and even some of their old hardware laying around. My oldest brother is turning 40 soon and he's still gaming. He's a complete normie now and refuses to check out games like Space Station 13 because "the graphics suck". What a guy.

You do know Lode Runner exists on pretty much every platform ever right?
For each platform, what games hit the upper limit for what was possible with the hardware? Graphical, gameplay, flavorwise?
For the GBC I'd say its between pic related and mgs
neither of those
Star Fox probably count for the N64 and the SNES
What are some cute retro games? My nomination goes to Ristar
Monica is cute, CUTE
Do Re Mi Fantasy, Milon's Quest is a pretty cute game, the graphics could give you cavities, and the protagonist looks like some button nosed shota trying to cosplay a Mario and Link fusion.
Kirby
I don't have international knowledge of gaming since i grew up in the USA, but does anyone know if the 1983 gaming crash effected anyone outside of North America? I'm sure it effected them in some way but I am unsure as how much of an impact it had abroad.
Very little impact if any.
>>4089941
The crash literally was a crash of the American market/industry.
Gaming wasn't mainstream in yurop then, so it didn't matter there, and Japan has always been self-sufficient anyway.
>>4089948
Nah bullshit. You owe Nintendo for saving the gaming industry.
I never played these games properly as a kid but I remember enjoying the brief time I spent on them at a friend's place. I'm thinking about getting the remaster trilogy, especially since so many fags are waiting about hard they supposedly are. A hard game would be refreshing.
Anyway how do you rate the original trilogy as platformers? What would you give them out of 10? How would you rank them with other classics like the dkc trilogy on snes, smw and Mario 64?
Cheers.

Fun games desu.
I was an edgy teen when they came out so they skipped them but in going back and playing them as a full-fledged adult they're probably the best example of the 2D platformer being translated directly into 3D space and they're quite fancy looking considering how early they were in the 5th gen especially the first game.
ITT: we try to figure out what the hell Yeah Yeah Beebiss I was. other mysteries also allowed.
>>4089114
Here's another price chart from Funcoland.
Is there anything we can gather anything from the price being $33.95? Can we assume the release date would be similar to other games around that price?
>>4089114
BEPIS?
>>4089128
"Here is literally every hard fact about Beebiss:
Yeah Yeah Beebiss I made its first known printed appearance in an ad for New York-based mailorder company Play It Again (which is where that image comes from) in the June, 1989 issue of Video Games & Computer Entertainment. The exact same ad, with the exact same list, re-appears in the July, August and September issues. The Play It Again ads printed both before and after this period do not feature the game.
Immediately after Play It Again stops advertising the title, a new mailorder company called Funco advertises its own list in the October issue, and it too features the game (shortened to "Yeah Beebiss I"). However, a closer look reveals that Funco's list is an exact copy of the one Play It Again had been running previously. This same list also shows up in the November and December issues, before Funco changes to a new list in January and Yeah Yeah Beebiss I quietly disappears from the world.
There is still a large discussion to be had about Beebiss, and I have WAY more to say, but for now those are the facts as we know them. It was advertised seven months in a row, only by these two companies, and all seven of these ads are based on the exact same list, which was generated in early 1989."

This is quite possibly the best known compilation of what is known about YYBI, and also that might work. You could also try yen differences assuming this game came out in Japan too.
The only games I can enjoy anymore are NES RPGs. I love the simple premises. I love the rigid systems. My favorite game of all time is DQ4. My favorite Final Fantasy is FF2. My gaming revelation of the year was the NES port of Might & Magic 1. Is something wrong with me?
What are some famicom classics that might have been overlooked by western retro gaming audiences? Are any other CRPG ports any good? Being able to look through pots and cupboards for items is a huge plus.
Not famicum but sounds like you would enjoy the Romancing Sagas.
Sounds like me except SNES rpgs.
>>4096682
I've been meaning to get into that port, I hear its the best version of M&M 1.
Any advice for starting out or general strategy? I find that once I get into the groove of a game I'm fine, but starting out can be rough.
What's your opinion of these guys and their games?
All the 1980-1983 arcade stuff is great. But nothing beats the raw sexual power of Bosconian.
I liked them better when they were called Namcot
>>4096565
Well considering my favourite games are ace combat and time crisis I am pretty fond of them
