has there EVER been a more poorly designed console? being a technical powerhouse on paper doesn't mean anything when the average developer can't take advantage of it
>has there EVER been a more poorly designed console?
See anything in the 6thgen or later minus the GC.
>>4099175
The Fairchild channel F, Atari 5200 and especially the RCA Studio II
>>4099181
>See anything in the 6thgen or later minus the GC.
Nah, all of those were well designed, other than the PS2 using a completely different philosophy compared to the rest of the industry (extreme parallelism). GC and DC were small but powerful, Xbox was excessively powerful and paid for it in size.
Saturn makes sense in that they wanted to bring the System32 to home, and then the industry took a 180° for triangle rendering - so they beefed up the machine and it became more complex.
Did anyone beat it? the game is literally from hell, and has the longest levels I've ever seen in a game.
>>4098010
Came in here to YES but then I noticed this is about 2 not 1. Was the jump that bad? Cuz 1 wasn't really except for the crappy 1st person platforming
>>4098019
Navigating was shit. Some levels were poorly designed, they were like never-ending mazes, especially Hive of the Mantids and Lair of the Blind Ones
Does Turok 2 have respawning enemies like the first one?
Which games were like the FIFA games of the 90s?
And which games did non-conformists play?
Or did normies play video games at all during the 90?
Take your memes and leave.
>>4097496
>Which games were like the FIFA games of the 90s?
I'm currently experimenting with RPGtoolkit, but it doesn't seem suited towards an "active battle system"
I tried solarus but you have to make someone install the engine too to launch the game
rpgtoolkit is good, but does anyone happen to know how to code in a Zelda-style system for a program that's meant to make RPGs?
use 6502, 65816 or z80 asm
>>4096114
What do you mean?
>>4096108
Do you want to make a Zelda game, or a game LIKE Zelda?
If you wanna make a Zeldalike, then look for engines built for 2D games and learn whatever is needed for that.
If you wanna make a Zelda game, but don't wanna do romhacking, http://www.zeldaclassic.com/about/
First thread on /vr/.
What are the top 10 games that are fun to play from 1980-2000?
Playing Link to The Past right now, its pretty good.
As far as I'm aware right in the 90s games started becoming full with stuff to do. Before 90s it feels really bland. Am I wrong? Is there anything worth actually playing from before SNES era? Something that will make you go "Hey that was an amazing game that has aged really well"
>>4095174
>top 10 games
I think there is a good half of thousand of TOP games.
>>4095276
I put the top 10 on instinct. What I should have written was "essentials".
Im trying to play the classics by years. Starting from 1990.
>>4095174
>Before 90s it feels really bland. Am I wrong
yeah fuck off
>game that has aged
you memer
ITT: post hidden gems
>mixture of MGS, Dino Crisis, and RE
>limited inventory, tank controls
>kinda feels like Fear Effect in terms of gameplay except fully 3D
>>4094812
It got shit on by reviewers but in a lot of ways I like it more than MGS.
Playing it right now, the only flaw is the lack of raise weapon button, this way aiming is wonky a bit
>>4094812
Delta Force: Urban warfare
Calladutah on the PS1.
>>4094815
Man I want a modern Delta game so badly.
Why are these games never talked about?
They were good games and revolutionary back then.
Every kids had NFL and Madden 95
I never liked EA games.
Technos' Kunio sports series was my jam as a kid. And NES Tennis.
>>4094035
Because mainly only black kids bought them.
NHLPA '93 is the best fighting game for the SNES
Genesis Does What Nintendon't
Even in death....
I gain more and more respect for Sega as a company by the day.
Yeah they made some bonehead decisions in a business perspective, but they still seemed to care about the people actually playing shit.
NEW for $15 on Amazon. That's damn near the best $15 you can spend.
I mean, yes emulation is perfect now and free, but showing the big S some love for treating fans with decency with a $15 tip is cool.
I bought my copy long ago BTW. Rarely play it as emu via Wii on my Trinitron has a better picture, but at the price of $20(when I bought mine), I decided to throw Sega a bone. They earned it. A shame the Saturn is such a complicated shit. A Saturn collection would be godly.
>>4091295
Is the sound off in that collection too? It's really bad on the PC release.
>>4091352
Nah it's pretty good; based off the Model 2. PC release is good shit if you use the Unity front-end.
why did the dreamcast get so many weird and experimental titles? not saying its a bad thing, but if you remove all the arcade ports and fighting games you are left with a bunch of weird fucking shit.
Who cares why. Just appreciate that they're there.
Japan.
To match what the dreamcast was?
Now that the dust has settled, was Karen right, /vr/?
>>4101819
who the fuck is "karen sy" and where the fuck does this shit come from
>>4101819
some rando from the internet days of 1995 and these conversations were in old forums and alt. groups. t. underage
She was partially right, especially because she wrote that in 1995.
But the real reason consoles are better than PC is because of the games and the japanese developers, not the graphics.
Been playing through Castle of Illusion and I'm loving it. It's a quality platformer that's also fairly challenging.
Anyone else appreciate some retro Disney games? The Illusion entries on the Game Gear are supposed to be good too.
>>4101504
Check out World of Illusion.
>>4101506
I picked that one up and wasn't as impressed with it. Does it get better? Honest question, the first couple levels were kinda meh for me...
>>4101516
It's pretty good. Mickey and Donald each get some different levels, and playing co-op switches things up too.
I've always wanted to get into these sexy mahjong games - are there any English fantranslated ones? Also, what's the best way to start learning how to play Mahjong?
Also: let's have a thread about retro sexy games in general
>>4100976
Mahjong may seem complicated but it really isn't.
I'll once again recommend this oldie site for beginners and it even has game-specific advices for MAME games.
http://mahjonginmame.com/
I'll advice about learning the various yaku for MAME games as the game usually deal generous hands that can culminate in crazy scores like Thirteen Orphans or Big Four Winds.
Arcade games usually stop at titties and panties, you'll have to delve into PC or PC98 games to go further.
Aside from mahjong, Koi Koi is fun and Star Platinum (PC or PC98) or Koi Koi Shlmashyo (Arcade) are a good start.
About translation, I don't know of any localized game. They're perfectly playable without knowing Japanese and you're only missing on the story.
>>4100976
Almost the same pose. It's a nice pose.
ArcSys Variable Geo reboot when
So, /vr/, can you help me out?
I'm looking for a beat em up on SNES that has a little mechanical depth, like a real challenge and that's skill based. Anything like that exist? TMNT is fun but it doesn't really feel like a challenge anymore though it does at least have some decent depth. I'm looking for something similar.
>>4100671
Brawl Brothers, perhaps?
Knights of the Round, maybe? Honestly, I don't think the SNES really had any deep beat-em-ups.
I was moreso looking for something that wasn't really an arcade port but made specifically for console play. Imports are cool too.
>>4100689
I'll check it out, thanks.
>>4100690
Haven't tried that one yet. I'll give it a go. I also have a Genesis/Saturn/64 if that helps. I already have Guardian Heroes which scratches that itch. I'm looking for more games like that.
What are some recreational/comfy games /vr/?
Sim City on SNES
>>4100313
Are there "non-recreational" games?
>>4100343
Yes, actually.
Why the fuck won't it start?
>>4100279
Probably because Configuration not OK!
>>4100280
A little explanation on the error on what the fuck isn't OK would be helpful
>>4100279
You clearly need to "make configuration OK".
So get cracking!
