The only games I can enjoy anymore are NES RPGs. I love the simple premises. I love the rigid systems. My favorite game of all time is DQ4. My favorite Final Fantasy is FF2. My gaming revelation of the year was the NES port of Might & Magic 1. Is something wrong with me?

What are some famicom classics that might have been overlooked by western retro gaming audiences? Are any other CRPG ports any good? Being able to look through pots and cupboards for items is a huge plus.
>>
Not famicum but sounds like you would enjoy the Romancing Sagas.
>>
Sounds like me except SNES rpgs.

I've been meaning to get into that port, I hear its the best version of M&M 1.

Any advice for starting out or general strategy? I find that once I get into the groove of a game I'm fine, but starting out can be rough.

The first few hours are really rough, I can't really speak in favor of the game's balance either but I still enjoyed it for what it was. Here are a few tips :

- BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, make a beeline for the guy that lets you change your characters' classes and races, somewhere around the top-left corner of Sorpigal. Your starting characters are completely useless and horribly gimped.
- Loot gained from enemies isn't collected automatically, you have to search the tile you triggered the encounter on after combat. Bags contain money and chests contain items.
- Speaking of, loot will generally be trapped. Some traps inflict minor status effects and some of them inflict heavy damage. It's good to ask yourself whether the risk is worth it before you end up losing half of your party for a mere 6 gold pieces.
- Fainted (FA) characters aren't dead, you can restore them back to health by resting or by using healing spells or items.
- Resting will also cure minor status effects like Blindness.
- Your fighters get hit multiplers every two levels. This is their primary strength and makes all the difference in the beginning; by level 3 you shouldn't be having as much of a hard time.
- There's a really annoying bug where the rest of your party loses their turns when a character falls in combat. There's no way to work around this and it can end up putting you in a critically disadvantageous situation. You'll have to live with it.

It's always good to see DQ2 get some love, people are always so quick to lump it in with the primitive DQ1 when it's so similar to the rest of the series in terms of design and quality. It doesn't even feel like an inferior predecessor to 3 and 4: most of the classic spells, most of the classic enemies, most of the classic magical items are already there, it established as many series staples as 1 did. It's a quality DQ game through and through.

Mother 0
Dragon Ball Z famicom titles
>>
Double Moon densetsu, Silva Saga, Columbus, Sweet Home, Sansara Naga, Destiny Of An Emperor, Last Armageddon, Megami Tensei, Magic Of The Scheherezade, Radia Senki, Madara, Lagrange Point

these are all translated (badly in the case of Last Armageddon) so try them out and see if you like any
Armageddon is somewhat unique and has a levelling system similar to FFII

word. The remix is a perfectly fine game, one I had lots of fun with despite its cryptic nature.

You should try roguelikes. Really you should.
