I was about to replay Shining Force 1 for the first time in a while, and I was wondering what /vr/ thinks about the GBA remake.
>>4085942
Discussing remakes is allowed.
>>4085965
Explain this thread then >>4080418
>>4085942
It's… not great.
Pro: There are some nice little tweaks that make the gameplay less tedious, and the translation of the story is much closer to the original Japanese (the English translation of the Genesis version left out some majorly important fucking details that are necessary to understand wtf is going on)
Con: The graphics and sound are kind of fugly compared to the original Genesis, and the addition of new characters, interlude chapters, and card collecting are truly pointless and annoying. If you play the GBA version, you *will* detest Narsha.
Conclusion: Play the Genesis version, but get the story by reading a transcript of the GBA version or a re-translation of the original (shiningforcecentral.com is your friend here).
Star fox 2 has now been officially released
Now these two are canon
Thoughts?
>Retroactive canon
Fucking kill me
>>4082973
I'll consider buying one when they come out in september.
I don't think these two are canon now just because the game is getting a limited release. I'm not expecting to see them in any upcoming Star Fox games, assuming the series isn't kill after the colossal failure of Zero.
Besides that, 64 rebooted the series, and Zero soft rebooted it again.
Also is there any merit to these characters beyond waifufaggotry?
>be a Sonic fag
>excited for Sonic Mania
>Whip out the old Genesis
>Lets start at the beginning!
>Get through Marble Zone with 10 lives and 3 chaos emeralds
>Think I'll breeze through the game
>Get no more Chaos Emeralds
>Lose 10 lives on Labyrinth zone boss fight
>Lose lives on Starlight and Scrap Brain Zone
>Scrap Brain Zone 3
>Game Over
Was Sonic the Hedgehog always the hardest Sonic game, or am I just getting to old for video games?
It's not that hard, but the ring system gives you a false sense of security for when the game starts throwing instadeath everywhere.
Sonic 1 is the patrician Sonic game.
>>4099893
>Was Sonic the Hedgehog always the hardest Sonic game, or am I just getting to old for video games?
Nah, Sonic 2 is worse.
>Level contains disappearing blocks
>Level contains autoscrolling elements
>Level contains enemies that drain your level
>Level contains disappearing blocks that drain your level while the screen autoscrolls
>Level contains disappearing blocks
Sounds fun, the game will test my reflexes.
>Level contains autoscrolling elements
If tightly designed can be a fun ride.
>Level contains enemies that drain your level
What games? Also that sounds more like something that would happen on an RPG, not a platformer.
>>4099740
I think autoscrolling levels with disappearing blocks actually combine to make the two easier overall since by autoscrolling you know that there will be a block appearing somewhere on screen.
There is literally nothing wrong with autoscrolling, even in a platformer
as for the disappearing blocks
you never got over the lava without the flying skateboard, admit it
wow, it doesn't look all that bad, especially the snow level https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX5Tc-Flxqw
I wonder what's taking the guy remaking it so long, I've talked to him and apparently it's still in development
It looks pretty fucking bad, man.
>>4099497
>waiting to play sonic lost world prototype
>>4099504
get outta here mariofag baka
>>4099506
I want to play the ones in the video
>great graphics
>great music
>translating Castelvania gameplay to 3D
>got terrible reviews
Explain this.
>>4098804
Some gameplays aren't easily transferrable into 3D.
Unfortunately, 90s won and everything is 3D today.
>>4098804
It did not get terrible reviews. This is a commonly repeated myth that can be disproven by 5 seconds of googling
>>4099030
This, at worst it received mixed to good reviews.
Probably it did received some bad ones, but most of them were mixed to good.
What am I in for?
>>4098612
The absolute best Mario RPG ever made, to the point you wonder how Paper Mario ever became a thing and people didn't pass on it just for not being even half as good as this game.
>>4098630
Oh fuck off, SMRPG was better but Paper Mario is still fantastic.
>>4098612
A decent game.
>>4098630
Nope.
Mario Tennis is the best Mario RPG, followed by Mario and Luigi, then Paper Mario. SMRPG gets to sit in 4th place with TTYD.
So I got an old laptop with a 100 mhz Pentium processor, 3.5" floppy drive and a pretty shitty panel. It runs Win 95 just fine and I wanted to play some games but since the screen is so slow I'd have to play stuff that's turn-based or something. Just slowly moving the mouse makes it vanish completely, that's how slow the screen itself (grey to grey time) is.
Any recommendations?
I only have a few floppies so it'll have to be under 10mb or so.
no vga output on it?
>>4098535
I'd have to get a monitor or a cable that would fit the output, I think it's an s-video.
S video ?
I have a pentium "s" 100mhz from either 1995 or 1996 (on bios) and it was vga since the moment i had it in 1996, wanst vga already estabilished ??
I wouldnt know since my cousin had a 486dx 66 which was just as colorful iirc, but i myself went straight from msx using composite video on regular crt tv, to the pentium 100 with a pc display samsung syncmaster
"Sorry for this request but you fellas are the only ones capable of helping me:
I remember a character or NPC saying something like "Oh god, What have you done?" In a British accent, in a game.
I've searched my memory and it felt like a simulation game as it was said quite often. Or it was a stealth game where you had killed something in sight. I'm really unsure.
Please help me in finding this game."
I went to /v/ and /wsr/ for help but they couldn't help me (Even with the sweet lies at top). Now you're my only hope. I know it's vague but i still hope there are some of you who know of this game (I don't think it's a recent game considering the repetition of the voice line).
if it talks, then it probably wasn't /vr/
>>4098279
You're a fucking idiot
Even Starcraft and Warcraft 2 talk
>>4098279
I'm pretty sure what i'm asking for doesn't belong in /vr/ considering the fact the NPC have voice lines BUT games had that already at 1993 (Lands of Lore) so i might be wrong. That's why i am asking here.
>People actually believe the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn can compare to the PS1 when Crash 1 alone is far superior to their entire collective libraries
>Let alone Crash 2 and 3
OP is...not a faggot for once. Wow.
>>4097752
It looks better than every single N64 game.
>>4097752
I had both consoles and PS1 did have more games that I liked.
boy oh boy that texture warping sure is """""charming"""""
>Retro3D literally makes my skin crawl
whoever did the texture on that model needs to be shot.
Looks cool
I really enjoyed this game. I may be autistic but i cant find many others that are similar. Do you guys happen to know of any?
>>4095807
starflight?
>>4095809
Would you personally recommend?
>>4095810
havent played it, but I think I should get around to it
Whats the deal with loading psx iso files on a ps3 with cfw? Does it only work with homebrew emulators or can I load the iso files into the official built in emulator like a retail disc?
You can load disc images. There are no homebrew emulators. Sony's emulator doesn't have cue file support so games with Redbook audio are a hassle.
>>4096008
>games with Redbook audio are a hassle
this. just play on PC
is there a way to protect fat ps3 consoles against ylod?
Will we ever get a true sequel?
Nope.
It hurts.
By Nu-Square-Enix? Why would you want that?
>>4095318
It's a one-of-a-kind, like Ergheiz's Dungeon Mode or Vagrant Story really, representative of pre-merger Squaresoft in their creative apex.
So I happened to buy a Vic-20 on ebay for a good deal, $60, but it didn't come with any games. What's the best way to get games onto a Vic-20 for $20 or less? All the options I see(SD2IEC, buying a tape drive, SD expansion carts) are ridiculously expensive and are probably going to run me about half of what I spent on the console itself, not to mention that I sill have to buy a video cable for it. Any Suggestions?
>>4093718
Are tape drives really that expensive? Huh.
I'd say knuckle under and get one of those SD cartridge things or the SD2IEC. If it avoids tape load times, it's worth it.
I used to start a game loading and then go make a sandwich or something.
I had a ton of games for my VIC. We bought this upgrade thing called "The Mother Board" that let you install like eight cartridges and switch them off and on, and it had a feature to dump carts to tape. So we could go down to the game shop and rent a VIC cartridge, then rip it to a cassette tape.
It was pretty sweet. I've still got a cassette of Ultima: Escape From Mt. Drash in storage somewhere, though I think the box is long gone.
>>4093718
>good deal
No
>ridiculously expensive
No
There are many drive emulation options but SD2IEC is the only one viable for you
Buy a 5500 tape drive and a cassette-to-headphone adapter like you'd use to plug your phone into a tape deck in your car. Download the games in wav format or better yet use a program that converts disk images into wavs and play them over your phone, through the tape drive, into the vic.
A floppy emulator would be better, faster and work with other computers you might buy in the future but it would be more like $40-$50.
