New Pattaya general? Okay.

>ladyboys are women

That too.

>why is it so taboo to talk about pattaya?
'Cause there are literal autists on this board who can't hold a conversation without revealing their power level and spewing a bunch of cringe shit.

e.g. >>1183765

>and are the girls there (not the traps) incredible
Depends on the definition of incredible, but thin and eager to do stuff for not a lot of money (Western Euorpe, US and AU standards), then yes, yes they are.

I'm going to costa del sol in december for a bit more than a week. I'll be based in Malaga and I really want to go to Granada and also curious about Gibraltar. How is it at this time of the year? I also wonder if the public transport in the area is good or is it better to just rent a car? Any other places that I shouldn't miss out on?

Also Spain general

Complete travel noob who just scored a one month round trip to Madrid for $400 on the recent google flights sale. I'd like to see Granada, Gibraltar too, as well as Sevilla, Portugal and Morocco. Don't really have any advice but I'll be watching this thread as well.

I live in Granada right now. Of all the places I've been it's my favourite. you can easily kill a few days here, it's a bit cold right now though. In my experience public transport here is fine but I don't have to use it too often. Let me know if you have any more questions.
>>
>>1185385
Málaga is a great city, definitely good for walking. Public transportation is great as well. The beach towns heading towards Fuengirola are depressing, filled with older expats and a bit run down. Gibraltar you could do in a half a day, the caves are cool. It would be a shame to miss Sevilla, you are only a short train ride, definitely recommend you do this for a day trip, maybe even zip over to Granada/Córdoba as well.

Hi /trv/,

I was thinking in doing a backpack in the region of pic related, doing this
Boston (+outskirts like Plymouth and Salem) - 5 days
New York - 10 days
Philladelphia - 5 days
Washington - 5 days

Do you think is it enough/too much for them?
Also, if you have +5 days, where would you go in this region?

You are aware that you are going to be mugged multiple times if you that, right?

They really need to put this as a sticky on /trv/:

If you are traveling to the USA,
YOU
NEED
A
CAR

All of our infrastructure revolves around car travel, and it's going to be a pain-in-the-ass for you if you don't. Now, because you are going to be in the Northeast Corridor, they are one of the few places with acceptable intercity rail service, so that's a possible alternative, but you are still going to need some sort of auto transport to get from the station to your final destination.
>>
>>1186059
Not true in the Northeast. It's basically Europe light. There's a train that connects those cities. You don't want a car in new York anyway.

OP I would fly or train from NY to Philly and get a car there that you use to drive to Washington. It'll be handy in those two cities but Boston has a good transportation system and a train to NYC.
>>
>>1186147
yeah you could definitely do the Northeast without a car

Following situation:
A friend of mine (Taiwanese) is working as an Au-Pair in Switzerland at the moment, but her contract ends end of this month, which means she will lose her residency permit and visa which are tied to her being occupied as an Au-Pair and thus will have to leave the country.

Now with Switzerland being part of the Schengen-Area, would she still be eligible for a 90 day visa-free entry as a tourist upon entering Germany after losing her Swiss visa? We figured she might as well stay the 90 days at my place sort of as a hub and do some Euro-traveling before actually going back home.

Or would she have to fly to the UK first for instance, and then come back to Germany in order to get a visa?

I know it's kind of a special case but maybe someone on this board has experience in this field or had a similar situation happening.

>>
>>1185286
Swiss here.

The 90-day visa free entry is only valid for selected (mostly european non-schengen) countries (like Albania, Serbia etc.). With her being non-european citizen, your idea will most defintely not work.
>>
>>1186231
https://www.eda.admin.ch/countries/taiwan/en/home/visa/entry-ch/up-90-days/do-i-need-a-schengen-visa.html

I'm not Swiss, but this didn't take too long to find... People from Taiwan don't need visa to enter Schengen.

So all OP's friend needs to do is to leave Schengen before her au-pair related visa expires (do not wait any day later), and afterwards re-enter Schengen to get a 90-day visa free tourist stay.
Probably easiest to book a ticket somewhere to the Balkans or the UK.
>>
>>1186236
>all OP's friend needs to do is to leave Schengen before her au-pair related visa expires (do not wait any day later), and afterwards re-enter Schengen to get a 90-day visa free tourist stay.

I'm not 100% sure this will work.

The Schengen zone has a "180 days out of 360 days" rule -- non-EU nationals can only stay in the zone for 6 months in any given 12-month period on a tourist visa, and not continuously at that.

You're saying that by re-entering the zone her visa clock will reset to zero (since she's switching visa types). Maybe so, but I can easily see how it would not.

Say she's already been in Switzerland for the past 6 months. Upon re-entry, immigration might say to her "You're a tourist. Tourists are only allowed to stay for 90 out of every 180 days. You've very recently been here for 6 months, therefore you must wait 3 months to re-enter."

If she'd been there for 9 months, she'd have to wait 6 months to re-enter. If she'd been there for a year, she'd have to wait 9 months to re-enter.

In any case, OP, shouldn't your friend call immigration and ask them directly? Being refused re-entry is a big deal, so better safe than sorry you took the advice of a (obscure nationality) (obscure handicraft) board.

Can someone give more info on using ATMs and the incurred charges.

Im going to Thailand with only a card for expenses but im told that you incure 2x service charge if you use them and spend more than you would if you had hard cash

I dont feel comfortable carrying so much cash

>>
>>1185245
Fees are usually about 180 baht, plus whatever your bank charges. Some ATMs will ask you if you want to convert to ypir home currency, as far as the transaction your bank sees. Never do this if you are withdrawing large sums (which should be the only amount you withdraw) , unless you bank fees are crazy, you will losr money on the conversion.
>>
>>1185248
>180

Is that true with all atms because i was planning on taking out money whenever i needed it like i do at home, which would result in a hefty charge if im being charged 180 baht everytime

Any way to get around this?
>>
>>1185258
Don't do that. Take out at least 10,000 Baht at a time, 18,000 would be more advisable. As I said before, you want to take out larger amounts, less frequently. Not frequent small amounts.

18,000 baht is only a little over $500usd

I have found rather conflicting information about the winters in Madrid online so I guess I'll turn to the most trustworthy source I know. 4chan.

I am planning to visit a few days - up to a week in Madrid late January and was wondering if the weather at that time could possibly make the trip less enjoyable.

Any other info or tips in regards to traveling to Madrid are also appreciated.

Half a week sounds about right. Stayed 3 days in the summer, i'd recommend 1 or 2 days more if you want to visit museums and stuff.

I liked Edinburgh better than London, which I found a bit bland. At least compared to Paris, but then again i'm French so I might be biased.
My favorite part of Scotland was definitely the northern part, basically Ullapool and up. Can't wait to go back and see more.
Pic related was taken in Kinlochbervie

I went to Edinburgh last weekend, Really enjoyed my time. The city itself is really beautiful.

Don't be a pussy. Extremely hot weather is great. Because 1. You get to wear barely any clothing when going out and it's completely socially acceptable, and 2. When you're at home you get to relax and have the air conditioner on full blast while sipping on ice cold beverages. And that's the comfiest thing ever.

Not sure if "The Somme" includes it, but you should visit Beaumont-Hamel, scene of the July 1, 1916 attack by the Newfoundland Regiment that cost them 85% casualties in about 25 minutes.

It's run by the same Canadian govt department that runs Vimy Ridge. One of the few battlefields left that you can see the original lines of the trenches and shellholes. They have to use sheep to keep the grass down due to the amount of unexploded ordnance.

Extremely cheap tickets from the US to many European cities are available until October 2017. I've never been overseas before. I've narrowed down my options to Paris, Rome or Barcelona. Born and raised in Anchorage. You need to love doing stuff outdoors. Skiing, Hiking, etc. needs to make you tick. If it doesn't, you're going to be miserable.
But if you like that sort of stuff, it's great. It's very small town, but you can't beat the outdoors and the solitude.

Plus, we just legalized weed, so that's chill.
