I've never been out of the USA. How would it be possible to live abround without much money? I work in the restaurant industry here.
>>1188953
OP here. Was thinking of an English speaking country in EU.
>>1188953
You thinking about moving, or just going someplace for some visiting?
Also, you may want to give us some specifics about where you are looking to go -- different places come with different expense levels.
>>1188953
You aren't going to live abroad anywhere as a legal resident unless you have money for investment or the educational qualifications necessary to find gainful employment. If all you have is some restaurant experience or a bachelors with two years in the work force, you will not be able to emigrate anywhere in the EU.
That'd be like the United States offering visas to Pakistanis for the sole purpose of driving taxis. Developed countries do not need a foreigner coming in to take jobs when they have plenty of locals who can do the same.

No offense, m8, but I think you need to do some research before posting here again.
Me and my buddy are planning a last minute trip to Iceland. Leaving December 16th and returning the 21st. We are both avid backpackers and would love to see the wilderness some way. The weather right now looks to be about 40F so no snow. We also really want to see the northern lights. Has anyone done a trip like this? Any recommendations or advice?
What is accessible right now?

Pic related is the current plan.
Me and my buddy booked the trip, arriving 5AM on Friday and leaving 330PM on Wednesday. Here is a preliminary trip plan, let me know if there is anything glaringly wrong.
http://imgur.com/a/FwB8L
Day 1: 5AM - Pick up car and drive north route displayed in map, stay at airbnb up north.
Day 2: Drive down south and see Golden Circle, and other points on map in the circle shape route. Stay in Reykjavik.
Day 3 + 4: Drive the southern coastal route to the black sands, glaciers, and up to the national park. Thinking about booking an ice cave tour.
Day 5: ??? undecided
I'm hung up on the car rental situation. Will a small economy car be good enough to get where we want to go? I can drive a manual and I am a good drive (I'm sure everyone says this).

Meant to say Tuesday
What are some times you had your expectations of a trip differ from reality?
>i assumed Russian food would suck, however it actually ended up being quite good.
>>Thought Japan was going to be magical place with slice-of-life scenery, slutty cute school girl that go "kyaa-kyaa" and like to have sex with any stranger that bump into them, a harem paradise and a place that no problems exist that can't be solved with the power of love and mahou shoujo. Also found out that Japan has no subtitle.
I thought Serbia would be dangerous and that I'd get people being aggressive to me if they found out I was from the UK. Was completely wrong, I had an amazing time and really loved going round Belgrade.
For some stupid reason i had this idea in my head that brussels would be all posh and boring because of it being the HQ for the EU and being a business city.
Hah. People literally squatting and shitting in the middle of the street in BROAD FUCKING DAYLIGHT. Refugees EVERYWHERE. Going out at night was an experience, mobs of street kids everywhere. Place was definitely a slum.
Oh but it was still one of the most boring places i stayed in europe so at least i got that part right.
How do I get over the fact that I'm too ugly to be an average traveler and never getting to fully enjoy it?
I feel like I'm missing out on a lot because of my looks. Not just relationship wise but the usual, finding people to travel with and making friends etc. Kinda sucks sometimes cause everything is so much harder or impossible.
>>1188313
If you are a man, it's not your looks, but lack of confidence
>>1188322
Can't be confident when you look like shit, bro.
Hey guys, I got myself a van for travel and plan to do some redecorating. How am I to go about re-leveling the back of the van and carpeting it, as well as insulation?
Google "one awesome inch"
He is doing a transit right now and vlogging about it on the Youtubes.
He kinda sucks as a builder but talks about layout in one video. Might help.
Those things are too small for me.
>>1188162
thanks man
I can't help (maybe /r/vandwellers?) but I *would* like to know about your van. Whyd you get it? How much? What you gonna do with it?
Hey /trv/, in a few weeks I'm going with a couple of friends to pic related, it's also my first time backpacking. Any sugestions? Did anyone do a similar trip to South America?
>>1187786
Looks good. I wouldn't miss Potosí, though.
If you have time to go to Ayacucho, I would suggest you go. However, it's quite out of the way. I hope you plan on leaving Cusco by airplane, yes?
Consider the north of Peru as well, most notably Chachapoyas and Trujillo.
Be careful of altitude sickness, it's no joke.
>>1187786
My gf and I had a similar itinerary earlier this year. We are from Argentina, so we took a plane to Ecuador, and returned by land.
I recommend you check out the Uyuni salt flats while you are in Bolivia.
As the other anon said, altitude sickness can mess you up, I had no problems with it but my gf was in really bad shape for several hours in Cusco. Drink Mate de Coca at every oportunity and carry Coca candies with you at all times, you can also chew coca if you prefer.
Fixed prices don't exist in Peru, you can haggle the price of pretty much everything.
Bolivia can be a little gross, we too are from South America and it was a real cultural shock for us. Other than that have fun, all the countries you plan on visiting are used to receiving tourists and people is super nice in general. Also there are lots and lots of tourists, mostly from Europe, but also lots of Asians and Israelis.
It's relatively safe if you behave like a sane person as you would in your own country.
One last thing, if you have to buy tickets to go somewhere buy them yourself if you can, travel agencies overcharge a lot for that service. Just take a taxi to the bus station, it will still be cheaper.
Have a nice trip.
I personally really liked Sajama national park in Bolivia. Not really much to do there but the scenery is breathtaking.
I wanna go on vacation.
also, is it possible to buy plane tickets outside of ukraine, using the exchange rate?
it's a country where the average person makes $10 a day

The cost of accommodation in Kiev is very high.
Hotels often overbook.
I usually homestay but it's still quite pricey.
Planning a trip to the British Isles the first week of January. I was thinking Dublin, then Liverpool, then London, but I'd appreciate your recommendations. What should a guy with five or six days to spare over there do?
Ha, depends what you are into and your age bracket...I went to Ireland to party n fuck..the Irish people as a whole are down to drink and get DRUNK. Unlike in the states I never saw any "awwe she drank too much, we need to baby sit her". Great place to party (Dublin). Really friendly people..they like Americans
who is this semen demon
>>1187582
OP here. I'm 22. I enjoy meeting people and a good night of drinking but I'm skinny and can't slam brews like some others can. What's there to do in Dublin? Ever been to Liverpool or London?
Westchester anon here, can anybody give me tips on moving to the city? westchester is boring and i dont have a car so i cant do much. What should i know before moving to the city
>>1186993
Save your money. Get a well paying job. Better to stay in Westchester and take Metro North to the city
>>1186993
fucking dont, unless your liberal. even then dont, you wont be able to leave because you wont have the money.
What is your favorite hotel to stay in? Not necessarily the best, but your favorite.
I'm a big fan of the Colbert in Paris but I'll also stay in a Peninsula anywhere.
Hostels > Hotels
Sorry bro.
>>1186926
>Hostels > Hotels
no
>>1186922
My comfort food hotel is Holiday Inn. Their beds and pillows are my favorite next to their own. I have staye din everything form 5 stars to guest houses, to people's houses when traveling, hell, even people's porches with mosquito netting, but Holiday Inn is my absolute favorite and consistently good around the world.
>>1186928
your neckbeard is showing.
Does anyone have experience with cruises? I have a chance at going to a carribean cruise soon and I wonder if it's a diarrhea mess like I've heard
>>1186177
Cruises can be a lot of fun with friends, but you're definitely getting a cookie cutter experience. That being said, if you can find a cruise hitting some countries that have historical/cultural aspects, it's a great way to see a lot in a short span of time.
Be prepared to spend a ton on drinks, eat a ton [food is actually great, at least on Royal Caribbean], and party. Bring friends.
>>1186179
Cruises aren't all inclusive? And yeah, I'm going with friends.
>>1186183
Food is. Usually there's various ala carte dining areas and also one 'formal' dinner each night with endless food, all gourmet and delicious. Alcohol not included unless you buy that package though, which can be cheaper if you know you're gonna be pounding drinks.
Excursions off the boat in the manner of tours, transportation to sites, are likely also going to be additional. On the other hand if you just want to wander around the city/coast, yeah that's free. Depends on where you are, for instance if you want to visit a Mayan ruin, you're probably best going with a guided tour unless you feel confident you could find your way there via other methods once you dock for the day.
I've finally done it boys - just booked my flights to India for the 7th of December until hopefully mid May.
I CAN'T WAIT :)
>>1185990
Cool, how much you taking? Where do you intend to go?
>>1185999
Taking roughly £3k sterling.
I'm planning on staying in Kerala for the first four months and planning to do the west coast with all the big sites up to Delhi in the last month or so.
I have a big old list of shit to see!

I'll be in Bangkok from December 28th to January 2nd. Not sure wtf to do there.
I want to go diving in Phucket, visit Siem Reap, go up to North Vietnam, and maybe even fly to Singapore but I don't have any solid plans after BKK yet so I'm open to any recommendations..

Jobs besides teaching English that don't require any skills or experience?

Do you have money? You can invest in a business. A bar or coffee shop or something
Share your tips, stories, and experiences on getting local travel companions to act as tour guides and give you a local insight to an area.
I just landed in Bangkok from Chiang Mai, and there was a young Lithuanian with a qt3.14 travel companion. I heard him remark "my brain is overloading with information" as she was sharing different things about Thailand with him. Also, she was massaging his legs while they waited yo get off the plane. Must of been good as they were the last ones off.
Nice creepshots
How do you get one?
If a solo 29-year-old was to go on a trip in Europe in January, where would he go?
I'm thinking two locations close to each other for sightseeing, general exploration and (if possible in winter) some nature/outdoors/walks/hiking activities.
I've done a lot of Spain/France and the UK, and I'm from Ireland, so any other locations would be great.
Suggestions? Open to anything.
>>1190736
Definitely Austria.
I'm not sure how into /out/ you are but I've heard Austria's Kalkalpen park is great for hiking/camping/climbing. In fact, the entire country is beautiful. Innsbruck and Saltzburg are really nice, as well as the lakes near Saltzburg. (saltzburg in particular has decent nightlife and a younger population). Depending on how much you'd want to spend, you could go skiing also. I've never been to Vienna but, again, I hear nice things.
pic related is the Chiemsee in Germany, but it looks similar in Austria, maybe more mountainous.
I plan on going to Europe in the summer to backpack solo. Is Ireland worth going far out of my way from Germany? What should I see if I'm into camping?
>>1190742
I'll check it out! Is Austria better in summer though?
For Ireland, google the Wild Atlantic Way (it's the tourism marketing drive for the entire west coast, which is where the nature/mountains/best landscapes are). You need a car to enjoy Ireland properly, be warned.
>>1190743
>Is Austria better in summer though?
Probably, but it depends on your tastes desu. Skiing is a huge draw. Not to mention I don't really know of a place in Europe that wouldn't be cold in January for outdoorsy stuff. However, I can still vouch for Saltzburg being good.
And thank you! I'll have a look at the WAW.
