I'm about to move to London for 10/12 months.
Where can I rent to avoid "street crime"?
Nowhere is safe

Follow Air China's advice

South and West London. I'd say you'll be safe in cockney areas in North and East London but all the cockneys have been replaced by immigrants now.
Hey /trv/
I'm going to Malaysia at the end of the month for about a week.
Gonna be staying mostly around Kuala Lumpur and then Johor for a couple of days for theme parks and stuff.
Any advice on what to do/see while I'm there?
Bump for interest.. leaving on sunday to Jobor for work for a few weeks. From texas. Is it true you shouldn't wear tank tops as a man? I was told showing your arms is disrespectful.
>>1178198
my brother married a malaysian girl. all the pictures he has from over there are in tanks. its hot as fugg! never heard that yet though, ill ask
>>1177734
There's a lot of things you can do in KL. Twin towers, Batu Caves, park near twin towers is pretty chill, Central Market, Petaling Street, etc. Genting Highland is also pretty close. There's big casino and theme park there.

it is hot and humid. wearing tank tops is ok. as long as you are not wearing hot pants or go shirtless, people wont care
I'm planing a trip to Gold Coast for next summer, I 'd stay there from 24th July until 30th. It'd be nice if someone could give me some ideas about what to do there.
Asshole of this planet.
I hated every fucking minute I spent in in Gold Coast. Disgusting place.
I did get really high on pills with some english guys I met at bar where I was trying to pass the time because I was dumb enough to book my hostel for two nights.
Cesspool, unless you like surfing and in that case head down to the border, Rainbow Bay, snapper and dbah. Would not recommend spending more than 1 or 2 nights maximum
July is actually their winter. Nice beach and surfers paradise was nice. Good for a short trip
Hey everyone! My girl and I are starting to plan a trip to New Zealand for early next year, maybe between March and May. Now we live in Australia so we are pretty close but know little about the place. We aren't wanting to be nestled up in the city nor even suburbia, we would like to stay somewhere more natural and mountainous. Somewhere fresh. Does anybody know any nice areas // attractions outside of the typical Auckland etc. Looking for beautiful natural sights to see. Thankyou in advance.
>>1182383
South Island, Fiordland or Mount Cook if its not raining for the next 10 weeks (2 best places in NZ), Nelson area or Kaikoura (not anymore after the earthquake) if weather is shit
North Island, Cape Rainga, Taranaki, obvious Tongariro and maybe the East Coast. My personal favourite is the lake Waikaremoana Walk as its probably the least visited Greatwalk, very remote, but very beatiful. See pic related
Get a backcountry hut pass; it's good for a year of staying in the world's most isolated mountain huts, making beautiful love in front of a coal fire.
>>1182470
Thankyou! I will look into these places and see what's good
Simple question.
I want to travel to USA for pleasure. I expect to stay there for around a month.
The thing is I'm from South America and I was wondering if I might have any trouble getting in there.
What kind of stuff USA checks to let you get in?? I've heard it is pretty picky with visas and it might even reject you even with your papers in order.
There's no way I'm wasting a single penny before knowing if I might qualify smoothly.
I'm a middle-class teacher btw, in case that counts for anything.
>>1182356
Requirements vary by country, but if you aren't on the cool list you basically have to demonstrate the monetary means to support yourself while here, and the intention of leaving. The fact you are middle class with a job will probably help.
>>1182358
Ehh they will ask to see my bank account or something???
(btw I consider all this process kind of humiliating)
Also how to show my intentions of leaving?
I need all the necessary information you can give me.
To get the visa I guess I'll get some info, but I wouldn't like to waste money there.
Anyway, my real concern is not getting the visa, but having troubles when I'm already there, since they say in the webpage you might be rejected even with your travel visa in order (which is insane).

Oh and I don't own any properties. No car or house in my name. Is that going to be a problem?
Has anyone bought Lonely Planet e-books?
I did and I got really pissed off that I couldn't copy addresses out of them because copying text is disabled without the owner password. This meant that I kept having to enlarge the screen on my phone so that I could try and read the foreign language address and then enter that in a dictionary app and then get something that I could copy and paste into maps. It took ten minutes to get an address for a restaurant when it should have taken ten seconds. I wasted so many hours on transcribing addresses in languages that I can't easily read that it's ridiculous.
So I ran pdfcrack on it for a few days and it spat out the owner password.
Did you know that the Lonely Planet Editorial Director is named "T0mHa11"?
Now you do.
That´s one shitty password.
Have a bump.

Wikivoyage not good enough for you?
>>1182484
not OP. But wikivoyage is not good enough. It is too often horribly outdated - and there is no date for you to know it.
Okay, so there's some places I'd love to go take leave at that I don't want the morale and welfare office knowing, if they don't need to know. It'd seem fishy if I went in with a list of fishy places asking if I'd be investigated if I went.
But I can't seem to find a list of places that are banned from recreational travel for US military on the web.
Where can I view a complete list of places the military can't go while on vacation?

>But I can't seem to find a list of places that are banned from recreational travel for US military on the web.

This comes up now and then on this board.
Your HR staff, whatever you call them are supposed to have a list of places that you're not supposed to go, it's more about going in uniform than anything else I think but some places you're not supposed to be.
It doesn't include Pattaya or Angeles if that's what you're thinking. Obviously BEST KOREA is on the list.
Just tell your support staff that you want to go backpacking and are there any places that you're supposed to avoid? If they ask where you're going, say that you haven't decided yet and want to plan around what you're allowed to.
Say that you're going to backpack through asia or middle-east or wherever your region is and you want to know which places in the region they consider no-go zones.
If it makes it easier, say that your friends are planning a trip and you want to join in but the itinerary isn't really decided yet so you can shape it by what's allowed.
>>1182277
From your government computer Google Foreign Clearance Guide (FCG) . They will have the information you need gor every country. You can google the site noe, but you won't be able to enter it
>>1182285
>It doesn't include Pattaya or Angeles if that's what you're thinking. Obviously BEST KOREA is on the list.
But it does include areas like Hat Yai in Southern Thailand.
What is your dream trip? Something that's attainable, but you haven't made it yet or are working towards.
If you have already done it, did it live up to your expectations? What's next?
>>1182263
I would like to visit both Israel Egypt and Jordan all in one trip for three weeks total.
But those places are not necessarily cheap and in order to travel from one country to thr next SAFELY, you'd have to cough up more shekels for domestic flights.
I don't have that kind of cash, my trips are usually less than $2,000 USD... I'm in college and working 30 hours a week but it will still take me some time to save up for this, probably a lot longer than it typically takes me to save up for trips.
>>1182265
Why those places in particular? Does the current turmoil put you off, or is that part of that appeal?
Studying and working 30 hours a week is admirable man, keep it up!
Where have you travelled on your sub-$2K budget?
Christmas in all of the major European cities
I would like to move to Maine sometime in the near future. Currently, I am living in DC. Can anyone tell me the generally vibe of Maine? This may include the way people are, the culture, coolest places to live, etc. Thanks.
>Wanting to live in Maine
there's a reason Stephen King makes all his most famous stories set there. It's well known to be both creepy as shit and haunted to fuck.
>>1182118
Mainer here; can confirm as haunted.
Vibe in some areas is probably more rural and redneckish than you're comfortable with coming from the swamps of the Potomac. Some townships are inhabited mostly by hippies, artists, and summer people -- those are tolerable I guess, good places to raise kids. Then you get places like Rockland and Bar Harbor, where out-of-staters are literally buying up entire streets of houses to rent out to summer tourists. The remaining locals live in homeless camps and ghettos. Avoid.
people that hate outsiders being driven from their homes by people who are fairly similar. everything is Maine is either extremely expensive or cheaper than you'd expect in New England, but living there would burn through money.
What do I need to know before moving to a different state? How much is a good amount to save up? Tips, advice? I am moving from California to Idaho, Wyoming or Montana.
>>1182072
I just went through a similar situation, moved from Georgia to Wisconsin. Based on the areas you've mentioned, I would say that you should make sure that you're prepared for the winter before you move.
As far as saving money, you would ideally have at least 3 months of expenses saved.
Northern idaho is full of skin heads.
But also pretty great, the bars give you to go beers and shit for your drive home.
Idaho is one of the most free and do your own kind of thing state, hell even in rural areas u aint calling the police, better be able to take care of yourself.
Good luck!
>>1182072
Its cold. also black and grizzly bears
anyone of you have experience with one of the following airlines?
- Hong Kong Airlines
- China Airlines
- Hong Kong Express
are they any advisable? about to book a flight and they sure are the cheapest airlines...
>>1181982
I used to fly china airlines a lot. Bring a sandwich as their food is kind of iffy. If you are flying long range, the whole staff will disappear, even in business class.
Not OP, but I'm also curious about Hainan airlines. I recently booked a flight with them connecting to HK Airlines in Beijing
Any experiences, reviews or advice?
>>1181982
I've flown HK Express, it was fine. No particular complaints.
Flown Hainan air a lot, it's a crapshoot whether you really get Hainan air or Southern Air or Tianjin Air, they all codeshare and it's hard to tell who's plane it will actually be.
Hainan air is probably the nicer planes out of them but they're all budget planes, I think Southern air doesn't charge extra for meals maybe.
how did you guys deal with food in long trips?
its possible to maintain a healthy diet(meat, eggs, butter, fish, vegetables etc) instead of eating garbage in a 1 year+ travel?
>>1181933
In a car? Get a camping stove.
Why would you have to eat garbage just because you are traveling? I don't understand.
>>1181936
>processed food are much easier to get and eat
Not in a car.
Also
Meat/eggs/fish requires a large amout of time and resources to get properly cooked
>>1181939
So a hotel or something? I mean, just don't go to mcdonalds, I'm still not understanding the issue here.
Parents are funding a 3 month Europe vacation for me after I graduate College, and I'm visiting all the major sights (London, Paris, Vatican). Should I learn a language other than English for my stay in Europe? Would also love to hear recommendations on Countries/Cities to Visit
>>1181918
>Should I learn a language other than English
No
>>1181918
>should ?
Yes.
>need ?
Nope.
>Would also love to hear recommendations on Countries/Cities to Visit
Since I hate vague questions, I would recommend 6 weeks in Liechtenstein, 4 hours - not one more - in Belarus and the rest of the time in Vatican.
The issue is, while you should learn a language in general, you have to double down on it and spend all of your 3 months there to extract as much contact with native speakers as possible.
So if you're learning French, better spend the whole vacation in France.
Had I had the same opportunity as you, I'd jump on German.
How long does getting a passport take when you get it normally vs expedite it? I don't trust what it says on the site, figure the community would be able to give me a better answer.
Earlier this year during spring I was told 4 - 6 weeks for regular processing and 2 - 3 weeks for expedited service.
I opted for regular processing and got it after 3 weeks.
>>1181734
Australia takes like 10 business days for regular. 2 days if you pay extra $150.
If you're an American, there are rush service places if you are leaving within two weeks. Government run. I did it and got my passport in two days.
where is dis
Africa
>>1181657
Looks like somewhere in BC or possibly Washington.
It took me less than one minute on google to find out. I'm not going to spoonfeed you. But because I like the image I won't report you this time, newfaggot.
