Nice. Is Prague the coolest place in Europe now?

I met a guy from Prague and asked him if it was as awesome as I had heard and he look surprised/confused.

>Is Prague the coolest place in Europe now?
About 10 years ago, possibly. Right now, I'd throw my vote over to Budapest.

The "cool" thing about Prague is the architecture is intact, whereas WWII demolished bridges and medieval buildings throughout the rest of Europe's capitals. The place was once glorious, the seat of the holy roman church, and during the baroque era, so, you have some quite ornate facades on many of the old buildings because money combined with fashion of the time. So there's that. Then you have the relatively recent ejection from communist rule, so you have a country that didn't keep up with the times due to extreme control, now, suddenly in the current times. But each and every year, the place gets more expats, more touristed, and you'll find the culture is hard to find, it's like being at disneyland in the height of the tourism, especially in Old Town. So, you don't get cultural immersion, hearing the united nations of languages all around you at once. But, the architecture is still cool. The food scene is all over the world's map and really damn good as is the pilsner.

Budapest still feels like hungarians live there. That's the big major difference (for now!!)

Oxuennii plan, chtobi sosnut, bratish.

You need a good diploma first (I see you like it, it's fine), proficiency in German second (duo lingo lmao), and pls make it legal, not that hard - start from Moscow branch of eg Siemens, work your way up, use a transfer/rotation opportunity (every big name has it), then settle in Germany.
Long but the only 100% way.

p.s. Hamburg, Berlin etc are shit tier, aim for either Rhein Westfalen region or Bayern.

Hi folks,

I'm going to be visiting Macedonia with my girlfriend for two weeks in May next year. We'll be staying around lake Ohrid.

Does anyone have any tips on where to visit, what to do, what to expect in terms of food etc?

>>
bumping for hopefully some information.
>>
You can do Macedonia in 2 days, not 2 weeks lmao.
Go to Bulgaria, senpai. Macedonia is the diet version of Bulgaria.

If you're interested in that, I can make you a great itinerary for Bulgaria.
>>
Yeah but I want to relax as well, that's why I got an apartment on the lake, so we can chill when we want.

Plus I guess I can rent a car and drive to Bulgaria if you've got some good stuff in the west I'm all ears.

Hi /trv/,

I'm almost buying my ticket to Warsaw and my original plan was to make a Poland-Ukraine backpacking. But today I discovered Belarus won't ask vor visa to my nationality from November, so I had to make some changes in my route. Here it is:

Warsaw - 3 days (I know yet the city, and I'll need at least 2 days for resting from jetlag)
Brest - 1 day (logistical issues)
Minsk - 5 days
Chernigov - 2 days
Kiev - 5 days
Odessa - 3 days
Vinnytsia 1 day (logistical issues)
Chernivtsi - 3 days
Lviv - 3 days
Lublin - 2 days
Warsaw - 1 day for my return flight

What do you think?

>>
I remember your old threads and your itineraries were shit because you never really followed anyone's advice. Somehow you have made it worse.

>5 days in Minsk
Holy shit, you should skip Belarus entirely. Why would you go there...just to add another country to your list?

There's literally nothing worthwhile there besides Białowieża Forest and you can find that in Poland, too.

If you have never been to Krakow, you should go there.
I would spend those 5 days in Minsk in Poland (Krakow, Zakopane, Wrocław) or Western Ukraine.
>>
>>1184730
Don't be hard on him, Minsk has some redeeming qualities. Though I'd say five days is too much if you're not going on any day trips.

Anyway OP, strip a few days of Minsk and one off Lviv and do Krakow like the other guy said, Krakow is awesome.

Anyway, have you checked all your border crossings? I was going to do a trip a few years ago from Riga to Minsk via Vitebsk I think, but had to change plans last minute and go via Vilnius instead because I found out there was no public transport.
>>
You can do Belarus, but be aware that organizing the visa will be some work (even if not that terrible).

Five days is definitely way to much for Minsk though, you´d be fine with two or three at most. Find some excursions or shorten your stay there

Kiev is cool but consider reducing your stay by one or two days. You should have seen most interesting things by then.

I'm going to USA as a work & travel slave with my friend. I won't go alone without him and he is obsessed with going to Hawaii. The problem is, it is very expensive to live there and I want to return with about 2k USD.

We both want to live and work near the ocean, because we want to try surfing / wakeboarding / kitesurfing, a job related to extreme sports would be excellent.

So the question is: is there some place in USA (except for Hawaii) which would have a great beach with at least one of these activities? It would have to be a smaller town, of course. Or do you think it is possible to save that kind of money in Hawaii without saving too much?

Also, share general thoughts about Hawaii, is it the most expensive state in the USA?

Island living is just expensive cost of living, from imported foods to higher water and electrical prices, and much of the time higher gasoline, and goods brought in via air.
Work would be seasonal in most options you pick outside of Hawaii, however. So, there's that. Winter work vs summer work. Snowbirds go south for the winter and work picks up, and then fall tourism somewhere, and good winter tourism. I don't see you able to stay in the exact same place year round with ocean activities.
Do you have work permit visas?
>>
>>1184240
yeah we do. I don't expect anything but seasonal work anyways. I'd be staying there all summer and maybe a few weeks in September.
>>

what are the best cheaper surfing cities in the US?

Hi,
So I'm currently interested in studying international economics in warsaw business school. My budget is 1300€ per month, what's the expected living cost? What would you do with that money? Any first hand experiences would be appreciated :)
Is know polish absolutely necessary for daily life?

I rented a room in Warsaw for 3 months. For a room in a shared apartment you'll play like 1000 zlotys per month. Foods pretty cheap. 1300 euro per month is heaps you'll have an awesome time.
>>
>>1184186
1300 is plenty. Warsaw is expensive by Polish standards, but it´s still cheaper than most western non-capital cities. You have more money to spend than the average local.

Anyone ever been to Bhutan?

From what I can tell, their tourism is heavily restricted. They apparently only allow a specific amount of people into their country every year, and they must book their trip through an authorized tour operator. On top of it all, it could be seen as cost-prohibitive to budget travelers.

From the get-go, it looks like going to Bhutan is a bit of a hassle. For those of you who went, what was it like? Was it worth the money/bureaucracy?

>>
Lol at them thinking they're preserving their culture by limiting tourism, while china is fucking them in the backdoor in every possible way.
>>
I have been to Bhutan. Lovely country. Pure and preserved. They keep the costs high because they don't want to become just another place overrun by cheap backpackers. So if you can afford it, definitely go for it.
>>
>>1184196

Is there really any reason to travel there other than "Hey wow look at what a strange country I went to!"? The only cool thing I ever hear about Bhutan is the Tiger Temple, and everyone has already seen like 10,000 of the exact same shot of it.

Why go when there are what seem to be infinite better options for every type of travelling (culture, natural beauty, obscurity, cost, luxury, fun, nightlife, etc.)?

How can you overcome your fear when you are travelling?

I was thinking about it a lot, I don't know if this is the right board to post but I will try.

Working every single day I realized I need to fresh up and start an adventure. I am planning to go on a trip pic. related. It looks great, 26 days with a travelling company, we will see everything in china, pandas, forbidden palace, india, nepal, tibet etc.

I have the money, and I walk around the bank every single day to send it to the ravel company. I just always find an excuse to not do it because I am very afraid. I never travelled alone anywhere (in this case we will travel as a group of strangers) without my family or friends (I am 26). What if something happens to me, what if I get sick, what if I lose my baggage etc. Maybe I am still a manchild but I am scared, and if something like this would happen to me I don't think I would know what to do, while my parents or my big sister would know it without a hesitation.

How can you cope with this fear?

You can't learn to step out of your comfort zone without stepping out of your comfort zone.

That's all i can really give you.
>>
>>1183937
>What if something happens to me, what if I get sick, what if I lose my baggage etc

Just accept it and carry on. All you can really do.

You can of course take precautions against these things (or other unfortunate events) happening to you but it is never fail-safe as sometimes events happen beyond your control or capability to see.

Just start small with easy short trips and build up from there is my advice. You'l pick up travel sense on the way making you a bit more confident with each subsequent trip. Don't start out with something really complex and fret about it - you won't enjoy yourself at all.

>>1183937
Try reading the artoftravel site linked in the sticky. I'm not sure how much of it will apply to you but it helped me get over a lot of my anxiety, partially because it gives good advice on how to prepare.

Besides the obvious in Massachusetts (Boston, Cape Cod, etc.) check out the Berkshires -- Great Barrington is a nice little city and the nature out there is the best in the state.

Maine has Portland, Acadia, and Baxter State Park

New Hampshire has the White Mountains and Vermont has nice nature and little towns, but no major parks that I would really recommend.

Considering going to the British Isles over the summer for a week or 2. I've always wanted to go to Scotland and Ireland and I have some friends in London that I want to visit.

Any tips on places I should stay/visit? I'm on a bit of a tight budget, so any cheap options would be just fine.

Interests? Objectives?
>>
Dont mention British Isles in Ireland, its an autistic thing to say and will trigger people.

In terms of scenery the west is the best, in particular Kerry and Galway.
>>
>>1183249
The primary goal was to stay in London with some friends, but I thought I'd travel around the Isles since I'm into Celtic culture and shit.

Interests? Like I said, I'm a fan of the culture and the history, but I'm also down for nature spots, like forests or hiking trails.

>>1183256
I'm not teaching geography there, so I don't intend on using the phrase often.

I've heard Galway is really good, I was considering staying there for a bit. Are there some good cultural/historic spots around the area?

Where's the best place to get foreign currency? Is it my bank before I leave the US or at the airport when I arrive at my destination city? Or another option?

My credit cards all have 1-3% foreign transaction fees, so I could use them, but I want local cash.

I'll be going to Israel in December and Japan in April if your answer is location specific.

>arrive there, locate the next atm
>insert your credit card
>withdraw $300-500 worth of the local currency
>pay a $2-5 transaction fee per withdraw
>that rate is still way better than any bank or exchange will offer you.
>problem solved.

pro tip: Most banks offer a traveler card with 0 foreign transaction fees, just ask them.
>>
>>1183234
>My credit cards all have 1-3% foreign transaction fees
So just get a card with no fees.
>>
>>1183238
This. Get some cash from the bank if you want a little money on hand when you arrive. Find an ATM preferably inside a bank. You'll likely pay a transaction free to the bank that runs the ATM (small fee) and whatever your bank charges you ($5 or 1% depending). Normally get the exact exchange rate though I did get fucked by getting money from my buddies ATM withdrawal and it was a crappy rate somehow.
>>1183239
Good luck with that.

I'm travelling to Japan mid-December to early Jan. I have 2.5 weeks, and was thinking this is how I might spend my time:

Tokyo: 2 days
Fukushima: 2 days
Tokyo: 1 day
Nagano: 1 day
Kyoto: 5 days
Hakuba: 2 days
Tokyo: 2 days

Does this itinerary look good? I have a shitload of stuff I want to do all over. Day trips would be from Kyoto to Osaka, Kobe, and Nara. I'll also be in Kyoto for December -- wondering if there'll be lots of other travellers to party with.

Fukushima I'd like to see the Zao Fox village and Yellow Fall, and maybe do some urban exploration of the exclusion zone. Not really sure how I'll otherwise spend my time here desu.

Into: photography, outdoors, exploration, culture, unique things (maid cafes, for example), and drinking

Baller. What do you recommend doing in Fukushima? I'm pretty much only going there for the foxes, and I can't find any info about the Yellow Fall, and whether or not it will be frozen over when I arrive.
>>
>>1182982
Its recommended to stop trying to be edgy. Japanese people with family and reasons to go there obviously find Fukushima safe enough to visit, but the entire rest of the country avoids the area and all the food from there for a reason. There was no reason to go there before the incident and theres a massive reason to not go there now.
