No clue what the rolls are, so Im gonna guess!

Lets say a low magic undead kingdom was raised sometime during the medieval period, because reasons. These are the kind of zombies that are sapient enough to think, plan, and do whatever a kingdom would need them to do. However they can't "infect" through biting and have to raise new zombies necromancer style. Said corpses used for raising needs to be very old and rotten. Not to aged that it's a skeleton, but certainly not fresh.
What would happen and how would the rest of the world react? Assuming they are enough to be a military power of that era.

Hey /tg/, you guys sometimes talk about wuxia, what did you think about Thunderbolt Fantasy? I've made threads on /tv/ but they are mostly ignored. Or lets just have a wuxia thread, this show left in the mood for it.

For those who don't know, it's a literal Taiwanese puppet show that's currently airing and being subbed. Check the webm, if it doesn't get you watching nothing will.

He, I'very seen someone mention this in the Wuxia thread I made a few weeks back, when we had Wulin Sage posting.

How would a laser actually work "in real life", as opposed to how they are portrayed in movies? I read that they wouldn't be like a laser pointer that slices things in half. I read that the beam of a laser intended to kill people or destroy equipment wouldn't even be visible to the naked eye but you would still kind of be able to see it because it ionizes the air or something.

The beam would be invisible to the naked eye, however the point where the beam actually touches something would be extremely bright. Also real weaponized lasers are still quite large and demand massive power supplies to get results. I'm not an expert, but if the beam is intense enough to be visible to the naked eye, whatever it touches would probably combust explosively, whether it's metal, terrain, or people, in fact people especially since they're full of water.
>>
a laser wouldnt cut a person, a "real" laser would be a brief but powerful pulse, so it would deposit a mini-explosion rather than a slow burn. on a person this would create a wound much wider than it is deep, as the laser would deposit all its energy on the topmost layer. the wound would be similar to a bullet wound, producing an open hole in the target, with profuse bleeding. it would not cauterize the wound, the rapidly expanding gases would tear apart, rather than join together

the beam itself would likely be invisible, or be extremely translucent. the visible part would probably be light reflecting off of dust or the glow of ionized air. protective gear may be required of soldiers using portable lasers.

the cooling and power supply will take up the most space. a single large pack may be more economical to use over many small packs, although spares will be essential in the field. laser weapon itself will heat up in use, and require constant cooling, a water coolermay suffice for emplaced or mounted lasers, but a smaller cooling-fan or heat sink may be required for man-portable devices, in the case of the former, a significant bulk will be added to the weapon, in the case of the later the user must carry spares, and used sinks will be too hot to carry and will be discarded

Why isn't there a better /tg/ game finding site, set up kind of like f-list?

Register a profile, make a character, fill that one out. Maybe you want to play NWoD, so you develop a vampire character. Fill in changes for a more generic urban fantasy game, maybe an HMHVV infectee in Shadowrun. RP preferences, contact information, boom. Update the character as desired. No dependency on forum threads or game finders, both of which bury posts in hours. Roll20 only does its LFG by game, not by characters seeking a game; reach out to another player, several others, whatever. Live general chatrooms for various games, private rooms for actual games (or just play on R20).

Honestly, the site in question is the best game finder experience I've had. Had a great game set up in under an hour, constantly people to play with. The only problem is the obvious NSFW/furry bent. So why don't we have a (more) SFW /tg/ alternative? Or is there one I'm not familiar with already?

Pic unrelated.

Well there's infrno.net, plus lots of characters on roll20.net and obsidianportal.com.

I think Invisible Castle was a big character gen/forum.
>>
The problem with something like that is that how exactly you build your character is going to vary from game to game, with different optional or house rules in effect, and different character concepts being more or less optimal based on how the game starts (If you're supposed to be on the side of one faction in the setting, being a member of a hostile or entirely unrelated faction doesn't make much sense).
The other problem being that RPGs are usually long term, with multiple, continuous sessions. Just wiping a character's slate clean and starting over the next time in a different game doesn't really work out, and keeping all of their progress also doesn't work out due to crunch and balance concerns.
>>
>>48347835

Are there any articles, supplements or guides to design a good wilderness campaign?

I want to do something similar to the Souls' games, setting wise: Adventurers exploring an apocalyptic medieval landscape, completely overtaken by evil, with maybe a central hub or very few, sparse safe havens dotted around the map, a place where the brave and the lost come to seek riches, glory or redemption. Think something akin to a medieval S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Are there any settings out there that fit the bill?

I don't really think that'd be especially difficult to do with just regular D&D; most of what you're describing is purely thematic, not mechanical. There's already rules for wilderness hazards, starvation, thirst, rules for not having towns or areas to heal in (you literally just don't include them), and post-apocalyptic ruins are something you just add by fluffing it up yourself.

Basically, what you want to do you're not going to find a guidebook to teach you how to do it. You're just going to need to learn to convey things and plan things so they result in the style of game you want by yourself I guess.

Symbaroum might be what you're looking for. It's set in a frozen forested wasteland called Davokar bordering the nation of Ambria, and within the forest are the crumbling vestiges of the civilization of Symbaroum. There are ruins, lost treasures, magical relics, and all sorts of glory to be had. Towns are few and far between, and the land is practically filled with (literally) corrupted monsters and evil spirits. The system is simple, combat is brutal, and characters can become temporarily and permanently corrupted and twisted towards evil. Think Dark Souls Hollowing, more or less, and spellcasting is the main way you get it.

I've never played Symbaroum myself, but I've been meaning to and I hear good things about it. Check it out, if nothing else the artwork will prove to be worth the purchasing price. Pic related is one example of many.

Alternatively, it slows the processing of the brain in regards to social situations and makes it give "false returns" like thinking a hug means "I love you" rather than "Good to see you". This results in them acting weirdly and unpredictably to social stimulus and reacting slowly.

Does such a thing exist?

If no, would it be hard to do? Competitive People have reverse engineered everything in the different games already.

Something that would remove the rng aspect of Pokemon stats, and instead just make it customizable for players to build their teams, and move sets based what they've been able to learn in the games?

Are there good minis you could use for the thing?

Yes, I've been playing Pokemon go and feeling nostalgic.

The shitty photo of a sector...btw how do you make a proper sector map?
>>
>>48346354
You open up a piece of image editing software and make a space map. It takes like zero effort.

How do you handle managing a base and organization of adventurers? I'm talking something like MGS and Assassin's Creed, where the leader (or leader party in the case of an RPG) goes out and adventures and stops the big bad threats, but still manages a group of lesser but competent adventurers, sending them out to far corners of the world to deal with trouble.

Are there any games (board game or RPG) that focus on this kind of thing? I was working on making a game about it a while back and I'm thinking of dusting off my notes.

A kind of guild you mean?
>>
>>48347982
A fantasy guild. You know, sending your dudes out to go on quests.

I like the idea of something like ACBro and onwards where you can have your Assassin recruits go off and perform their own missions around Europe. Same with MGSV, where you can send people off to different parts of the world to do their own thing and gather resources and complete missions. I want a game that lets you do similar, with gathering up and building a civilization being a strong aspect of it. Like how in MGSV you need to gather up translators and such, and in Assassin's Creed you can buy buildings and spruce up Monteriggioni and Rome and Constantinople.

I've been kicking around the idea of making a board game based around that concept, and also I want to play an RPG where its a strong focus, and I want to know where to look for inspiration. I know the Song of Ice and Fire RPG at least has helping your House grow as part of it, and I'm looking into that.

And in board gaming you could maybe say that in Dead of Winter you're building a base, if you squint.

How much can you bend rules before a game becomes just role playing?

Sometimes I become too self aware that a campaign is just some sweaty guys making shit up, but when mechanics are set and there are rules to follow, it feels like you're actually playing something. Specially the random results you may get from rolling a dice, it's not just the GM and players playing pretend, there are other elements that dictate what happens.
Which is why I don't understand how ignoring some rules to do "cool stuff" makes a game funner, there is no satisfaction.
So at what point does it stop being a game? I've played a campaign where the GM (Roy) constantly said players didn't have to roll for whatever happened, or just stated things that sound cool without a roll. It takes away all satisfaction from actually managing to do something in the game yourself.

The Neir princess that never was renounces one long-unknown birthright for another, though she has stolen the staff of her Neirhalm blood to aid in the rising of the monster of her Gerxel heritage. The older citizens of the Empire can only look on in awe as the beast that won them so much of the continent is revived before their eyes, Rene clad in purple and gold ceremonial garb.

"The wolfskin were allies of the Gerxel Empire for longer than any," she announces, pointing her staff southward, "and a single extensive defeat at the hands of the rebellion is hardly grounds to forego this history. The Tarvosians wish to exile friends of Empress Rene? Let them know their place."

"Queen Hauteclere!" A scout reports, horribly battered and looking close to death by bael venom, "Xouide has... Advanced South with its escorts. I did... Everything I could to be certain I wasn't followed from..." The loyal rogue collapses into his queen's arms as she instinctively reaches for a staff she no longer has. "I believe in you, milady... You and your son can save Teege."

The rogue is laid to rest, dying of wounds only the Staff of Katri might have allowed one to survive. It leaves Dyrus with an overwhelming concern for the allies he counts among his friends and family. His grandfather is staying far from the fight, but beyond that... He's even worried for Rene's allies. He's on familiar if not friendly terms with many of them, and if they're going to win, some of them are going to die.

Following "enigmatic" Eichel's lead, Samson and his companions await just South of the mountainous pass Xouide walks through. His speech is less sweeping than Rene's, for a smaller crowd whose only desire is to protect against the unstoppable. On this, he would later muse about the similarity of their positions. Their philosophies and goals are completely opposite, yet here they were, doing more or less similar things... He'll sleep well when this is all over.

You sit and wait in horrible anticipation, writing down as much as you can. You've told yourself time and time again that you would survive, but knowing that the most fearsome beast Teege has ever faced is a mere hours away...

God, you wanna be safe just in case you get hit hard by reality.

"I've finished editing Raleigh's works on King Augustus," you tell your father, handing everything you've written to him as he mounts a horse, "I don't want any of my works or his damaged in the fight, so... If you're shoving off, keep it close to your heart."

Lazare nods, preparing to ride off West of the battlefield to relative safety. "I will, son."

"Keep safe, alright? Not just because of what you're carrying, but because it would really be awful if you died after all we did to save you."

"I swear on my life," your dad says, chuckling a bit at his wordplay, before giving you an uncharacteristically stern look.

"...dad?" You ask, a bit caught off-guard.

"This is not goodbye. This isn't anything remotely comparable to a farewell. We'll both be back soon."
