Hey guys, I want to buy a Ferrari 348. I like the look of the car and I want to be able to tell people I drive a Ferrari. Its a shitty reason I know, but its what I would like to do.

I would like to find a used/abused 348 and "restore" it if possible. I did this to a 987 Boxster and it went well. I understand that the 348 is an entirely different animal though, so using ferrari parts would be expensive (Porsche parts can be found online and in junkyards, especially boxsters). I am wondering
1) can I LS swap a 348 or another ferrari?
2) would doing so significantly reduce maintenance costs?
3) what can I do to the 348 to make it more reliable?
4)where can I find a Ferrari that has been in an accident?
5) any realistic plans you can come up with and rough cost/time estimates

My intent is to buy a one, work on it myself, and just keep it running without the maintenance costs that Ferrari's require. I am never going to resell it so I don't mind hurting the resell value of a car that has been in an accident. I need to be able to drive it once a week, keep it in a garage, and have people look at the outside of it and go "ohhhh, anon drives a FERRARI"

Please don't tell me to get a miata. I already have one. Please don't tell me to get a 911, I am doing this to one-up the 911 guys. I have a DD and fun cars already, this car will literally be a status symbol that sits in my garage and drives once a week.

Im in the initial research phase now /o/, im just seeing if its going to be too expensive to justify

348 is timing belt + interference, needs an engine out service every 3 years. You won't be able to do it yourself. Yes going to an American V8 will make it easier to deal with but there's 0 chance you are going to be able to do the swap if you're asking here. You can find wrecked Ferraris on Copart. Major service on a 348 is ~$8k, plus whatever else you need to keep it going I would estimate $10-15k every 3 years to keep it in good shape.

So you don't give a shit about resale value, right?

You should keep an eye out for one with a dirty title. The place down the street from me had 2 512's a few months ago. One was $75k and one was $150k. They were almost identical years, miles, condition. The one for $75k had been stolen a couple years ago and written off, so it had a rebuilt title.

And definitely search outside your local area for a good deal. Don't be afraid to drive a few hours for a good deal.

But as far as cost of ownership, I have no fucking clue. Good luck.

>>14154279

I was curious about this too, but I'd rather find a 308 for the same exact affect.

All of them are expensive for what you end up getting: a go kart with a prancing horse logo.

https://autofrei.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/ways-to-lose-money-ferrari-348tb/

Good luck finding a rusted snowflake for cheap, though. I want a high revving LS1 dumped into one of these, and 180 degree headers.

Honestly, go for a fiero with a bodykit and drop that FWD 5.3 liter in the bay.

Their sales always seem to be below that of the Germans, Lexus and Cadillac.
Their motorsport efforts are lackluster, their cars always also-rans?

What do they need to do to get their image back? What do they need to do to crawl out of the shadows of the other sports car brands?

I'm not sure that's a fair assessment. Jaguar has seen six successive years of global sales growth, their cars tend to receive excellent reviews, and they haven't seriously been involved in motorsport for some time; this Formula E thing they're going for might be the start of some sort of comeback, or it might not. We shall see.

Regardless, they're doing just fine.

Torque wrench
>>
>>14140837
impact driver and hammer
>>
>figure out the main bolt sizes on your car
>for me this is basically 10-15mm
>buy only those sockets for now
>get more as you need them
>get a good ratchet to match the sockets, at least Craftsman tier
>breaker bar of the same
>torque wrench of the same
>basic set of screw drivers
>few funnels
>some vice grips
>a vice grip "style" oil filter wrench, all others are trash
>basic set of wrenches for when you can't fit a socket
>spark plug sockets and extensions
>jack
>GOOD jackstands, minimum 1000 pounds higher rated than your car, preferably at least a ton. This is not something to fuck with.
>internet
>shop manual
That should let you do 99% of any regular maintenance.

Post your favorite sports sedans.

I have an S2000 that I love, but I'm going to be moving up north here in the near future and between my car probably having some issues in a snowy/cold environment and me possibly settling down with someone in the next handful of years it may be time for me to start brainstorming new, slightly more practical toys.

AWD would probably be better for snow and shit, but so far the only sedan I have that satisfies that is the Evo.

Other than that I really like the Infiniti G35/G37 and Lexus IS/GS300. I know BMW has some good options as well but I'm not as familiar with them as a platform and I've heard they can be an absolute nightmare to work on, and also insanely expensive.

Pic is Infiniti G35.

Amazing cars, very fun to drive. Very expensive to repair

Infiniti G37.

These look interesting but I haven't seen them used too often as a platform yet.

Okay /o/ tell me your thoughts on the 2014 Chrysler 300c AWD w/ the 5.7 Hemi
Backstory follows
>offered job/partnership at consulting company out of state
>was driving 03 745li w/ 130k miles
>not going to drive this cross country as a consultant
>when I was about 17 I liked this car, was searching for something similar after Craigslisting 7 for 5k cash
> 27k for 11k miles, was a rental that was repo'd after being stolen
>do you think purchasing this car in full was a good decision?
I left the job after 2 and a half months. Unvested percentage and bad contract paired with shitty coworkers, not my thing.
>I'm still stuck with a brand new car that was purchased with the intent of traveling around the states for my previous job

I've had only 1 issue with the vehicle which I'm not sure is actually an issue. The "Hemi tick" which concerns me at times. While I owned the 7 I had many problems with it and many costly repairs, I am now hyper paranoid with all vehicles and every little sound gets my attention

I'm ready for these holidays to be over. They fuck with my work schedule so much since I get the holiday off but normally have to make it up on Saturday.

I probably could've gotten today off. But if you don't work the days before and after the holiday, you don't get paid for it. I'm taking off Monday anyway. And called off last Monday. Also the last like 5 holidays including thanksgiving, I got that Saturday off.

Hello /o/

Yesterday I asked you guys for a opinion on what car should I buy, but things changed.
Now I'm able to afford a 9,500€ (10,365$) car.
Could you guys tell me some cars to buy?

Here's my minimum requisitions of the car.. If you could say cars with all of those it would be great, thanks:

- 4/5 Seats
- Made in 2006+
- Diesel (I do long travels, and as I live in Portugal and gas is expensive it's better for me)
- Preferably something that doesn't look girly.. it doesn't have to be BMW's and all of that like most guys like, but something that looks really nice to look at.

Thanks /o/

Any Canadians here on /o/?
I'm moving to Halifax later next year.
How is the process for acquiring a driver's license and the test like? I have a provisional license from my home country right now.

Can any of you give some insight into car insurance and what's that like?
Possible to bring my car with me if I wanted to?

I owned a DBAR35 for 15 months.
Here's what I've gone through owning it.
>rear glass area rattles over harsh bumps
>poor rear visibility (the backup camera is a godsend)
>front suspension tended to shake over rough ground bumps (not violently but it's noticeable)
>front brake discs cracked after 7 months (tiny fractures)

Other things that you need to know
>AV unit/MFD might die (it's a rare thing but it has happened)
>clutch baskets
>front diff casing on early cars
>bellhousing can split (not sure if that got fixed)

I love the car though, will own another. go drive one for yourself.

Fiat

Not sure if anybody would be able to help me out with an issue i'm having.

I recently got a 1985 rx7 12a out of desperation for a daily driver, and now it won't start. Sometimes it turns over, then dies after a few seconds. Sometimes if i'm lucky it turns over and idles fine, and then as soon as I touch the gas pedal it dies on me. I'm not sure what's going on here, it was fine for a few days.

I'm gonna take a leap and say apex seals, because that's what always dies with rx7's.

You are granted a sponsorship deal. You will be getting a large sum of money to turn your car into a billboard for a product or service that you use and like.
