Post your favorite sports sedans.
I have an S2000 that I love, but I'm going to be moving up north here in the near future and between my car probably having some issues in a snowy/cold environment and me possibly settling down with someone in the next handful of years it may be time for me to start brainstorming new, slightly more practical toys.
AWD would probably be better for snow and shit, but so far the only sedan I have that satisfies that is the Evo.
Other than that I really like the Infiniti G35/G37 and Lexus IS/GS300. I know BMW has some good options as well but I'm not as familiar with them as a platform and I've heard they can be an absolute nightmare to work on, and also insanely expensive.
Pic is Infiniti G35.

M3 / M5
Amazing cars, very fun to drive. Very expensive to repair
Infiniti G37.
These look interesting but I haven't seen them used too often as a platform yet.
>>14140695
Yeah, that's part of what worries me. BMW's just seem to be overcomplicated and German engineering is a bit... Wonky.
Lexus IS300
Lexus GS300.
These are about all the ideas I currently have. WRX doesn't really interest me, Evo is an obvious choice but I'm still exploring other options.
It will also depend on exactly where I live and how bad the snow/weather is, and if I decide to have a separate DD or not (as far as RWD vs. AWD).
Really liking the Infiniti and Lexus base though. Looks pretty clean. I'm going to start reading some build threads and forums and see what people do with them.
BMW 130i... I think. Don't understand their confusing ass naming structure (I'm sure there's a method to the madness somewhere(?) I just don't get it yet).
Also, I'm not even sure if these are sold in the US actually. They may be EU only.
I'm still looking into M3/M5 trims and trying to figure out what's going on with all of that.
Everytime some one gets rid of their s2k they just miss it down the road, get a garage for it
my favorite is sitting right outside

I've noticed that as well. I'm just trying to pan out my options because I know things are going to change a lot for me within the next year or two.
The S2K has also been a bit of a money/time pit for me as well this year as my turbo build on it ran into some problems. Everything seems stable and all issues are ironed out now but if problems keep creeping up I'll need to just get rid of it for something more reliable. The lesson I learned with all of that is to just buy a nice kit, not to stupidly try to piece together parts, much less used components.

Very nice, I've seen some pretty cool Saab's here and there.
>>14140815
It goes by series: numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and four by letter X, Z, M, I. The next numbers are your engine size. So a 328 would be a 3 SERIES with 2.8 liter engine.
Now this has changed in recent years and it's more akin to power levels. So a 325 compared to a 335 would be a 3 SERIES and the 335 would be more powerful.

Note this is how nissan also does some cars. 300zx is a 3 liter car. 350z a 3.5 etc etc.

> Don't understand their confusing ass naming structure
What is so hard about it?
>First number is series
>Second and third number are powerlevel
> i for gas; d for diesel; x additional for awd
CTS-V want one as my luxury DD some day.

>The next numbers are your engine size.

It was always powerlevel. ALWAYS. A e30 316i didn't have an 1,6L engine. That shit was never true.
>>14140900
Ah, thanks that clears things up a bit.
Yeah, I know that like the G35 has a 3.5L straight 6 engine, G37 with a 3.7, and other things like that but I was having issues finding correlation between all the different BMW's and their series.
This helps a bit, thank you.

Cool, now I understand BMW's.
Sage because double-posting.
>>14140929
Are you literally retarded?
>>14140985
no u
GUISE IT WAS ALWAYS DISPLACEMENT
wow the 523i totally had a 2.5L engine

Lexus and Infiniti are fine cars. My dad has a G37 sedan and its a pretty nice car, manual too. Only issues I've seen with Infinitis are headgasket leaks. And I've never been in a lexus but I've heard they're breddy gud. Beware of insurance prices though if that's an issue, they're still "luxury" cars.
>>14141110
Yeah, insurance is going to be an issue with pretty much any of those I go with.
I'm definitely leaning more towards the Lexus/Infiniti than the BMW.
BMW 328xi/335xi
Mazdaspeed6
Volvo S60r
Infiniti g35x/g37x
Cadillac CTS4 DI
Subaru WRX/STi
Mitsubishi Evolution
Acura TL SHAWD
Audi s4
Some notable awd sedans in the 10-20K price range for you to look at. I've owned all but the evo and I'd say go for a BMW or Mazda depending on your price range. The problems with the 335 have been ironed out for years, and there isn't much difficulty working in there other than the battery cables running over cylinder 5. Also the cts4 is extra low on the sporty, but worth a seat with the comfy
Others I don't know dick about off the top of my head, and a hatch...
Lexus 250/350 awd
Dodge charger hemi awd
VW golf R
Saab 9-3
>>14141249
Great list, thank you!
I had no idea some of these cars were available in AWD configurations.
Are you looking exclusively for awd?
>>14141311
I'm debating between RWD and AWD. I know I'm moving north, but not entirely sure on the location yet so snow/ice will mostly be what affects my decision.
Seattle, Chicago, or Denver are most likely.
>>14141345
I think whether you should get AWD or RWD depends on the car. I was debating this and I wanted to get a RWD IS350, but it turns out they stopped selling them in Canada cause nobody buys it (I've only seen 2 RWD 2014+ ISes here). I test drove a used RWD and a new AWD and found that they feel extremely similar in driving dynamics and acceleration. In the case of this car, the RWD and AWD are both very good, and I ended up getting the AWD one new. I'd suspect that the 335i AWD and RWD are very similar as well.
>>14141411
I'd assume the main differences are just in the weight from the added drivetrain components, and probably minor handling differences that would really only be noticed under hard driving.
I'm most strongly considering either the IS/GS G35/G37 for RWD, or the IS/GS for AWD.
>>14141411
The big difference is the awd cars not getting the sports suspension, the weight is barely noticeable, but the confidence of the great awd system coupled with the monstrous lowdown torque I'd say makes it a godly DD.
OP, if you're moving to Seattle, you absolutely do not need awd. It snows in all of never, if you aren't living literally in the mountains. Snow chains are more than adequate to get to your favorite snowboarding/ski spots, too.
Rain however, you will see.
what's the best GT-type sedan under 30K
>>14141496
Thanks for the info. I've been to Chicago a few times as well, but all during Summer. I don't know how the winters are up there, or how the roads are maintained. Seattle actually didn't seem bad when I was there last January.
Denver I know snows like fuck.
Just a lot to consider, I'm also not entirely sure yet if I'll be keeping or selling the S2K here in the next year or so which will also sway my decision.
This is all somewhat premature for me to be considering but I wanted to start spitballing some ideas now so I can start reading some forums and build threads and learn about the different models that interest me.
>>14141523
You could easily DD an s2000 year round here in Seattle. Just be ready for damp roads. The rain isn't heavy, but it is persistent.
>>14141539
Yeah that's what I've heard. Doesn't really have downpours often, but a constant mist/drizzle.
Really appreciating the info here as I'm still also debating on which of those three locations to move to. I just recently started sending out job applications and am starting to get some responses.
Instead of buying a used unreliable car, buy yourself a jetta gli, civic si, or a legacy gt. It will last you longer and you don't have to worry about beating on it. If you are a man of money, buy yourself an Audi no question.
>>14140711
Audi/VW manages to make some of the most reliable cars on the market. They also specialize In sporty cars.

e46 m3 and e39 m5 are worth the headaches, trust me, almost nothing else comes close to them for sport sedan yummy
