It gets pretty fucking bad man. I would never park my car outside during the winter. I don't think most people realize how much it fucks up your car. I am not even talking about the exterior. Oil viscosity changes with temperature and becomes less effective the colder it is. This is why you can't roll a motorcycle in first gear even with the clutch pulled in when it's super cold. The oil is just too viscous and the clutch plates stick. You can mitigate it a little bit by using synthetic oil but you are shit out of luck if you use regular petroleum oil. I don't know how serious of an issue this actually is but rest assured there is a period of time until your car is fully warmed that the engine is not lubricated to its full potential.
This is also excluding the million other issues like the cold fucking up all rubber (tires, hoses, etc...) and so on.
It isn't good for the longevity of the car.
So I do car work in my garage under jack stands like I should, but there was an incident recently where my rear windshield exploded unexpectedly a day after I had the car up on jack stands. I came to the conclusion that the course height adjustment of ordinary jack stands and the drainage slope built into the garage floor put the unibody of the car under an excessive torsion moment that transmitted to the windshield. Why the windshield blew up after the work was done is anybody's guess.
Has anyone else seen this happen? What else could have caused the glass to shatter? I'm looking for jack stands that use a threaded rod instead of a toothed mechanism for fine adjustability but they seem uncommon for some reason.
>>16056839
Just put your car on scissor jacks. Put jack stands underneath once it's up and lower them till the car sits on them. Leave the jacks under for maximum support.
>>16056839
Never seen or heard of such a thing. Now I have heard of T-Tops breaking or popping out if left in the roof when lifted, but not a windshield. Cars built nowadays have much stiffer frames than the older cars, especially the convertibles.
>>16056839
you probably had the stands in shitty areas.
ive never seen threaded jack stands in my life.
>a simple turbo setup wouldn't add more than 125lbs and would easily increase power by 200bhp, if not more
Considering the fact that the Viper ACR lap times are competitive with the current 'Hypercar Trio' despite the Viper having a huge power deficit, it would shit all over everything if it had turbocharging.
Why doesn't Snek have forced induction?
Because it doesn't exist anymore
ACR is competitive because it can effectively use the power it has.
So, /o/, I was out looking at used cars not long ago, and I saw a manual v8 1995 BMW going for 2000$ with 130,000, and the temptation to buy it struck. Are old BMW's decent and is this a price that's too good to be true?
>>16056670
>manual v8
Is it a 740i? Why did you post that shitty 3-series?
Oh, and stay away from those V8s. Trust me. Just get the 6cyl.

I know little about cars, and what I've seen of the car is externally with no markings other than a dealer plate. It's not exactly like the picture, body-wise, so I don't think so.

Im about to be a newgrad from nursing school making roughly 51k a year in Knoxville, TN. Currently I have an old straight 6 jeep and I am wanting to get a new car/truck? What should I get?

Any luxury sedan owners here? It doesn't have to be new or in great shape to love a luxury sedan.
What luxury sedan do you drive?
Do you often give other people rides?
Post pics
I don't know if this is the place to post but I have a luxury sports car and the drivers seat leather has a tear and the bumper has a crack that scratches against the parking stopper if I get too close (so I try not to) but what can I use to stick back both pieces?

Take it to a reputable shop and literally pay to have someone make it look good. You will fuck it up.
Saving for an Ls400
Considered stuff like Park Avenue Ultras or Olds Auroras but Ls400 is in it's own universe for amount of car/money
Alright so Skyline GT-R 85k miles
or
FC RX-7 55k miles that is half the price of gtr
Does the rx7 look like pic?

Both are jdm imported.
For Sellers:
>Always price it $500-1000 over what you actually hope to get
>Always be ready to negotiate
>Keep your stock parts and sell your aftermarket ones separately because they don't add value to a car
>"Normal wear" is never normal
>If your ad contains "________ is an 'easy fix'" then fix it yourself before posting it for sale if it's so easy
>If your car does not start, run, or drive under its own power, it's worth $500 no matter what year, make, model, etc it is
>Never negotiate price over text or on the phone
>ALWAYS negotiate price in person
For Buyers:
>Assume it's shit until you've seen it in person
>Never negotiate price or make offers on a car you haven't seen and driven
>Pay as much or more attention to the SELLER as you do to the car
>Whatever your instinct is for your first offer, go with it even if it's laughable
>Always push to get $100 more off than the price you're about to settle on
>If a seller doesn't follow any of the above rules, walk away unless the car/deal is truly phenomenal (it's not)
>Save all your questions for when you see the car in person
>Remember the seller's name and greet them by it when you meet for the first time
add to it /o/

>find one in sacramento 800 miles away
>9.5 interior/exterior, just had the timing chain shit all replaced
>nearest audi dealer remembered the car and said yeah its in amazing shape
>drive down there from seattle
>inside is fucking trashed, shits worn off everywhere and huge scratches all over, cant read any of the buttons
>outside has scratches and dings and touch up spots galore
>get mad at him since I just spent $500 in gas to drive there and wasted my weekend
So the point of my post is: Never ever deal with Russians on craigslist. Don't buy cars from them, don't sell to them. Fuck russians. I told him that that car was a 9.5 out of 100.

[desire to pop intensifies]
I'm looking for a comfy highway/city commuter and i personally like the look of the volvo. there's one nearby with 75,000 miles for $10,000USD. Its the 6speed base model though, but their wasn't much upgraded on the 2008 year so i'm okay with it. its in perfect condition with a fat stack of dealer maintenance which is why i want to look at it, i've read its ride quality is a bit stiff which i don't mind and the turning radius is horrible, which isn't something that effects me. anyone have first-hand experience with this car? i think i remember someone here owning one? halp plz. if i can get it for $8000 i think its a good car, but $10,000 seems steep
Plz halp, anyone own one?
>>16056277
I own one, OP
What model are you looking at?
the 2.0 ford duratec 4 banger engine one?
The 2.4 Volvo 5cyl engine
Or the 2.5T Volvo 5cyl engine one? (The one I own and can give more information about)
>Ride quality is a bit stiff
Stiff? far from it, from the P1 platform based hatches that Volvo, Ford and mazda made cars out of it, this is the least sporty and more comfortable of all of them, its not soft like a boomer mobile, but expect it to be more focused on being comfy than being anything else, same goes for the seats, they are really comfy, and the back seats are way more comfy than anything I have ever got into so far
>Horrible turning radius
it aint THAT bad, I owned a Smart fortwo before this, and that tiny car has the tightest turning radius of all cars I have driven, and yet the C30's one didnt bother me that much, it does make the car feel larger than it is when parking, but thats about it
Cant comment on price, my country has huge inflated car prices for some stupid reason, what I paid for mine is considered decent where I live, but to Americans, its probably a lot more than ny one would pay for a C30
Any other questions?
>>16057015
I'm looking at the 5 cylinder turbo 6speed. How is the ride quality on the highway? I do a mix of driving but mostly highway. I've heard about the breather hose on the engine being an issue, is that an issue? I've also heard about some kind of slave cylinder in the tranny failing causing to completly fix the transmission, any truth to that? Is their any obvious signs of neglect or abuse i should look for?
>Recently got a newish car
>Probably not qualified to own a newish car
>2015 Ford Focus
>Coolant is low
>Nearest Ford dealer is 30 minutes away and closed
>Need to be on the road before they would open tomorrow
>Nobody sells Motorcraft shit anywhere
Is this Dexcool? Because half of the internet says yes, and the other half says fuck off. I hear you can't mix different coolants because they become some sort of gelblob, and I'd like to not fuck up my vehicle. Would adding (distilled?) water be an acceptable compromise until I am able to stop at the Ford dealer?
>>16056218

coolant is content just pour some of the cheapest stuff you can buy at wally world in there. Just dont mix colors. green with green and orange with orange.

Yeah, I kinda thought brand wouldn't matter, but then I used Google and it turns out there are a lot of people fearmongering on Ford/car forums in general. It's weird. I wonder if they're Ford employees or something.
