So, /o/, I was out looking at used cars not long ago, and I saw a manual v8 1995 BMW going for 2000$ with 130,000, and the temptation to buy it struck. Are old BMW's decent and is this a price that's too good to be true?
>>
>>16056670
>manual v8
Is it a 740i? Why did you post that shitty 3-series?

Oh, and stay away from those V8s. Trust me. Just get the 6cyl.
>>
>>16056679
>Why did you post that shitty 3-series?
thats an m3 you dumbass
>>
>>16056679
I know little about cars, and what I've seen of the car is externally with no markings other than a dealer plate. It's not exactly like the picture, body-wise, so I don't think so.
>>
Just get a fucking civic.
>>
>>16056740
there aren't any civics anywhere under 5000$ around.
>>
>>16056679
What's the issues with v8's? Keep in mind this wouldn't be my only car, I want it to through a manual in and some drift tires on.
>>
>>16056685
Yeah I'm retarded. I'm half asleep and from that angle I thought it was a 316i.

>>16056703
The car you posted is a 3-series, which were almost all inline 6cyl engines except for shitty 4cyl 316i mentioned earlier. If you get a 325i or 328i in the same body style, they actually have a little pep (especially with the 5spd manual).

The engines are fairly reliable but water pumps and some gaskets like to blow. Since it's a BMW, parts and labor tend to be more expensive than a Toyota or Chevy when something breaks so be careful buying a 20+ year old BMW if you want an economical car. Especially the V8 models like the 740i (the bigger sedan). There is so much more that could possibly go wrong with that car compared to a 6cyl 3-series or even 5-series. The $2000 may seem like a great deal now but you will regret it (assuming it is a 7-series since you said it was a V8)

You went to far with that b8. I'm done tryin to help.
>>
>>16056745
then get a corolla.

you dont know anything about cars buying a bmw is a major mistake. no one will think you are rich, so stop.

>>16056786
>from that angle
oh you mean the angle where you can clearly see every single M3 detail and the DS2 wheels.
>>
>>16056786
hmm, fair enough. how notice able is the difference between v8 and v6. haven't driven anything other than v8 since my first car, which was v4
>>
>>16056670

Get an old E36.

Either way if you don't know how to fix shit by yourself and rely on the garage: you're gonna be up shit creek financial wise.
>>
>>16056792
i'm sorry, i don't know much about cars.
>>16056804
it justs looks rad mostly.
>>
>>16056811
I think you should stick with the V6 BMW

>>16056804
Yeah, that one. The 316i with the M3 replica bumper in the thumbnail on an iPhone.
>>
>>16056816
ok, thanks.
>>
>>16056832
But make sure it has a V6!

You don't want to deal with the problems that come with a V8 E36.
>>
Get an E36, OP
>>
>>16056771
Wat

Just get an old mustang with a manual if you're gonna drift something.
>>
>>16056841
>e36
>v anything

Thanks for letting me know you're retarded, I can filter you now.

I've got a 92 e30 325i cabriolet with one of the original hardtops from the factory. Bought it at 120k and I just hit 175k last week.

Unless you know your shit and do a lot of research and some of your own mechanical work, you might get shit on if you go for an older bmw. Some will run forever with simple maintenance, a lot a touchy and need steady care and replacement parts until a certain threshold. Water pumps and head gaskets tend to go first on these.

That being said, they're fun as hell to drive and you'll love it. Keep the fluids changed, replace small parts as they need them, upgrade others when you can.

They're trash. All of them are used and abused while and they're dangerous. A single crash will kill you.

You must be really specific about the cars you're talking about. A 3 series is not the same as a 5 series, which in turn is not the same as a 7 series.

These cars have shit the bed when it comes to depreciation. An E39 540i that was a shitload of money in 2001 is now worth a pittance.

There are some performance bargains to be had, but god help you if you take it to a BMW dealer to be serviced.

Pic related, my E30 323i

I cant tell you much about buying old cars, however, I own a 1991 325i e30 convertible. It has minor rust spots coming from the corners of the bumpers and a bad interior. I can tell you from experience that buying old beemers will be cost heavy for parts and restoration.

Right now i need a new interior and its literaly nowhere to be found. Dont know if i can get a new int. fabricated or installed for another car.

>>16059131
>you're
Back to school kiddo
>>
>>16056670
That's an E34 5 series. I know because I have one.

They need a shitload of work, a lot of the parts are hard to find/expensive, most of the plastics are super brittle, I *guarantee* that that car already has problems with the power steering system, if it's the 530 then you're only getting ~200 whp in a car that weighs 3400 lbs, the E34 interior is absolutely nothing to write home about, all in all if you want a $2k drift platform get a 240sx like a normal person.
