For Sellers:
>Always price it $500-1000 over what you actually hope to get
>Always be ready to negotiate
>Keep your stock parts and sell your aftermarket ones separately because they don't add value to a car
>"Normal wear" is never normal
>If your ad contains "________ is an 'easy fix'" then fix it yourself before posting it for sale if it's so easy
>If your car does not start, run, or drive under its own power, it's worth $500 no matter what year, make, model, etc it is
>Never negotiate price over text or on the phone
>ALWAYS negotiate price in person
For Buyers:
>Assume it's shit until you've seen it in person
>Never negotiate price or make offers on a car you haven't seen and driven
>Pay as much or more attention to the SELLER as you do to the car
>Whatever your instinct is for your first offer, go with it even if it's laughable
>Always push to get $100 more off than the price you're about to settle on
>If a seller doesn't follow any of the above rules, walk away unless the car/deal is truly phenomenal (it's not)
>Save all your questions for when you see the car in person
>Remember the seller's name and greet them by it when you meet for the first time
add to it /o/

No.
>be me
>shopping for S4s
>find one in sacramento 800 miles away
>9.5 interior/exterior, just had the timing chain shit all replaced
>nearest audi dealer remembered the car and said yeah its in amazing shape
>drive down there from seattle
>inside is fucking trashed, shits worn off everywhere and huge scratches all over, cant read any of the buttons
>outside has scratches and dings and touch up spots galore
>get mad at him since I just spent $500 in gas to drive there and wasted my weekend
So the point of my post is: Never ever deal with Russians on craigslist. Don't buy cars from them, don't sell to them. Fuck russians. I told him that that car was a 9.5 out of 100.
don't buy a car from someone who doesn't know its maintenance history or even know when the last oil change was.
If they can't instantly answer questions about the car then walk away.

>be me
>shopping for a 4cyl 5mt TJ Jeep bc I'm kooky like that
>find a seemingly nice one on Craigslist
>$5k, can probably talk him down
>see it in person, eh it's "worth" $4000 with the jeep tax, a few dents and shit, 160k miles
>driving it, seller says
"We've had it for over a decade and bought it with 50k miles on it..
..we've never had to do a single thing to it, just change the oil!"
Like it's a fucking good thing
>Open hood
>worn to shit belts, black goop all over everything, swollen hoses
>check oil
>black as night with metallic glitter
>eek.jpg
for buyers:
>the ac needs a lot more than just a recharge

>If your car does not start, run, or drive under its own power, it's worth $500 no matter what year, make, model, etc it is
This is COMPLETELY wrong. MANY cars are worth a lot simply for parts.
>>16056924
When he's looking at $2000 cars in the first place, then it's right.
>if the post says "no low ballers" or "I know what I have" just walk away
But what if its an easy fix but i dont want to touch the damn thing?
>>16056972
Then be lazy and get $500 less for an "easy fix."
>>16056704
500$ in gas for 800 miles? What were you driving a tank?
>>16056924
This. A clean, complete rolling RX7 FD chassis is worth like 3k
>>16056426
>if your car does not start, run, or drive under its own power, it's worth $500 no matter what year, make, model, etc it is
That is obviously wrong, but the rest is good.
>>16057645
It's definitely a grey area. But there are obviously exceptions.
>>16057621
I know next to nothing about the RX7 but I saw this recently, is it a good deal?
>>16056888
Lol this happened to me yesterday
>Interested in 2012 Volvo s60
>Read online about excessive oil burning but not all cards affected
>Meet up with owner
>Huge stack of maintenance records
>Pop hood, check dipstick
>Dry as the desert, not even a drop on the dipstick
>Don't test drive car, just walk away
Wew lad, their was NO OIL IN THE DIPSTICK. Scared me the fuck away of these that car
