It gets pretty fucking bad man. I would never park my car outside during the winter. I don't think most people realize how much it fucks up your car. I am not even talking about the exterior. Oil viscosity changes with temperature and becomes less effective the colder it is. This is why you can't roll a motorcycle in first gear even with the clutch pulled in when it's super cold. The oil is just too viscous and the clutch plates stick. You can mitigate it a little bit by using synthetic oil but you are shit out of luck if you use regular petroleum oil. I don't know how serious of an issue this actually is but rest assured there is a period of time until your car is fully warmed that the engine is not lubricated to its full potential.

This is also excluding the million other issues like the cold fucking up all rubber (tires, hoses, etc...) and so on.

It isn't good for the longevity of the car.

Depends on where you live.
Around here, they salt the living SHIT out of the streets. Car is pretty much encrusted in salt after a few days. Massive rinsing needed after Winter.

Also, who are you quoting?

>a so salty, so so salty

>>16056931
A few years back we had an ice storm so bad here in Toronto it literally encased my car in a solid tomb of ice. I'll try to find the picture

cold and cars don't mix well. That's why 99% of your antique cars are cars that were originally sold in the south, or kept in dry garages for decades.

With that said, salt kills your car eventually. An icy road kills it much faster.

Is rustproofing a meme or is it actually a good idea?
>>
>2004 already starting to show body rust
This will be its last winter.
>>
>>16057214
Undercoating..... Totally worth it.
>>
>>16057214
also asking this question

i just bought a miata which is pretty much rust free and I live in New England.

Thinking about purchasing a beater for $1500 bucks
>>
>>16057232
miata dude here

is it really?
>>
>>16057237
A miata isn't the greatest winter car, although skinny tires and being so light you would fare pretty well. Undercoating though, yes do it!
>>
>>16057232
What about going beyond undercoating and getting the whole car done? Is that overkill?
>>
>>16057242
Yeah find yourself someone with a lift you can borrow or rent and apply two coats. One light first coat to get all the nooks then two hours later you will come back and reapply a heavy coat. It's very simple.

Glorious Texas master race, I can run 10w40 in winter no problems. It ices over one day out of the entire year, and it's just a light coat on my windshield and roof that wipes right off.
>>
>>16057249
The whole car? Like a full body vinyl wrap? Maybe I don't follow....

Anyway undercoat inside the wheel wells as well and most body rust should be negated by a wash after the snow and ice are done, provided your clear coat is in good condition.
>>
>>16057277
No a whole body treatment of an oil based rust inhibitor

You're thinking of that chunky black shit they spray on the undercarriage

logic

>colorado master race
>get decent amount of snow, can slide around if you want to
>hardly icy, usually nice and powdery
>will be plowed/melted by the next day
>only exposed to a few days of mag chloride per year which is less corrosive than traditional salt in dry environments. Never see rusty cars out here.
>have comfy snow tires for maximum control and ability to go skiing any day I want

pretty comfy season and I got new wheels for my blizzaks this year so I'm hype to put them on this weekend
>>
>>16057301

Lucky for me i live as far inland as you can get without being waist deep in marsh.

you all are so salty, I get to cruise around with the windows down during winter and get to experience some of the cleanest air in the world while doing so. The flip side is that we have 90-105 degree weather the other 300 days and i dont have A/C, but ive dealt with it so far, i can continue to do so. It just makes winter all the more enjoyable

Fuck yes brother. I'm never going back to a shit tier rust state. Every time I work on a car here my dick explodes buckets of cum because of how clean they are. Faggots from here have no clue how easy they have it never having to have dealt with rust.
>>
>>16056964

I have never had this problem with any of my bikes and I would ride no matter how cold it is so long as the roads were clear.
>>
>>16057381
Dont get me wrong i still have to deal with rust, its not as bad, but with the amount of rain we get rust comes on my car whether i like it or not.
>>
Asshole primus drivers and some other pissant eco boxes driving in the one plowed lane down the highway at 15 to 20 mph ... like e of 30 to 50 cars behind them.

I get in completely unplowed left lane and ramp it up to 35 or 45 and blow glorious snow all over ... try to blow as much snow as possible as I pass Prius or other eco shitbox that's sliding all over with those low rolling resistance eco doughnuts

It's best when there is 12 to 16 inches of unplowed snow in the lane while more is falling.
>>
>>16057287
I get Krown done every other year and the inbetween year I'll just get a can of it and spray suspension, control arm etc.. As I change over to winter tires. Krown is oil base, they spray it everywhere and drill a few holes to get it into the wheel wells, door fenders, etc.

My car is an 08 and has very little surface rust underneath and none elsewhere. Some bolts look new still. I live in the gta where it is salted like crazy.

that seems wise
>>
>>16057494
I live in the gta too. Fuck drilling holes. I'm getting CorrosionFree done because they don't drill holes
>>
>>16057531
You can ask to not drill but go with whichever, I think it's a worthwhile investment to get some sort of spray done. They spray underneath the hood as well.
>>16057505
Yes in the door panels. They plugged them after.
