Hello friendo.

I own an E39 540i. They share the same motor as these E38s.

While it has never left me stranded and everything can be fixed, I would recommend against buying a car even more finnicky than the E39.

You will be paying out the ass for everything you can possibly imagine. You better learn to do everything yourself and go over the car with a fine tooth comb, or prepare your asshole to spend 5-8k a year at the mechanic until everything is replaced.

By the time you have the car up to snuff, you'll be 15-20k deep and someone will T-Bone you and you'll get 3500 bucks from insurance.
>>
>>16057070
That's depressing.

Also, your car's setup looks like 4 overweight people are sitting in it.
>>
>>16057050
about 4
>>16056988
e38 is a whole other animal dude, especially the v12s holy shit

Thanks fampai.
>>
>>16057106
E39 guy here. googlecarfag is right, completely avoid the V12 model.

E38 sports have the best fuckin seats ever, though. I'm looking for a set for my car and they're like 1500$ for a good pair

Instant "Mexican curbstoner" flag. Run, don't walk, away.
>>
>>16057122
got mine for $250 senpai
sit on craigslist for partouts, most people don't realize how valuable the seats are

finding them in grey was hard as fuck, black and tan were all over the place
>>
>>16056957
>this adds text
Would you trust a 15 year old BMW owned by a melanin-enriched fellow?
>>
>>16057130
Can you post a pic of your seats? I too need dove grey 18 way adjustables... I've been watching partouts for like 10 months and only seen a few pairs in black and tan.
>>
>>16057106
It's not a v12 it's a 740.. same as non-m 5 series.

If electronics scare you then yeah I guess walk away.
But, $4k isn't a lot of money in car terms.

>>16057070

LMAO
>>
here's one of the driver seat bottom before i put it in.
pretty gud, some rash on the exterior bolster tho

>>16057144
bringing back a neglected bmw is much more expensive than getting one cared for already. find one with lots of records of repairs and maintenance

Mad jelly. I don't even care what condition mine come in since I'll probably refinish them anyways. I'm fairly OCD about things being "like new" if I'm gonna bother repairing/replacing
>>
>>16057180
"(e38|740|750|740i|750i) (parts|parting|part) (seat|seats)"

punch that into CL without the quotes and refresh every other day or so
>>
>>16057199
You're the man. I'm sure you'll hear back from me on here once I find a pair

If I don't ditch the E39 that is
>>
Get this E38 instead.

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/5843397491.html
>>
>>16057207
oh also remember to search titles only, it'll reduce the noise and hopefully just get you what you want

be prepared to ask the person doing the partouts to give you pics of the seat or ask if it has a thigh extension bit on the front, that's the differentiation from stock e38 seats
>>
>>16057219
way overpriced for it's condition.
>>
>>16057239
Not even man. It's probably the only manual E38 in the states. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Thats 5-6k in custom work alone.
>>
>>16057239
e38 manual swaps are tough, if there's meticulous maintenance records and the owner has done some preventive maintenance like timing chain guides and vanos by now, it's just about worth it......but 201k miles...yikes
>>16057244
not the only one there's several out there, the deciding factor is how well the conversion was done
>>
>>16057258
That feel when timing chain guides were done but not vanos on my car... It's like a polished turd because it won't break on me but it has that dog shit diesel idle.

God dammit if you're gonna get a BMW landbarge, at least get the V12.

Plenty of V8 BMWs you can get with a manual and more power

jesus that paint...the swirls...they burn.
>>
>>16057294
there's a guy on here who has spend 6 grand on his 750i so far
on just the engine
in a year
>>
>>16057343
Buying oem parts and having a mechanic do the labor doesn't count, bud.

This is an enthusiast forum not a normie forum (debatable)
>>
>>16057258
>e38 manual swaps are tough
No they aren't. I've done 2 manual swaps both in BMWs. It's very easy.
Shorten drive shaft and modify mount is all you have to do.

That car is a piece of shit and way over priced.
>>
>>16057375
I mean if you want a half asses build that throws every error on the dash known to man, sure.
the hard part is the coding and electronics and wiring
>>
>>16057363
I have an E39 540i, and do my own for work for what it counts.

750i's are a bitch to maintain, even doing your own work.
>>
I'm looking at a BMW 745Li 2003 with 126k miles, what should I worry about? Should I get it?
>>
>>16056957
RUN AWAY
>pictures not in a nice neighborhood
>no mention of timing chains, tensioners, and cooling system repairs

You want a seller that writes a book on his listing. You should always buy the cleanest example you can find with service records. It's like at least 10k to do the aforementioned repairs and then vanos might need to be done.
