Why is true literature ™ so tiring and not funny?
The Bible is much funnier than any of us realize; but even if we could see the joke, we would be in no position to enjoy it while we are still struggling between heaven and damnation.
I have heard that some Jews have discovered humour in the Old Testament.

sure it's been so long that it's lost in translation, but the bible's a lot richer, even in a literary sense, than we give it credit

Reading Genesis now. Why are all the Hebrews such cucks? When Abraham tells his wife to pretend to be his sister so dudes won't try to kill him so they can fuck his wife. But then after they find out that she's his wife, they're like, dude wtf. then he fucking does that shit again. Then his son does that shit. It's pretty embarrassing.
Looking for some epic fantasy kind of stuff, not necessarily stuff like the standard /sffg/ stuff, but stories like Ivanhoe and Danes inferno. I'm not well read in the epics area, but I've read the above 2, Iliad, odyssey, and paradise lost

Beowulf
Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid
Tennyson's Idylls of the King
Parzival by Wolfram of Eschenbach
Gerusalemme Liberata
Parapharsalia
Orlando Furioso
Faust II
Epic of Gilgamesh and maybe Cantar de Mio Cid.
books to help me deal /w being black
any good black authors, not necessarily books about race
ralph ellison - invisible man
everything by james baldwin
nobody ever reached Cam's level so you might as well just stop there.
>>8649171
Ugh, why do white people hold up someone as black as Pushkin as being the best black lit has to offer? It's just co-opting blackness for you own; a literary colonization
Who was the better philosopher and why was it Nietzsche?
>>8649145
It was Nietzsche, but I still like Kant desu.
>Tfw you will never be invited to one of his dinner parties
>>8649145

Reason i'm posting here is because its philosophy/lit related.
What makes life worth living?

Just heard of Jordan Peterson. After watching some of his videos I have to agree, the voice of reason who stands for freedom of speech and expression. What does /lit/ think of him?
my genuine feeling is that he is extremely intelligent, but he uses his intelligence to strongly support and self-justify a status quo that exists in opposition to my continued existence on this earth
i think he is 'in the right' in this freedom of speech issue, but after listening to many of his lectures, it's apparent that he is overwhelmingly hypocritical in various ways and seems to have avoided integrating any feminist or postmodern philosophy into his 'worldview' in any meaningful way
Just old. I listen to Red Eye Radio, a late night trucking podcast about politics and they have the same opinion as him.
The substance of your argument, what do you believe, then I disagree with your beliefs so what's your argument for them?
It wins every time. He gives the lefties far too much credit, tries to point out where he differs instead of getting the main point which is that he grew up in a different era. Also that they are contradictory, that their speech is weighted more heavily because it's personal injury to not respect their preferences and other nonsense.
When all the kids shouting about limiting free speech are old they'll probably do the same to whatever the kids are doing. They are unhappy people for a living, that's not going to change.
Probably would have helped his case if he weren't overtly biggoted against trans people. All he did, ultimately was say some very inflammatory things that caused two groups of loud unlikable people to get angry and protest and get violent with one another.
You know the drill.
Come at me with your shitty, ideological, pre-reflective questions /lit/.

What does /lit/ think of Brave New World?
>>>/sffg/
>>8648046
Good ideas but the prose is really lacking
Used to be my favorite when I was growing up. Still love it but it just feels very entry level to me now and not a very challenging work. Hate how people compare it to 1984 all the time
What does /lit/ think of C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy? I just got done reading it and I have pretty mixed feelings about it.
>>8648016
I despise C S Lewis. What was this like though? Anything like Narnia?
>>8648021
Not really anything like Narnia. More adult-oriented I guess. Especially the third.

Mines a "song of myself".
If there is a witness to my little life, To my tiny throes and struggles, He sees a fool; And it is not fine for gods to menace fools.
