Honest question
Why do you read anything but poetry?
Why read some boring made up story just to get some good moments, those moments being not even half as heart moving as the greatest poems?
Poetry is pure ecstasy
Any other kind of literature is TV tier compared to it
>reading anything but ancient longform portry in the original language

How do I write humor? Pic related
Read timelessly witty authors like Oscar Wilde. Autistically note all things funny in a database. Find trends to emulate in your own humor.
>>8647928
Step 1be funny
Shock humor is literally the only form of comedy that can make people laugh for real all the way from their bellies. All other forms of "comedy" can at best produce some fake laughs. You don't want to admit that your laugh is fake but it is

If this is your first book, which I assume it is, why did you choose to write one that is so long? What is the reason why it has to be 700 pages?
>>8647901
Second book i write.
I write short stories too, but when im planning a novel i always go for long stories. I have tried to limit myself but there is no use for it.
I dont plan to publish so is not a bother in that regard.
Alright /lit/izens, picked up these two bad boys yesterday.
Which one should I read first?
And furthermore, are they even worth the read? I've heard its mostly boring but I just can't see how Julius Caesar writing accounts of his war stories wouldn't be good.

Really disliking this new /lit/ meme of not knowing how to rotate pictures.
They're mostly used as a tool for teaching latin, but if Roman History really interests you, go for it. I'd read Comentarii de Bello Gallico first, and just read it chronologically. Get ready for really, really dry history

Are there any other series that approach low, or even high fantasy, from a scientific researcher's perspective?
This 4 book series is incredible, it's like if Jane Goodall spent her time traveling the globe researching Dragons, Wyverns, Leviathans, and other beasts instead of apes.
It's also very clinic in the biology without becoming pedantic.
>>8647668
>Goes into fantasy with a scientific perspective
>Uses it to study fantasy biology, not to build a nice axion through which magic could work
Boo hoo.

Actually in the end of the first bookshe discovers a method of preserving the bones, which typically dissolve upon the dragon's death, the they turn out to be lighter and stronger than steel. This becomes a problem later in series when the ersatz-Chinese society steals her research and start inventing proto-helicoptors by killing tons of dragons.

so, is reading one of the greatest accomplishments you can make in your whole life? Like reading for me is one of the ways I can connect to what's beyond my own immediate world. All the shit I see every day, when I read a book it transports me somewhere different, to something that's extraordinary. You can go places in life which aren't extraordinary, but reading a book can transport you into something extraordinary. Or for you is trying to get a job or something what you would call accomplishing and going places in life?
