>Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.

I just love it when some guy interrupts me while I'm minding my own business. That's like my biggest turnon.

They don't.
They suck up their parents money like vampires and live in their echo-chambers.

They're the new neckbeards.

A German one by Wilhelm Heinse. It was written in 1772, but apparently it's not as outdated as I thought.

I know this is all heresy, and coming from a writer no less, but I don’t care. I’m trying to understand why Shakespeare is still being read hundreds of years after his death. What is so profound and incredible in his work? I cannot for the life of me see it.

It’s 16th century schlock, and I’m pretty sure that was the point. Shakespeare’s plays were the equivalent of a big-budget movie, designed to distract and offer some form of entertainment, and nothing more. This is not high-art, and whoever first claimed such is an idiot. And it doesn’t have to be high-art. If people still get some entertainment out of Hamlet, good for them.
>>
>>8650877
lol try harder
>>
>>8650904
If you want an honest answer, it's the psychological realism of some of his characters. Name a 16th century writer that was capable of writing with this much verisimilitude:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q89MLuLSJgk
>>
>>8650904
It's his phrases, many of which are so well-done they've been quoted far too often and become cliches.

Many of the plots that he uses are recycled from elsewhere and strain credulity so much that if you came up with them these days you'd be laughed out of every publisher's office.
>>
>>8651042
Shakespeare's work wasn't about the plots, it was about the characters and language. And that's true of nearly every great writer.
>>
>>8650918
not even joking. i hate the jew and i hate the limey old fuck.

Shakespeare is in the rare group of immortals where someone disliking him is more likely due to their ignorance of why his work is great rather than a legitimate aesthetic opinion

Nigger there's one at the beginning of Decameron. Ironically, it's very, very sexist.

I don't get it. It seems like a response to a straight reading of http://thoughtcatalog.com/charles-warnke/2011/01/dont-date-a-girl-who-reads/ (also /lit/cringe btw). But that'd be autistic, so maybe it is also ironic? But then it doesn't make sense.

Completely this.

I have these two otherwise intelligent buddies I've known since I was 8 and they're spiritual desserts
