Has post-modernism allowed people to alienate themselves from the horrors they experience and contribute to? I feel like modernism was the only period in which humanity actually faced up to the brutality of their experience and whilst it was obviously flawed, some of the flaws were effectively dealt with by post-modernism, it had a pretty good 'food first, morals later' sort of attitude that po-mo has basically turned on its head, ending up chasing their tails infinitely.

Which of these books is most similar to Yuru Yuri?
I have no idea. I can't even think of a stupid joke to cover my perplexity.
What the hell?
I haven't read GR but Cat's Cradle is probably closer. The feet-touching is kinda adorable.
Anyone else read Father Seraphim's critique of Nietzsche in "Nihilism: The Root of the Revolution of the Modern Age"?
He's right on the money: Nietzsche doesn't cure nihilism, he only aggravates it, becoming sublated in its "dialectic".
>>8648572
>"father"
Yes i've read that book. I find it a bit boring, little more than a christian polemic at times.
>>8648572
Considering Nietzsche didn't set out to "cure nihilism", I am not at all surprised that this retarded Christian misunderstood him.
The whole point of Thus Spoke Zarathustra is to encourage those who are capable to create their OWN cure. Nietzsche did not preach, as le Christian 'Father' does, and unlike him he certainly didn't advocate a 'one size fits all' approach.

You can only read so many short stories about doughy white men getting attached to third world prostitutes before they start to blend together.
Mopeds, discotheques, corrugated metal roofs and whores doing up their hair- once you've got that much The Atlas doesn't have anything more for you.
>You had an arse full of farts that night, darling, and I fucked them out of you, big fat fellows, long windy ones, quick little merry cracks and a lot of tiny little naughty farties ending in a long gush from your hole. It is wonderful to fuck a farting woman when every fuck drives one out of her. I think I would know Nora’s fart anywhere. I think I could pick hers out in a roomful of farting women. It is a rather girlish noise not like the wet windy fart which I imagine fat wives have. It is sudden and dry and dirty like what a bold girl would let off in fun in a school dormitory at night. I hope Nora will let off no end of her farts in my face so that I may know their smell also.
I hate this board so fucking much.

I really need help coming up with a thesis for a narrative essay. Any suggestions would be great! I'm terrible at thinking stuff up. Please help!
Pic unrelated
Oxford English Dictionary defines a thesis as a statement or theory that is put forward as a premise to be maintained or proved. In the next 500 words I will prove the premise that OP should do his own highschool homework.
>>8648381
Wait anon, that is clearly a girl in OP's pic. Are you claiming OP is a liar?
I don't know what a narrative essay is OP, but when I write or talk about literature, I find myself always interested in analyzing who or what was the catalyst for the big events happening in the story is.
For example, I wrote a whole essay based on the premise that the fairies in one of Shakespeare's plays was the catalyst for major events that later occurred in the story. I primary claimed that the characters were used to contrast the serious tone of the other characters by causing mischievous like turning someone's head into a donkey head, and that without those characters the story would've fallen flat.
Maybe you could use that as either a part of your thesis or a supporting piece of evidence on character analysis for your thesis. Hope that helps.
Now I tip my fedora and also hope that you vote Trump OP.
You can write about this

That's a reductive phrasing but Tolkien did intend for his mythos to serve as an artificial mythological history of europe.

Is it some kind of wink at the drunken ship by rimbaud?
Why can't I find a story like this anywhere? You guys might know it which is why I'm asking here.
I want to read a story or watch a movie or TV series (or whatever) which is about a young man who lives a pretty normal life. He's a good guy until one day something bad happens and he lets loose his immoral side. Then he slowly makes powerful friends so he can rise to power little by little and eventually betray them. He's the villain but the story reads like the good guys are really the bad guys.
Rather than being a perfect Gary Stu genius, he's constantly being set back not only by his enemies but also by his own mistakes, bad habits, and character flaws. Rather than just grimacing and overcoming whatever is stopping him, he flies into a rage, curses his bad luck, cries, gives up temporarily, and does things that real people do instead when they're defeated.
It should be a character study, a human drama with all the people surrounding him, a political thriller about gaining power, and a commentary on society. And the main character cannot be an old man, but has to be young enough to not have accepted that the world "is just the way it is" so he's properly motivated to change things. Fantasy and Science Fiction are ok but I'd rather this be in as realistic a setting as possible. Do you know anything like this?
>>8648341Worm.
why don't you write the story yourself, mr fancypants
>>8648348
Who's the author?
I haven't frequented /lit/ in a while, sorry if this is a daily thread that's made.
I enjoyed the book and it's simple prose. When John did use stronger prose, it was more noticeable and made for stronger moments.
Do you think Stoner had a good life? What was the saddest part of the book for you? Personally the realization that Grace had become a drunk got me.
>>8648328
OP tell me about this book and why In should read it. Everyone seems to love it.
Isn't this book basically middle class, heterosexual, male problems?
If so sign me up.
>>8649576
>Isn't this book basically middle class, heterosexual, male problems?
Basically. It's about an average dude with simple tastes who gets fucked over by everyone.
