Hello,
I am going on retreat in the Canadian wilderness for 5 months and I would like to bring some reading material.
Could you please recommend some good books?
Nonfiction is very welcome.
Thank you!

Name five books you like.
>>8645964
Daphnis and Chloe by Longus
Count of Monte Cristo
Plato's Phadreus
Tristam Shandy
Plutarch's Moralia
I guess I'll start the thread with recommendations of my own.
The Real Frank Zappa Book.
Autobiography and essays by Frank Zappa. 9/10
The Trial by Franz Kafka.
A harrowing expression of confusion and oppressive, faceless authority. A direct reflection of the author's mental condition. 9.5/10
Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs by Sussman.
Foundational course in the basic formulations of computing science. Profound insight into the mathematical structure of programming is presented. 9/10.
Quick! Post your literary waifus :3
This always
Post your shit, preferably your worst stuff.
Into a scarlet sky
My thoughts all went and flew
Collided with the stars
And rained down unto you.
My vistas stretched beyond our feet
As the sun massaged your back
Then we stared and stared together
Into that ceaseless black.
You said you're WORST. So here I go.
I posted here before, I TRIED to make it more digestible this time. I hope.

Is there any solid argument against the use of feminist theory to analyze literature? Something specific, as opposed to simply saying that irrelevant theories shouldn't be used to analyze literature. I went into it thinking it would all be bullshit, but I'm beginning to see how it could be useful in understanding our western culture. I do believe that "feminist" theory is a bit of a misnomer though.

fuck you she's cute, and falling in love with historical depictions of women is the most beautiful tragedy out there
Just finished this... holy shit. That ending was fucking bizarre. Are the rest of Pynchon's books as good as this? Which one should I read next? The only other one I have read is Inherent Vice.
No, all downhill from here. Read Dylan instead.

is it even that good? where would you rank it out of all the books you've read?

Sci. & Technol. Week (transcript of CNN TV programme) (Nexis) 24 Jan. The next thing you know, his friends have forwarded it [sc. an animation of a dancing baby] on and it's become a net meme.

Also literary melancholy circle jerk general.
Grab a barstool and share why you're sad. Other anons can suggest books to help or shitpost and call you names.

Anon, saging isn't just for making retarded posts with sage in capital letters.
Should I stop playing guitar and start becoming /lit/? I don't have the time to play anymore anyway because of studying in STEM. Also I've got a pretty decent selection of books.

I'm not him, but with such references I doubt you're going trough the "virtuoso path" and being a guitar player myself I totally disagree.
>Louis Menand argues in The New Yorker that Eliot regarded women the way he regarded Jews, seeing both as responsible for irrationality and romanticism
Was Eliot right?
No. Jews are responsible for sickly death-drive worshiping and women have no responsibility, else they wouldn't be women.
>>8650146
No.
But you want a woman bashing thread, so I'll give you the response you're looking for, and I'll even include a frog image:
Women suck and giving them the vote was the cause of the destruction of the west! Take the redpill! Join the sluthate movement!

Sounds like bullshit to me. What about his respect for Julian of Norwich?
You look so weak and tired now,old boy
I can see there's still fight left in you,old boy
Your skin is pale, your looking meek
you can only turn the other cheeck
Remembering your greatest peaks, old boy
The underlings you once could crush close in
The vultures and the jackals for your skin
You don't resist against this harm
Your far too sick to raise an arm
Against this hungry fateful swarm, old boy
