They are basically gimped varmint rounds designed to also fit into pistols. Is that actually part of their appeal?
>>31487147
Yes? No?
What do you mean by "meme" ammunition?
For instance, the 5.7 mm round is technically a .22 caliber round, like the 5.56 NATO round. The idea behind it was to have a round capable of penetrating Kevlar armor and to allow a handgun sized firearm to carry a fuckload of rounds in a magazine.
Of course the "MUH COPKILLER MUH FEELINGS" crowd quickly fucked up the popularity of the round with mass consumers, but it remains a viable, if expensive, round.
To the "shot placement is king penetration is queen blah blah blah muh art of the dynamic pistol" crowd the 5.7 should be a round sent from heaven itself, on a chariot made of the fire of Apollo. But what they really mean is "9mm is cheap and good enough so my argument isn't universal"
If by a "meme" round you mean expensive and will remain so for the foreseeable future, then yes, it's expensive per round. If you mean it is a useless round that doesn't serve any purpose then make another thread about "9mm VS .45 ACP" and see how many "shot placement is the most important thing ever forever more rounds is the best forever" responses you get.
>>31487181
I guess what I'm trying to get across is that I don't really see what these rounds do that 9mm and .221 Fireball didn't already do.
Once you commit to a larger overall package than a machine pistol and you want significantly better performance than a pistol round, why gimp the cartridge to fit into a pistol in the first place?
>>31487147
>should be a round sent from heaven itself, on a chariot made of the fire of Apollo
I've always been curious to shoot a 5.7 pistol at a bunch of stuff and see how it felt\did. Just haven't had the chance
Anybody got any experience with them? Are these good entry level AK's? Are they at least better than I.O. ones? My only knowledge of them is just some asshole mag dumping a 65 model at my local range.
I have a parts kit. Donno yet as it isn't built.
>>31487020
I have one, bought it back in March. I like it. People will say barrel sucks but mine is fine...dunno.
>>31487020
Butter soft ESS barrel.
Caveat Emptor
Buy once, cry once is the name of the game in the current AK market, unfortunately.
>mfw i'll never get to join a semi-futuristic, technologically advanced military straight out of a sci-fi story
What does the future of operators look like? When will we be sci-fi?

I've never played it lmao I just like the image. How long until some of the technology shows in militaries do you think? Like cloaking, super suits n such. What's the future of armor look like, etc..?
Is it bad that I tracked them down just to tell them how much I love them? Still trying to find IV8888's last name.
Also, youtubers thread.

Do whatever you feel, Burnie Myers.
One day you'll grow up and realise how fucking stupid you are. Maybe you'll join the military, maybe you'll take business studies instead of arts, but whatever path you choose, it is far away from the path you are on now.
I hope that day comes soon.

How do you pronounce ATACMS, /k/?
>>31486847
At-A-Cams
>>31486847
It depends. Usually on the firing end you'd jut call them M140s. On the receiving end, most call them AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAtacms. Usually the last part is cut off to shorten it.

/k/ it's finally time for me to enlist. I've posted here several times about new firearms i've aquired and things ive learned. But I feel its all useless unless i serve in my nation's military. I'm 20 and i've spent my entire life as an insulation worker in cramped spaces of upwards of 150 degree fareinheit for multiple hours. So i was thinking asking for 19k and being a tanker. Any advice or denial is greatly appreciated from those who are experienced and/or might offer me any words of encouragement or discouragement. I just need adivce. Thank you.
As a 19A (armor officer) I'd say make sure enlisting is what you want to do. The military isn't for everyone. There's some phenomenal people out there in the military that will blow you away, and there's also a lot of people that would be incapable of surviving outside of the military without someone telling them to do everything every minute of their life, and also are total weirdos.
However, if you're set on joining, I would say 19K is a great choice. Armor I think is a great branch as a whole because the leadership typically does not take themselves as seriously as the infantry dudes, but also isn't totally full of shammers (though fat tankers are pretty common).
Plus as a 19K you get to work on Abrams or on the Stryker MGS which are both pretty great platforms.
>>31486658
I am an eagle rank boy scout (as if that means anything) but i am very used to rough living conditions. My biggest fear is my parents. As if I drop out of college and enlist they will totally disown me. I'm ready for that as I control my own destiny, but I just need to be confident that 19k and the US army will not automatically lead me into a life of poverty as my parents have told me it certainly will.
>>31486564
>But I feel its all useless unless i serve in my nation's military.
As someone who's in it now, meh, you aren't missing much and it doesn't make you less of a man for not joining.
Besides, if you join, you still get shit on.
>join AF, get shit on by Army and Marines
>join either of those and be a desk POG, get shit on by everyone else in your branch
>join either of those and be a field POG, get shit on by the grunts
>join either as a grunt, get shit on by the rangers/airborne legs/etc
>join rangers/airborne, get shit on by the SOF
>join SOF, get told by the MPs how they're your combat brothers
>join the MPs, get laughed at and scorned by even the AF
>There are people on this board who think it's okay to have hot gas redirected back into the receiver of their gun.
>Inb4 the AR15 isn't gas impingement
Gas and fouling is still leaking out into the receiver at a much higher rate than a piston gun.

It's okay to have hot gas redirected back into the receiver of their gun.

Bullshit.
Hey /k/ I have a question but it requires a bit of explanation I'll they to be as concise as I can.
>Currently live in Germany but will be returning to America in about a year
>make friends with arms dealer
>find out Germany doesn't care about lower receivers
>should i buy some lower receivers here to bring back to the states?
>Also can I essentially do the same thing with a few nice H&K fun parts
I don't want to get my dog shot either so I'm curious about the legality of all of this
>>31486360
Would customs seize them as they're firearms by US law?
>>31486390
More than likely yes. Things like barrels or BCG might be easier to get in though since you can make them less obviously firearm parts but I still wouldn't do it personally.
>>31486410
Well I'm military so it would all get shipped with my household goods and customs for us is a joke people mange to smuggle fuck tons of beer and wine when they leave

I don't enjoy killing, but when done righteously, it's just a chore, like any other.
I need boots, cammies with built in elbow and knee pads, a load bearing vest for AK74 magazines, and a bump helmet.
Pls help. I am a walking firearm encyclopedia but I know next to nothing about gear.

I have a type 81 rig. All I have, no plate carrier, no helmet, no super boots (but I do have hiking shoes that I love) and no camo. If SHTF and somehow paratroopers fall into your neighborhood, riots happen, etc. then nothing other than guns, vehicle, and rigs will mean shit anyway.

Muh penis
Thinking about picking up one of these, heard they are the best knives you can buy. any thoughts?
>>31486118
I sincerely hope you have a brain tumor or something that's terminal.
But to answer the question, they're alright knives. don't buy one if what you want to do with it is particularly tang stressing. Kabars are notoriously easy to snap at the point where the blade meets the tang.
>>31486145
I know a couple buddies that got these standard issue in the marines and they swear this thing is the best knife
>>31486157
Marines will think a dildo is the best knife if it's OD green and has the EGA stamped somewhere on it.
Marines only use their knives to open MREs
Alright /K/omando's I recently transferred from my D.C.S youth development center to a regional adult prison SO MUCH BETTER then dealing with entitled little shits.
Any way I've been given a choice on my service weapon. They have two weapons to choose from. Smith&Wesson Model 28. 357 magnum 4 inch barrel. Or Glock 17
The smith is a original production old stock. I love old Smith and Wesson's But I'm worried i'll need the extra fire power in the glock. what should i go with. I've got a Smith and Wesson model 29 44. I'm more accurate with a revolver them a semi auto but im completely torn. guys help.....
>>31486055
I know right the options are good. the smith comes with a full duty rig with 4 speed loaders.... And if i take to option to buy it they take 20 dollars from each pay check and i get to keep the mother fucker. The glock doesn't get that option.
>>31486055
go to bed faggot
Jesus I think I'd take the Smith and buy it with that payment plan. Here's a question, if you decide to carry the Smith would they let you switch over to the Glock at a later point? I couldn't imagine needing more than 6 shots in a prison situation, when you should be able to pull back and get into better gear for the situation
Grandpa found out he has stage 4 lung cancer. Gave me his old Ruger Mark 1. I don't want to feel this way, /k/.

Poorfag here. Now, I know pic related has some options, but the Anon that made it admits they're a richfag. I was wondering if the information on this chart was entirely accurate or if there was a better gun that real poorfags can come to a consensus on.
>>31485924
Okay, we noticed you.
Choke on your own dick.
>>31485897
Also imho, thats a pretty good chart far as i can tell. Yes they are cheaper options out there, but this is a good basis that everyone is going to know most of the guns on.
>poorfag advice
Ive made a bit of a hobby out of making milsurp guns as smooth and reliable as possible, go figure now i have a suite of good shooters that i paid no more than $200 a piece for, because i put in the hours with a set of tiny files and lapping compound. What im saying is, you can make a budget gun pretty damn slick if you put in the time and show it some love.
>>31485897
The chart is pretty good, although a lot of the prices have gone up. For pistols, I would also add the Zastava M70 (TT-33 clone) to the list which goes for around $250. For rifles, the AKs are way more expensive now, but you can find an AMD-63 for $500 or get a brand new AR15 from Palmetto State Armory for under $500. I should've bought a lot more when I could have 8 years ago because it was half price, but I didn't. Now everything seems expensive, but I'm sure I'll be saying the same thing again in 8 years.
