I have got a budget of about $500 on my next rifle that I am planning on getting. I was looking at a M39 VKT Mosin, a AMD-63, or an Ishapore Enfield. However I can't decide because of their calibers:
-VKT, I own a Russian Mosin now and have an unopened 440 round tin and about 380 loose rounds in a ammo box. However I am planning on selling it to a buddy of mine here soon and I am not planning on having any other rifle in 7.62x54r. Basically I would be stocking up on ammo just for this rifle.
-AMD, I think it would make a good poorfag entry AK, plus the ammo is cheaper than the other two...but I am unsure of when I would be adding any other rifle in that caliber to my collection.
-Ish Enfield, I like it because .308/7.62x51 is pretty common to find and I am planning on getting a DSA Fal come tax return time and maybe down the road a Kel Tec RFB but it has the highest cost per round and I am planning on shooting whatever I choose a lot.
Can anybody give me some advice on this?

I was under the impression that air shows are more than entertainment, they actually were demonstrations of piloting skills and aircraft technology.
Then I saw:
http://www.reuters.com/news/picture/north-korea-air-show?articleId=USRTSPJSW
After this, some other cases came to mind, particularly Switzerland. Now I am curious. Why does /k/ watch air shows for and what are the reasons you believe they take place?
>>31474472
They're a recruitment tool.
>>31474472
Entertainment.
Entertainment, business, advertisement, showcasing, entertainment.
>>31474472
They give pilots a chance to show off.
They give the military a chance to recruit.
They give the government a chance to wave their big dick around in people's faces.
But mostly they're just for entertainment.
what does /k/ think of .308 winchester?
thinking of getting a bolt gun in .308
>>31474466
Or get a semi auto in .308
>>31474466
what's your use case?
308 is my favorite cartridge.
It has plenty of authority, is easy to get, can turn a car into a colander and can be 1000 meters + with plenty of accuracy
Great pick OP.
will I really get hassled if I just use a normal mag release? can't I just lie and say its a raw? how are they gonna know? do ranges check databases?
why dont you stop talking and post that sauce

So, most places need you to bring your own gun or a friend before letting you rent a gun. What about feeling or seeing a gun? What happens if you brought some ammo in your pocket for a particular gun, asked to see it, they hand it to you, you take a step back, load, it and get ready to BURN YOUR DREAD? Asking for a friend and out of morbid curiosity.
Or do most places not even let you touch a gun without having your own/bringing a friend.
>>31474350
my head hurts from reading that. have you even lurked here, or did you stumble in and just post the first thing you could half ass type?

Why don't they model tanks after ants? They are clearly the superior form of life and are capable of lifting incredible loads without fail for immeasurable amounts of time.
If our tanks took this form we would never lose a war.
oh look, a forced meme thread
>>31474225
Ants are tiny. You can't just upscale one.
Using some form of artificial natural selection process to design vehicles, however, can be argued for.
>>31474225
>>31474225
>They are clearly the superior form of life and are capable of lifting incredible loads without fail for immeasurable amounts of time.
first and foremost. the only reason they can lift what seems to be a shitload more than their weight is because they're incredibly small. everything about common insect design is poor for things larger than said insects.
Secondly, treads are better than legs.
Square-cube law fucks the shit out of insects.
Yo /k/. I've had the thought of creating a universe that I could use for various creative projects, mostly games (both video and traditional). It would be in a medieval fantasy setting where people somehow found out how to make pseudo-modern firearms (no polymer) along with some other basic machines, but otherwise did not change culturally.
The guns in this world wouldn't be mass produced but instead carefully crafted by master smiths. Swords still exist but are more useful as sidearms. They could also be enchanted and given magical attributes.
So my question is, how would I make this world in a way that could at least somewhat suspend disbelief?
>pic gives an idea of the basic aesthetic I'm going for these weapons, but more advanced.
>>31473887
Single and lever actions cus why not
>>31473977
I kinda want to try and find a way to make automatic weaponry believable in this universe. Primitive, but they would exist.
I also think it would be a cool idea if there would be magical artifacts that would work like holographic sights, projecting a magical glyph-like image that would be used to aim.

Gatling guns, repeaters with primitive paper cartridges instead of brass and primers, revolvers, ect...
Hello /k/ommandos, I have a question of great importance. What killed off the use of 16 gauge?
12ga and 20ga.
>>31473800
It's the .40 S&W of shotguns.
12ga is literally the only shotgun bore of relevance. I suppose you could maybe make a case for 10ga in some situations, but you're better off with a 12ga shotgun with light loads than you are with a 16ga or 20ga.
Tried this thread earlier today with no luck. I'm hoping night /k/ can save the day.
I bought a pair of jackboots today and am request help IDing them. They are advertised as "ww2 German marching boots" but I don't think that they are. Early DDR? Hungarian?
At any rate, finding jackboots in size 11 for $50 is rare, so even if there not real nazi, I won't feel the least bit rustled.
>>31473756

What are some good rifles chambered in .470 Nitro Express? Also, how many Level 4 plates could a .470 NE rifle destroy in 1-2 shots?
Also, what do you think is the best ammunition to be used in elephant guns, and what are some more powerful, legal calibers?
>>31473384
1)$50,000 dollar double rifles made by H&H and Rigby.
2)470NE is kinda as slow moving cartridge (500gr boolet moving at 2200fps) so I would not think that it would pen that much compared to a faster moving steel cored cartridge.
3)Legal Calibers? A good Mauser style bolt action in something like 375 H&H, 458 win mag, 458 Lott would be my choice.
just get an AR-15 anything else is a trash toy. AR-15 can do anything, go anywhere, kill anything.
>>31473518
What I want to kill/capture seems to be able to withstand .357s, .44s, and point blank shots to the face. Face shots hurt them though, but it doesn't incapacitate or kill them. Just makes them run away, cry, and moan in pain.
155 HE on the range at Sill is fucking beautiful

separated at birth?
>be me
>be about 11
>sitting in my grandfather's house, looking through his Army ribbons and patches that he kept in an old cigar box
>knew he was an Army sergeant back in the '60s, not much else
>hold up a particular ribbon that caught my eye
>"hey grandpa, what did you get this one for?"
>he looks at it, tightens his mouth a bit, and says "now anon, there are some questions you just don't ask a vet"
>get the message and put it back into the box
After that I never really talked to my grandfather about his military service. I'd try to bring it up casually, but he'd always gently steer the conversation somewhere else.
>fast forward to about a month ago
>sitting on porch with grandpa
>on my first beer, he's probably on his fifth
>looking through a newspaper, notice an article about a friendly fire incident at a nearby Army base
>nothing major, no deaths
>make some comment about it
>grandpa looks over and says "no such thing as friendly fire"
He suddenly launches into a story and it's the most I've ever heard him talk about his time in the Army.
>tells me about leading a recon patrol with an armored cav unit
>buck sergeant, was team RTO for a while but got promoted
>first patrol as team leader
>get word that another unit has called for fire in the area
>no big deal, happens all the time
>says he suddenly heard a noise like a freight train rushing directly at them, but from above
>three recon guys from his team and nine cav guys just disappear in a shower of dirt
>doesn't go into too much detail, but says the aftermath was bad
>ends it by saying that an American 120mm arty crew had just plugged in the wrong coordinates and hit his unit instead of their target
I still get chills when I remember him telling me this story. Has /k/ ever had their grandfathers or other military family open up to them like this?
Pic related, it's my grandfather during mountaineering training in Germany.
Grandfather was a mortar team member during the battle of the bulge. Marched across Belgium and was shot by a German in a tree sometime in February or March 1945. Rrecovered and missed the rest of the war. Called it his million dollar wound in later life.

>Burned out busses full of charred corpses.
>One of his squad mates being blown apart by a grenade.
>Uncle kept a piece of shrapnel he found from the grenade as a reminder. Showed it to me only once.
>Talked about his experience reentering civilian life, always on edge, hitting the deck around 4th of July, etc.
>Great guy, taught me a lot of shit he learned in the Marine Corps about weapons, survival, etc.

For those of you that don't know, during Vietnam, Charlie often would wear all black at night to be even less visible. This doesn't exactly help, though, when a giant fucking spotlight is on them.
>its a bunch of fucking huey gunships
>he knows whats coming
>bunch of charlies in the spotlight
>they fucking freeze
>WATCH THIS, PRIVATE GRANDPA
>grandpa plugs ears

The First Sergeant is Albert Curly, btw. He and my grandfather were 561st CSGS. Sorry the pic is so small. Grandpa is bottom right, Curly is the lighter skinned of the two black gentlemen on the bottom.
