As a saw gunner I used to wrap my m249 with a shirt in the back of a 7 ton if it was dusty. But that was during transport, you'd never have that shit on for combat.

Is 556 a reliable man stopper? I get that it works for a modern military when it is used more for suppression than anything else. But when you don't have artillery and air support, wouldn't a 308 be a better option?

A 120gr .25-06 bullet traveling at ~2700fps will kill a 700lbs elk.
A 69gr .223 bullet traveling at ~2700fps will work just fine on a 200lbs man.
