Hey /k. I'm having trouble identifying this pistol from my great grandfather. He served in World War II as a ground troop. I believe it's a 1939 m1911a1 but I'm not good at identifying weapons so I'd figure I'd ask you guys. Thanks for the help.

My mother who is 64 years old asked me today to look around for a handgun for her to keep in her nightstand(maybe purse carry but this is optional). She's about 5'5 and maybe 120lbs she won't conceded and get a long gun so handguns only. I was thinking a smaller .38 special or a poly 9mm something with light recoil but can still get the job done if need be preferably sub $450 and a decent after market. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Note I'd prefer something with a hammer and a D/S trigger.

It's small (between a Glock 26 and 43 in size from what I remember), has 15+1 rounds of .380, is inexpensive (can be bought for $350ish new and less than that used), is double/single action, has a better sight picture than most small guns, and is lightweight (20 something ounces) despite having an all-metal frame.
Downsides are that it only comes with one mag and that it will need periodic maintenance that your mother might not be able to do by herself due to it being a semi-auto.

So... we've had problems.
My parents own a good few acres of Wisconsin woods, and for the past few years there've been trespassers.
Over the years, we've heard close gunshots. Called with a megaphone to get the fuck out, but what are you gonna do?
Two years ago, we surveyed off our territory, and put up DO NOT ENTER signs. They ended up being torn down and shot up.
Last year, we went around and found two deer stands. Not on the edge of our property, but in the middle in two places. We took them down.
This year, we left a bucket full of screws next to some lumber on a deer stand we were making. Today I found out someone stole them.
So what the fuck? What the hell can I do?
I'm thinking of putting up trail cams that take a large extended ladder to reach (otherwise they'd just get stolen). But then what? Confront an armed fucker in the woods with my draco?
Lord knows the cops won't do anything, nor do I want them stalking my land, seeing my "not building code-approve" structures, or anything like that.
I'm not sure what to do...

I keep having arguments with redditors on r/combatfootage about T.O.W. Missile 'Tracking'. Regarding the red 'glow' we see on the back of a T.O.W. (specifically BGM-71 or MILAN) missile in flight; is that red light a 'flare' used to optically track the missile or is it just glow from the rocket motor?

I read somewhere that the Panther tank was the best medium tank in the world until the early-50s. Medium tanks in that period include:
-M26 Pershing
-M46/47/48 Patton
-T--34-85
-T-44
-T-54/55
-Comet
-Centurion
(I omitted some tanks that are clearly inferior, but probably forgot some contemporaries)
With that list in mind, i'm not sure if the claim is entirely true. The Pattons, Chieftain, and T-54/55 were excellent tanks, and I'm not sure if the Panther could compete.
What does /k/ think? Was it even the greatest medium tank in WWII?
