help me /k/ you're my only hope

I want to get a vz 58 for my first gun (in Canada). but I feel like I don't have enough knowledge to simply just buy a vz 58 from some online shop or something.

so drop anything you know about the platform and what companies are good to go.

Since you're in Canadia you probably don't have to worry about looking over a century vz2008 before you buy it, although those do have a fix for the vz gremlin.
>>
>>33083117
Canada doesn't have any weird import laws besides bans on specific firearms.
Yours is Czech made. You should be good to go.

If it was imported from czech republic, it should be good to go. It's my favorite rifle I've ever held personally.
I'm torn between whether a vz58 or sks would be a better rifle for your country with the 5rd mag restrictions.
I have both, love both. But the vz58 is a lot easier to take apart and easier to clean all around. It's basically a heavily upgraded sks in a lot of ways.

Everybody has a right to make a profit, but the gun industry has gone overboard with marketing gimmicks.
>plastic tipped bullets
>bonded bullets
>high velocity magnums
>the word "tactical"
>overpriced plastic parts (AKA "polymer")
>ballistic reticles
>huge scopes
>hyped-up triggers with heavy pull weights
>"modern sporting rifles"
It's all bullshit. None of this stuff actually improves shooting in the real world. You can shoot every bit as well with technology we had in the 1930s as you can with these new gimmicks (with the exception of powders, which really have improved).

>>
>>33083078
Then just buy 1930s stuff and stfu.
Problem solved.
>>
>>33083078
>Plastic tipped bullets
Higher ballistic coefficients and more reliable feeding in military arms.
>Bonded bullets
New bullet tech is where it's at. After all, we're kind of stalled otherwise.
>HV magnums
Kind of the point. 300WM will kill a bear just as dead (if not deader than 30 years ago) but a 338 LM is delivers a lot more power at range
>"tactical"
I agree.
>ballistic reticles
Not enough FFP mil reticles, far too much BDC reticles
>yuge scopes
Optics quality has improved greatly. My gripe would be about people that put 30x scopes on a <500 yard rifle. The old rule of 1x/100yd is still true. In capable hands and with sharp eyes, you can do more than ever with the same magnification.
>hyped up triggers with heavy pull weights
Which triggers are these?
>msr
AR-15's, AR-10's, AK's, and others are cool and have their place. I love that a Ruger AR-556 is capable of MOA accuracy--which as accurate as my grandfather's old .25 Remington and with a longer effective range.
>>
>>33083153
>Higher ballistic coefficients
Barely. The difference is very slight.
>and more reliable feeding in military arms.
Show me a gun that won't feed softpoint and FMJ bullets.
>New bullet tech is where it's at. After all, we're kind of stalled otherwise.
Cup and core bullets work fine when driven at the proper velocity

https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=86
>power
You use that word, but it's not defined and there is no way to measure it, so it's essentially meaningless.
>Not enough FFP mil reticles, far too much BDC reticles
Neither are needed, and both are useless except at known ranges.
>Optics quality has improved greatly
That's true, but the improvement has been in the clarity and coatings of the glass, not the size of the scope.
>Which triggers are these?
Remington X-mark pro, Winchester MOA, and Browning Feather trigger. All of these are heavy. The only brand that sells good triggers out of the box is Sako/Tikka.
>AR-15's, AR-10's, AK's, and others are cool and have their place.
It's not that these designs don't have potential. It's that people buy them for the way they make them feel, not for how they perform.

Are magazine disconnects really that bad? I mean, the idea of being able to disable your gun by dropping the mag in case a criminal wrestles the gun away from you sounds nice, but everyone I talk to about them disagrees.
6 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
you've still got one in the chamber, and any time used dropping the mag is time batter spent shooting.
>>
Incredibly specific application
More chances for it to fuck you over rather than save
Impedes trigger pull by at least a pound in all implementations and adds grit and creep

Not worth it

The ar market is flooded and if you build instead of buy then it isn't overpriced.

I've built all mine for under $450 but they still are in the $700 and up range at all the gun shops around me. They are definitely cheaper then AK's to build but at gun shops they are about the same. I just picked up my AK for $429 and found this SKS for $329 around the time Sandy Hook happened and every AR was at $1,200 and up for basic garbage AR's.

Does the military have the full list of CIA operatives stashed somewhere? What if the whole agency went rogue, do you think they have some contingency plan for that?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I doubt they have some kind of master list. The reason being, theres no purpose to have one and if such a list did exist, it would be a huge liability. I would guess theres a lot of compartmentalization for security's sake.

What's a good price to list on my M&P Shield 9mm with ~100 rounds through it? I'm also selling it with a crossbreed holster and it has Talon grips.

It has extremely minimal wear only 1 scratch

Are towed anti tank guns obsolete?
9 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>33080362
depends where.
yes in the west, no in sandland.
>>
>>33080362
Missiles have pretty much made them obsolete everywhere that matters.
>>
>>33080362
Mostly. They were questionable during WW2. Modern tanks can take at least 90mm shots to the front and anti-tank guns aren't maneuverable enough to ensure flank shot. The weight of a 120mm cannon is just too much to make infantry lug around with reloads.

Without the ability to move an anti-tank gun by hand it's basically a static gun emplacements and modern artillery and air strikes makes that pointless without a fortified position.

The whole idea was basically an ad hoc measure to use light artillery pieces against tanks.

Hey /k/ommandos.

Semi-autos in .30-06

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a semi-automatic, magazine-fed rifle chambered in .30-06?

So far the only thing I've found is the Noreen BN-36.

I love my Garand - but I'd like to have this caliber round in an AR like platform.

NO - I don't want to go to .308/7.62.

Thanks,

There aren't any good semi .30-06
If you insist on getting one, the hcar is about the least worst.

Or step up to .300wm or .300 norma
>>

>Semi-auto
>In .30-06

Why though? Going to .308 would give you so many options that are less than 70 years old.

I don't want to add another Caliber of munitions to the stock pile.

Has /k/ ever sold a gun?

Currently trying to sell an ar15 that a coworker is interested in buying

Do I need to have him fill some paperwork or do a background check on him? I live in FL

What about if I decide to sell it on Armslist?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Are you a fucking idiot? You can look this shit up. In most states he gets the gun and you get the cash. Done deal.

If you ship it across state lines it has to be sent to an FFL.
>>
my only advice is you demand he signs a bill of sale basically a sheet of paper that says "I, faggot, sold this weapon sn xxx-xxxx, to my faggoty-ass coworker, on this day, xx of x, xxxx.

both of you sign, and this means that weapon is ever used in a crime and they come looking for original owner, you can show them the bill of sale and pass the police on to the next guy
>>
>>33080024

Have a bill of sale

>manufacturer
>model
>caliber
>serial number
>buyers license number from his drivers license
>get it signed by a notary public

The whole point is to cover your ass if the cops knock on your door saying that your gun was used in crime

Under what circumstances? In a European theater or on American soil?

Modern ECM systems can jam 1983 planes to point of absolute useless. And I don't think that USAF were so good in dogfights.
>>
>>33079313
This. The euros would enjoy so much information dominance they would wipe the floor with 1983 USAF.
