The VEPR has the thick RPK receiver and heavy barrel which is nice but increases weight. It also uses RPK handguards which means if you want to switch furniture on the rifle you'll have to get RPK hanguards or buy the Iron Wood Designs VEPR set which is like 300$

For the rearstock you also have to either do some fitting or get an RPK rear clubfoot stock.

Basically you'll run into some trouble with aftermarket parts availability and price and the increased weight can be a turn off if you are planning on doing innawood shit.

If you plan on leaving the rifle pretty close to as is then I'd get the VEPR. If you're planning on modifying the rifle with different furniture or what have you and doing AK shit then get a WASR.

Not a regular competition shooter, and certainly not obscenely rich. Don't and won't have any kids to support, though, so it's not like I'd be putting it on a CC and floating a balance.

I guess I'm just trying to decide which one I'd regret less. Having spent a huge amount for what is still just a 22lr, or spending a smaller, but still significant chunk and kicking myself for not going all out.

This is irrelevant. The question you should be asking yourself is how well can you shoot with it.

You may think the 43 "feels" better but the Glock 26 is much more shootable and ontop of that, Magpul makes an extended 12rd pmag for the Glock 26 that makes it the size of an M&P9c and gives your pinky some space.

There is always the Glock 19 AIWB. I have no idea what clothes you wear or what your body type is but with effort in finding the right belt/holster, you can conceal a 19.
