What would you charge someone for a set of 10 icons like these? Would you give a discount for a larger order, say 25 or even 50 icons? What if somebody only needs 2-3 icons?
I'm thinking of charging 400$ for 10 icons. Does that seem fair? Don't underestimate the amount of work an icon is.
>>2501928
Don't know; never had much of a need for an icon. I can only think of developers having a need for that.
How long would an icon take to make on average?
>>2501936
Yeah the client is an indie dev, but he has a budget and I've worked with him before so I can charge somewhat in the pro range (not that I'm a big deal or anything).
I'd say an icon takes 2-3 hours. Can definitely do 3-4 on a good day. Ofc some are more complex than others.
What's the best piece of art you've seen drawn with a mouse? Bonus greatness if it was done in MSPaint.
>>2501200
A lot of Mullins' early work was done with a mouse. Also iirc Sean Cheeks Galloway uses a mouse for all his stuff, or at least he used to.
Most pixel art is done with a mouse, especially the stuff that was done back when it was contemporary

Sup fellow artists!! I just purchased a Wacom Tablet and I need some nice brush pre-sets for drawing. Can I also get some tips on how to draw? Thanks!!

Read the sticky.
What is "sticky" :|
bump , i need some too
Here's a challenge, the your favorite fashion image and draw it!
>>2501863
>the your favorite fashion image and draw it!
wat
>>2501865
I think he means find a picture with a fashion style you like and draw it.
>>2501874
You mean what people who draw characters pretty much do already?
I think better: Post fashion you like and the poster below has to draw it or something that incorporates the elements of the outfit.
How long do you have to be drawing before you can be sure you aren't going to quit?
>>2501649
Pain doesn't have to be temporary, and quitting doesn't necessarily last forever.
:^)
>>2501649
Pain is weakness leaving the body. The more you feel you suck at art, the more you are improving. Quitting at that point would be a waste.
>>2501787
It hurts so bad with each drawing I am terrified I will do worse than I have before.
Is graphic design a good career choice? Or will I end up as a starving artist? How easy is it to get a job, how high/low is the pay?
There's /gd/, but in comparison to other artists jobs there seem to be a lot of graphic design vacancies.
Also depends what you are trying to do. Obviously doing only logo design won't pay you as much/steady as,say, doing layout for newspapers/magazines or doing graphic design for web.
>>2499644
while there may be more openings, there will also be hell of a lot more people going for those openings
>>2499644
I'm a graphic designer by trade. I'm from Chile.
It's actually pretty interesting because you don't often see two designers that do the exact same things. Everyone sort of finds their niche. For instance, I was always good working with machines, so I got a cozy job at a place that prints merch for some important companies. Event hough I know how to design stuff and illustrate children's books and comics, I do those things on the side, for private costumers. In the other hand, some of my old coworkers go into photography, frontend UX, etc.
So in the end you can always find jobs, as long as you work really hard for those. The problem is that most "creative" people are incredibly lazy (I include myself on that group), so it's not very common to see them going the extra mile.
Does anyone here have any experience with charcoal and graphite paper?
Im looking for paper with texture and im guessing heavy weight aswell like pic related. Can anyone show me some sketchpads that give similar texture?
>>2500775
here are my options im looking into
>>2500779
more work from that artist
I finished a graphic novel script. I think the plot is kind of not great. I hate writing plots.
But it's been 3 years. Should I put it out anyway just for the sake of getting it done? Or should I perfect it which I really have no idea how to do?
Going to draw it too but not here for art critique yet, picture not mine
>>2501844
1. that picture sucks.
2. would probably be better to ask /lit/ or something
3. graphic novels always have shitty plots.
Just do some fan made plot ones and take criticism on it.
>>2501844
Just do it. You will learn a lot as you go. There will always be more ideas to execute afterwords.
>>2501844
Don't suffer "the masterpiece problem". Your first story will be trash no matter what. Spit out many many scripts and see what works and what doesn't. Writers get better by writing.
If you feel like perfecting it is something you have no idea how to do, it's study time. Read Words for Pictures by Michael Brian Bendis, Scott McCloud's books, and and Save the Cat! by Blake Snyder.
Just curious, if a youtube user/channel(especially a more sucessful one) uses your artwork on their thumbnail without permission(and/or credit) for the sake of clickbait, is that grounds for a dmca?
Example in the picture; Venturantale(your generic pewdiepie wannabe but still famous for some reason) is using an image that clearly does not belong to him in this thumbnail; although I doubt the original artist even knows who he is
But I noticed that many youtubers, especially the psuedo intellectual ranters and the lets players tend to do this and they're making money off of it
>>2501818
Yes, it's your right.
>>2501818
No publicity is bad publicity
I found a video with one of mine as a thumb, it's whatevs
uberdanger does this and its fucking disgusting, he just finds random soft core porn of league characters and paste them all over the thumbnails

I understand pic related makes me seem like bandwagon, but I just can't stop staring at her (in the best way).

So I got into UCLA's art program and Cooper Union and I'm trying to make a decision before May. Have any anons been to these schools?
Whats /ic/'s views on going to art school in general?
>>2491654
art school is not for beginner artist but for self thought artists who have stopped progressing and need guidance to continue improving. if you are joining with 0 experience on drawing you will spend the whole time learning how to hold a pencil instead of how to enrich your craft. also working/going to school will in no way hinder your progress so don't drop either thinking it will help you improve.
>>2491667
How did you think I got in? Both of them require a portfolio and cooper union has a home test that requires original work. I've been going to an art HS for the last 4 years so I have experience.
I'm hoping to do a work study program in college to cover all the other costs so I'm glad I won't have to drop that.
Is UCLA worth transferring to than UCMerced?
Draw a caricature of a liberal or conservative person
conservative is literally just ellis from left4dead

This isn't the 90s, you know.

This. The op looks like something out of King of the Hill
Can someone help me out here?
I've to make something in 3D that represents three aspects:
humanity, charity (brotherly love) and owenership
I know how to represent each individually but I'd like to combine all three.
I'm not asking for a solution. Just ideas to get my brain going.

Damn, wish I knew him earlier. Amazing and inspiring stuff. Thanks man!
>>2501273
Awesome work, shame about the horrible web design. Take note artists. Do not ever force people viewing your portfolio to go full screen when clicking a image, it's annoying as fuck.

All I have are watercolor paints, but id like to get into regular acrylic painting.
Can you do regular paintings with water color paints? just - without the water?
I really have no interest in the process of water color painting
>>2501281
Find the beginner thread.
Read "Fun with drawing".
Draw a million sphere heads with big noses.
Learn to see.
Learn to draw.
Practice every day for 6 hours ideally.
Do this for two years.
Now you can learn to paint.
>>2501281
No you can't really. It won't handle the same as acrylics, and also will cost WAY WAY more by volume if you aren't adding any water to it.
Either try watercolour normally, or buy some acrylics. If money is an issue you can start with a limited palette.
>>2501281
Try gouache, which is water-based, but not too runny.
