Scanlators are notorious for bombarding scans with filters that warp, smudge, sharpen, etc, to make shit look less scanned. I wouldn't trust a scanlation as a proper representation of the original printed artwork without comparing them myself, same as I would never trust their translations to be correct. Scanlators are all a bunch of dipshits.

Speaking of memes

I bought a Staedtler pencil sharpener and I could probably get a better and more consistent result if I tried sharpening pencils with my teeth (I wish I was joking)

I also bought a Staedtler lead pointer to complement my Staedtler lead holder and it absolutely wrecks the lead's shit like 3/4 of the time or more (I know to use the little length divots). Admittedly when it works it really works but I'm just having the shittiest luck with these things, like someone at Staedtler read some of the things I've said on the internet and is purposely sending me duds.

Do any of you brahs know what I might be doing wrong; particularly with the lead pointer? I really like the results when it does work correctly but more often than not it like, "digs in" to the lead and just snaps a piece off of its ass, and these leads are unfortunately expensive as well.

Drawing from life you convert a 3d object (binocular vision, and you can walk around it too) to a 2d representation. Drawing from a photo you take a 2d representation and turn it into another 2d representation. There's a whole different level of understanding you will get from life. Not to mention that photos distort reality in many ways differently than your eye sees, from lens distortion to exposure ranges to colour intensity and variety.

Any method of construction is meant as a tool to help break down and understand what you are looking at. It's not meant to be a formula that you try to force to fit your model. When drawing from life, observation comes first.

Photos are a great tool, but they are not a replacement for drawing from life. Use them as a supplement or for things that are difficult to draw from life like things in motion or a specific design or place you don't have ordinary access to.

Plus life drawing is a good way to meet plebs whom are interested and motivated about the artist process.

On top of what other have already said, life drawing is a great way for me to to work really hard for a few hours. At home I have a lot of distractions, but during my life drawing sessions I am completely focused on my drawing and get a shit load done in a mere 3 hours. It's great.

Well, for starters, Hentai-foundry is probably the best place to post first. They only take what they deem "quality content". If they deny you then you know you're still shit and need to practice. Once you post a few good things, they will greenlist you allowing you to post freely without the go ahead from the mods. The positive of HF is that there isn't a ton of traffic, and the new stuff is posted right on the front page so everyone sees it. If you're good, you'll get followers in no time.

This one is obvious: but tumblr. I recommend doing tumblr after you have a good little following on Hentai-Foundry.

Thirdly, you can always self-promote in the self-promotion threads on 4chan.

Lastly, Deviantart doesn't allow EXTREME nsfw work, but they allow it to a certain extent. Maybe use your Deviant art as a sort of "ad" for your tumblr and Hentai-Foundry where your "real" porn goes.

Keeping in mind that all these people who say "get connections" seem to forget that people who are working in the industry are bombarded all day long by morons looking to use them. Unless you have something to offer them back or to distinguish yourself from the throngs of cock munchers who msg them (a.k.a. some sort of artistic skill) you're not going to get far. People know when you're just trying to stroke their dick to get something from them.

The only advice that actually matters is getting better at your craft. Keep working hard to improve and keep putting work out there on social media. You'll know when you're getting good because people will be taking interest in the stuff you show. No buisness is going to hire you in a ultra competitive field unless you have something to offer them that makes them more money than they pay you, no matter who you know. Once you get to a certain level (and it doesn't have to be godlike) and are constantly putting your shit out there people will want to talk with you and it'll be easier to make connections and actively go after work. It's something that takes time and you build up to over years, you don't just go out and target a few industry guys on facebook and cold msg them asking to hook you up.

No pro wants to be friends with some IC pleb level idiot just cuz yur a cool dud. They know plenty of cool duds already.

Who is this character? What is his personality and role? What are you trying to show with your design? What society is he a part of?

It's hard to crit a design without context. Thinking more on who your character actually is will help too with your design choices.

Just looking at it out of context I will say it feels a bit generic at the moment. The shapes are all similar sizes and the silhouette have lots of little jutting things. How can you simplify things? How can you bring more variety in? How can it be a more recognizable or iconic design? How can you make things more functional?

I feel that these are not thought out enough. Ask yourself lots of questions then answer them with your design.

There's a sticky at the top of /ic/, it contains links that cover the basics and more for beginners. Read them, because it contains much better feedback for you than any anon will bother to give at this stage.

Once you're aware of stuff in the sticky you can come back here and ask for feedback, but right now the drawing you posted is plagued with the same mistakes ten million other people have made and nobody will bother to critique it for this reason.

People won't bother not because they're mean, but because all that needs to be critiqued is already in the sticky.

Yeah, I'd seen a doctor a few years before about hand pain and he wrote it off as tendinitis. Since then I've made sure to stretch every day, but apparently it didn't help.
