Im kinda confused about something. On pic related we see in a simple way how to draw a cylinder, right? But... If you try to draw a cylinder in a 2 point perspective and its not in the middle of our drawing its gonna be skewed.

If you see example 1 its in front of us on the middle - we see the axis goes straight down like in 2 point perspective, right? But if we want our axis straight down (and it should be in 2 point perspective) and draw the elipse like we are supposed to we end up with example 3 - it wouldnt fit in our grid but it would be correct if we extended the lines and made a cylinder out of that. To make it fit we would have to turn it a bit like in example 2 but the axis doesnt go straight down so it'd have to be either in a 3 point perspective or if we made straight lines, drew another elipse that way and made a cylinder out of it- it would be disorted - kinda like on the 2nd example of the first pic from the book

So how we should go about this? Draw your cylinders in 1 point perspective or have skewed cylinders in 2 point perspective? Or maybe am I missing something?

If you dont understand then just ask, im gonna try explain it further

draw a plane in perspective and then put a circle inside of it and you'll have your cylinder cap

Drew it that way it shows on the instructions - it looks right but doesnt fit into the grid

Drew it so it fits into the grid - its disorted (i know the top one would be a bit less showing, but still)

Post examples of animated television shows, films and comics that use asymmetrical character designs. Characters with largely individualistic designs that seem to complement one another and the environment in which they're placed in some way and why you feel they work or even why you think they don't.

Resources on topical subjects like color theory and shape language appreciated as well.

What is the actual toxicity level of /ic/ and does being a hard ass on somebody actually help them get better?

It reminds me a lot of /a/ the last time I went there, around 2012-2013. This is in term to the level of elitism and average degree of assholery expressed by the typical Anon.

>does being a hard ass on somebody actually help them get better?
For some people it might. Anger can be a good tool to motivate people enough to get off their ass and do something.

If harsh comments make you quit then maybe quitting is the best thing for you. Giving up isn't always a bad idea.

>Giving up isn't always a bad idea.

If you're a bitch with no self-esteem, getting butthurt at the internet, suicide isn't always a bad idea.

Otherwise, if you really wanna improve, quitting is the stupidest thing you can do.

Is this a good design /ic/?

Not particularly. It's fairly generic and not very functional or interesting. It's basically just medieval armor that has some glowy shit added to be sci-fi. That said, the quality of a design is largely based on its purpose--what is the project, who is the character, what is the world, what role does the design have, what problems are attempting to be solved by the design etc.--so without context it is hard to give an opinion on more than just the surface aspects of it.

Is it just me or is the perspective/scale of the figures on the bridge completely fucked? Compared to the boats to the left of the other side of the bridge, it appears they would be giants.

What kind of opinions do you honestly think you will get? There is not much to critique, desu. Guess everything i will say can be derailed into a "muh style" discussion but well.. composition is non existent, as well as any kind of "basics".. at this point its pretty much just different places with lines and colours. What are your goals? Do you want to get better and actually get into illustration or do you just want to do it as a hobby?

Does anyone have any tips how to draw bending a box like in the page?.

I just can't seem to wrap my head round drawing it?.

Go outside then and do some plein air. Or don't do art if it isn't fun. It's a solitary hobby/profession, so get used to working alone.

If you were financially secure, led a family life and all that and your kids would manifest an interest in drawing would you seriously mentor them and set them on a path to mastery early or let them be kids and fumble around untill their mid-teens?
33 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
I would set them up with a mentor and feed them resources. I would not mentor them myself. Then if I don't like the mentor or my kid doesn't like them, there is always room to switch. Not investing into their skills earlier on seems a waste to me, there are kids who can do some great shit because they worked hard early on.
>>
>>2492545
Mentor them. By the way I wouldn't send them to school at all and hire private teachers instead for every subject. Without wasting 8+ hours/day it's possible to make them master multiple fields (learning multiple languages to near-native level etc.) by the time it takes the average teen to finish high school.
>>

>>2492595

Hmmm, I think I made a mistake in the OP. I should've said you were earning a living with your art. Meaning there's no way you can hire someone better than you at a reasonable rate.

I'm wondering about the atelier system in a familial context. On one hand it'd set a kid on the same path Mozart started on. On the other it may be seen as imposing your own passions on a kid just because it likes to doodle and get praised by you.
