What is this and why is it in a museum?
>op doesn't get it
i bet you don't have the ligameme either

This kind of art is made and enjoyed by superior human beings. Most of us just cannot comprehend the beauty and true meaning of this piece. We will never be able to understand and appreciate. I admire those who can. I wish I had the spark.

Other boards have recommended reading lists, and since there was a thread about it on /lit/ I started putting together one for /ic/. What other books does it need? I'm mostly thinking more books on painting.
>>2487178
>Bammes
I don't read Cuck
>Jeno Barcsay
One of the worst anatomy books ever
>Imaginative Realism
>lets make puppets and dolls houses and sheiit
Otherwise not that bad, Hampton is babby tier and kind of a shit draughtsman so it's only worth reading if you aren't willing to put in the hours with heavier, but better material.
Replace with Richer, Vanderpoel, J.D Harding and Edgar Payne.
>>2487183
Just look at the pictures in the Bammes book. I included the Jeno Barcsay book because it has diagrams of the bones and muscles, is there a better book that does this? It's not bad, but the drawing is a bit eccentric. The Hampton book is excellent. I don't care for Loomis but I included them anyway.

>I'm mostly thinking more books on painting.
having a book lists for painting is not bad, but should not be the single one, others might hop in with focus on drawing, and they will start bashing on the list since it does't help them
For those of you who are freelance/self employed, what is it like, in terms of hours worked/income?
>>2495375
tick tock wage cuck
trying to freelance now? i dont think your boss will like that
It sucks. Better to work in a studio.
Freelancing is a nice little bonus or something to do between real gigs, but in my experience it's very hard to make a living at.
everything is fine until you try to live of your art, i have to work at a school for 3 days a week and 2 days at home in order to provide. other than that, it's great living like this
>checked out 4 books from the library on Perspective Drawing
>skim all of them
>the most recent one from 2011 has a final chapter called "Perspective on the Computer".
>says that setting up 3d objects and boxes in sketchup gives you perfect perspective every time. Also, the perspective tool in photoshop gives him gud results
What am I supposed to do /ic/? Drawing tons of perspective lines manually or doing it with 3d?
Both, bitch!!!
>>2491478
what's important isn't how you get to something but whether you fundamentally understand why it works
the only reason to do things the hard way is to try to understand how something works at it's most basic levels; manual control from beginning to end ensures that you understand it through and through. If you already understand the subject, there would be no reason to not use perspective tools to save both time and effort. For example, you could manually go in and put texture in a digital painting with a small hard round brush or you could just make a fucking splatter brush and do the same job in a shorter amount of time. But, someone who doesn't know how to effectively place texture will be no better at using the splatter brush than using the round brush.
>>2491482
why both? He said that 3d programs can quickly and easily transform any pixel into any perspective you want
How they did/can we do this old printer effect?
I'm speaking about those little dots.

How to draw seductive eyes without making the character look retarded?
I have been working on a Mistborn themed tattoo and was wondering what you guys think so far. Its not finished yet so i would love feedback and ideas.

is there anything more uninspired and desperate. its gotten so bad that it is now rebellious to not have one.
I want to hear from those of you that chose art as a means of making a living. Im wondering wether you think the negatives outweigh the positives. Wether youre actually happy with what youre doing.
Gonna keep bumping till someone answers

Most NEET losers populating this board dream of making $1000 on patreon and living from making porn commissions and spending 10h/day drawing.
Ask yourself how mentally limited they are and then try imagine those guys and their lives in next 5, 10 and 15 years.
Oh and btw, main reason why most people here won't "git gut" is exactly this - living shit, unremarkable existences where they don't even get the basics because all they see is shit and struggle. I mean, how can you appreciate forms of human body when ultimately you hate people and don't want to interact with them?
Hey /ic/ fellow art fag here. Let me tell you how I fucked up.
> be me
> finals week at college right now
> have to cast something for my final in sculpture
> bring in a bunch of flowers and interesting shit
> proffessor shits all over my objects, they're too hard to cast
> I kinda knew that but I wanted it to be a challenge
> asks if I have any better ideas
> say I saw a dead bird on my way here, but I thought it would be too gross to cast
> he makes me go get it
> I bring it back and he loves it
> mfw I realize this dead bird is my final project
> he tells me I need to find a place to freeze it so I can cast it
> boyfriend lives on campus close to art building
> text him, hey, I'm going to put a dead bird in your freezer
> badidea.mp4
> boyfriend flips
> I'm fucking dumb
> autist brain didn't think it would be a problem for some reason
> inb4 should have asked first
> didn't actually put it in there but he's still pissed
> boyfriend still ignoring me 24 hours later
> fuck
> don't want to cast the bird anymore
> proffessor going to destroy me if I bring in something else next class
> fuckedhard.webm
So /ic/ what should I do so that I don't have to cast this fucking dove anymore. Help me. This is the worst week to get in a fight with boyfriend, and I know he wont want to see my final piece if I do actually cast it.
>>2492504

Bird is currently in my freezer after I found a ride back to my apartment yesterday after initial fuck up...

What...
You have 10 minutes to make a better job than this artist while preserving the same feelings this expression is trying to convey.
Is that from a wikihow page?
>>2481069
>while preserving the same feelings this expression is trying to convey.
Retarded? Cause I think he nailed it.
>>2481069
hahaha
how do I learn to draw "inorganic" material?
I'm pretty good at drawing humans, animals, plants, landscapes.
But when I try to draw buildings or technology, it looks like fucking garbage.
You have to be much more precise in your perspective. Ironically, even though artificial structures are usually much simpler, they can be more challenging to draw because everything has to be on point.
>he can't draw inorganic material
what the fuck this is like skipping leg day
>>2495464
Scott robertson. Just grind, but its super-satisfying.
Do some sight-size and then you can combine the techniques.
Anyone have the full version of this?

Here's some more since you love it so much op.
i've been drawing about a year and a half now and i'm just curious, do you think i have a chance to go pro in the next few years?
I'd love to do art for MTG
according to your xp bar, i'd say 6-7 years
good thing skill is a concrete measurement
>>2496188
A lot can happen in the next few years op, at the moment though it's not looking very good. Perspective and anatomy wise it's super messy. Don't forget your basics and learn them properly.
I spent the last 15 minutes writing a long winded statement about motivations being in the right place and having a job as a main goal being mis-guided but fuck man I dunno, we're all different, who am I to say what you should or shouldn't strive toward?
Anyway, you've got a long way to go. Honestly about 8 years at the least if you work hard at it. You might be at the point where you haven't yet discovered how much there is to learn to become a "good" artist so that may seem like a long time but trust me, there's a lot to learn and a lot for you to figure out about yourself and your art. From my own personal experience I can confirm this and i think I'm what you'd call a "good" artist, If you were to look through my gallery my art from 8 years ago looks about on par with what you've provided.
So I would say don't worry about striving toward a job at the moment, don't even think about it. Focus on improving and finding enjoyment in that process. If you don't enjoy the process of learning and drawing for your own satisfaction you won't want to stick with it. Beyond that, you just have to keep going.
One piece of advice that always helped me is that with every picture you do, every single one, you need to challenge yourself. Strive for a ratio of 60% what you think you're comfortable with and 40% things you find very challenging. IF you feel like you fucked up that 40%, try it again with different subject matter etc. If you fuck up again, move on to something else for the time being and come back to the other later.
