I've been trying for so long to try to make something original and this is as far as I have gotten. I have no idea how I am going to make anything definitive or interesting that doesn't look like a cheap copy of a prexisting artist/style.
I need to be able to make something consistent and streamlined with what I have established with my doodle here.
>>2504234
I don't know if you're a beginner but if you are then beware of the danger that exists if you create your style so early. When you don't know the basics and you're trying to make a style, it will pretty much lock you. You won't be able to draw in any other style. You have to learn the boring shit first then you'll have plenty of inspiration to create your own unique way of drawing.
Here's what you need to do:
-Learn the basics
-Use reference
-Learn how to draw realistically
-Never compare your work to others
After you do this, your style will naturally pop out.
>>2504725
What do you do if you've been drawing for years on end and have overstylized works? do you just start anew and keep your stylized doodles on the side as you do fundamentals, or are you screwed?
You should be focusing on learning to draw and familiarizing yourself with the fundamentals FIRST, before trying to come up with your own 'style.' That will come with time.
I just couldn't let go of this masterpiece of a book without it being rated.
the band and the tutorial doesn't look too bad (who am i kidding it does) but DAMN, that head gives me 6th grade art class flashbacks

You can even draw your very own vehicles
good
If you can't see a picture in your mind's eye, you can't become good at drawing from imagination.
Do you agree?
P.s. don't misunderstand the difference between vizualization and imagination.
>>2504632
You just need to be able to see one step ahead. You don't need to see the end product perfectly from the start. Most artists just have a vague idea of the end result, then they are able to just consistently build slowly upon what they already have on the canvas towards the general direction they want.
>>2504643
Which means you have to visualize. 1 step ahead, 5 steps a head or 100 steps ahead.
>>2504667
Uh, yeah, you do need to visualize at least a bit. No shit. Either you draw from reference in which case you draw what you see, or you draw without reference and you need to be able to draw what you think of. It's pretty obvious.
Was Van Gogh bad at constructing and perspective or did he knowingly break the rules?
both?
knowingly. Look at the angle of those paintings on the wall. He could have easily made them straight up and down, lining up with the corner of that wall, but he decided not to.
I think van gogh paintings look like shit but it's pretty obvious his style is intentional.
>>2499911
No, paintings used to commonly be mounted to the wall at an angle.
What do you guys think of my painting, any crits welcome

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.
AVOID asking unrelated questions, There is a question thread for that.
Visit the usual "Art book Thread" to find your desired books.
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Post any OC, references, tips, favorites, experience, anything related to pixel art. Also if you're interested in pixel art I recommend @Pixel_Dailies. I'll upload some OC to start off
if i draw 8 hours and stretch, can i develop any hand/wrist injuries? Im really scared!
>>2506583
you ding-a-ling, you posted a chart that would alleviate the symptoms/issues caused by repetitive motion. do that.
>>2506585
I think he means that even by doing those, he'll only be resistant, not immune.
>>2506583
Dude, everyone here is trying to making their drawings better and you're talking about if you would be injured from drawing too long?
sigh
Here's your answer:
No, you'll be fine. I draw 5 hours every day I'm fine.
Is there a way to become more positive about your own work? I believe I'm a bit above average, I've done commissions, people online like my stuff and I see it posted regularly, yet I hate my own work and every time I post a drawing I get caught up in the small imperfections and nearly have a panic attack. I've become so afraid with quality and the fear of being judged that I'm nearly drawing any more.
I want to get to a point where I can accept my shortcomings, not get hung up on them, and learn from them, but I also don't want to become blinded to my own mistakes and become a Dobson or the like.
If anyone has any advice or know some material to help me get past this I'd really appreciate it.
Work as hard as you can, so that, while you might not even like what you've made, you can honestly say: "Well I did my best, so I've at least gotten better for having made something not so good".
>>2504230
It's probably very individual. I'm highly critical of my own work, and feel like I'm completely blind to my own style and the positive qualities of my art.
I'm a perfectionist and obsess over details that probably don't matter, and I have no idea what other people see when they look at my art. I rarely get negative criticism and people seem to really like my art, and while I have a ballpark idea about where my skill level is at, I really don't know where others would place me.
What I see when I look at my art also depends on my state of mind. Most of the time, I just see boring, dull art with no style, almost like a poorly drawn technical drawing. At other times I can look at my art, and see a fun, vibrant style that's skillfully drawn and full of personality. But the worst part is the blindness you get when you work on something for a long while. I might draw something I feel happy about at the time, but when I come back and look at it a while later, all the flaws I couldn't see stand out and it looks like shit. In the end, I can't trust my ability to judge my own art, because it varies so much.
Bottom line, I can't help you, and have no idea how get out of this state of mind, if it's possible at all.
>>2504240
I've gotten that advice here before when finishing a commission and it definitely helps me get stuff out, I just wish it would also improve my disposition to my work.
>>2504243
It's like listening to myself. I think the worst part is that blindness. You get your skills up to a certain point and then you just become blind to what's good or bad about your art and it leaves you in this nervous empathy. It's like you can't see the whole picture.
can anyone give me any pointers/critique/comment regarding this autoportrait i did in manga studio and photoshop?
this is the first time i actually tried when doing artwork and I'd really like to keep improving
for reference, here's the original file without color adjustment

read the sticky
So, I'm doing some freelance work for this guy; mostly shirt designs and some comic pages. Everything has been just fine with the guy, I had no problems at all until a few days ago, he mailed me asking if I could remove my signature for the cover artwork I did for him. I don't want to remove my signature and we didn't talk about anything regarding this issue in the past; I also can't understand why my signature shouldn't be on the cover being the excuse that my cover is "for a special edition of the comic without title or names".
Any advice on this? It really got me by surprise.
>>2505897
making him pay more for this
>>2505897
Post your work. Are you even charging him?
>>2505897
To be honest, signatures don't belong on covers. Most covers don't have them, you should get credited for it though unless you agree to it for more money.
Most high schools have an ap art class right? At the end you have a exam you take by submiting you best pieces and let some proffesors or something look at them and then tell you your score. Does the score even matter? On what principals do they grade it? Do you think they are bias towards different styles and mediums (Etc)? What are your opinions on the test?
>>2504663
There's going to always be bias in any judging of art since in order to judge it you need to lay down set criteria, and doing that automatically favours some things and excludes others. There's literally no objective way to measure the value of art, and the sooner you accept this the better.
I wouldn't overthink it though. If you want to get into art school they will look at your entrance portfolio and maybe your GPA. Whether or not you got a good score in AP class, or whether you even did AP art is pretty irrelevant as far as I know.
>wasting your time at AP
lol
i took it in high school, i think i got 5/6 or something
they basically want observational drawings ie still lives portraits and landscapes done in traditional media. you have to do 20 drawings with 10 of them needing a cohesive theme. mine was tools because literally everything is a tool.
i dont think the ap has helped me with anything though, i think if you want to go to normal colleges it helps but art colleges just care about the quality of your portfolio but it differs from a case by case basis so im not sure
