How do you guys approach learning from a book? The non-beginner shit that doesn't say, "Hey go do this and come back." I'm not sure how to balance the reading and application aspects of it.

There are books that explain techniques and ideas but don't lay out specific exercises for you to do to learn them. In those cases you have to make your own ways to apply the ideas that are being explained in the book. So how do you go about doing that.

Do you read an entire chapter, then go back and copy images that are presented as examples? Do you read a few pages, then try copying? Do you not copy at all but instead find some suitable references photos and try to apply the ideas? Do you not use any reference at all? Do you not even read and instead just look at the pictures and try to figure out what they did?

People do things differently. My current way of doing things is not suiting me, so I wanted to hear from others what worked for them.

Depends on the material you're studying and the book itself. If the book doesn't have exercises I think taking notes and sketching as you read the book is as good as a suggestion as I can give. Don't just copy the book by rote into your sketchbook, though. Summarize the big points the book makes in your own words and sketches so you're forced to digest it and apply it. Mindless copying is a terrible way to learn, and not putting anything down onto paper is worse.

Does anyone have a link to pirated photoshop brushes? I think I saw them in the mega a while back, but it's not in this one anymore.

I don't have a picture of the Michelangelo book currently, but here is a quick picture I took of the Leonardo book from a while ago which is just as high quality.
