Yep... It's still a WIP... I'll eventually need to resize this piece to make room for the flame effects, and maybe add a couple more weapons or so. OH! BTW, did I mentioned those nipple-thingys are flamethrowers???

Like, making things more realistic. (I purposefully made the hair shitty like that since I don't know how to draw curly hair. forgive me.) What bothers me is her nose, chin and general face proportions. When I tried going realistic it looks fine on paper but all fucked up on camera so I keep thinking something is wrong my eyes.

I'm reading Scott Robertson's How to Draw and I can't get past the first exercise. I'm trying to get my lines straight but I'm not sure how straight they need to be. How long did you all practice drawing straight lines? Isn't this one of the most important steps to gittin gud?

You'll be practicing drawing straight lines all the time anyway.

Don't break your head over it, keep drawing but before starting your work just do some line warm up.
After a while in how to draw he recommends doing grids (I think) so you can do those too.
Either way those lines are pretty good already.

How much time should a man spend on studies? What is considered the perfect amount of time for an advanced value study? Is it better to make 3-4 drawing a day but advanced or 20 but quite simple? How do you set it all up for steady, balanced improvement?

Depends on what you're working on.
I mean really, it's a study, not a finished piece. If you're concentrating on value or rendering, just hack at it until you get those downpat.

ok i struggled like fucking hell. now i think i can pretty much make something out of this. lets say it end up being cool. What can I do with it? like a port for movie-shit artist or anything? I worry you aren't doing design efficient way. Here, get out of drawing for a bit and sacrifice 1h for this Scott Robertson lecture, it will save your life:

Try developing your workflow, if you want to go bottom-up or from up to bottom in complexity.
Honestly for the thing you are trying to do I would try getting some simple 3D mock-up model or even import some free one and then export it as a base for paintover.

I don't even need to click on that to know it's bullshit. You can overlay any lines you want on images and some lines are going to happen to match up with things.
If you are relying on formulas for composition you will get formulaic results. The old masters didn't do shit like that.
