Is there something as a definite style for everyone ?
Or can you, if you try hard enough going out of your zone of confort, compare with people who ony did this specific style ?

Just realised that it didn't mean a thing.
More simply : If you are shit at drawing/painting in a specific style (say renaissance for example), is it possible to REALY git gut at it ?

How are you dealing with the feeling that you have to learn to draw for a few years to make the stuff you want? I want to draw interesting, well rendered characters, but I cant do that with my basic knowledge at the moment. Doing only studies takes the whole fun from me, it becomes a "must do" thing.

So with the Winter Ball coming up, I think it's time that a board-tan thread is made. Make OC and discuss shipping of anthropomorphisms of 4chan boards.

Post a reference list of "board-tans", treat it like art prompts and keep board politics out of it, you might get some responses.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Why do all artists feel the need to be political? Is there something about art that makes those who pursue it lean more towards the left? Will someone be ostracized in the art community for nonconformity to this?

Inb4 you tell me to go to /pol/. I wanted to ask here because it's related to art and many of you have an unique perspective on this.

Also, what do you think about Simon Stålenhag's work?

>Why do all artists feel the need to be political?
It's not just artists. People in general want to spout their opinions online. Right now it's easy to hop on the anti-Trump bandwagon too to get easy likes and praise.

>Also, what do you think about Simon Stålenhag's work?
He's very good. I don't really relate to the 80's nostalgia stuff he does because I didn't grow up then, but I can appreciate what he's doing. I like that he is doing his own thing and his art isn't just ripping off somebody else or following current trends.
>>
>>2741645
Pop culture has always influenced art.

Even Michealangelo painted the faces of influential figures into his work. It just happens. Actual political leaning comes with the times, it's been pretty left for the past century when the dadaist movement and popart made nonconformity hip.

>Simon Stålenhag's
S'okay. I've always liked matte paintings though, and his work is pretty reminiscent of that.
>>
>>2741649
It looks like Jakub Rozalski is ripping off his whole theme of big robots in the background with little people in the foreground.

Why anon? Look at all those depression threads on /ic EVERY fucking day.
Why do you guys force yourself into drawimg and painting if you don't even like it. You don't enjoy process. You like to see other's progresses, other's drawings and painting, you ask others what YOU should study and draw..

Why do you keep forcing yourself? I bet at least half of you who force themself into doing something (ilkustration/animation/..) keep on doing so just because you allready a lot of hours in.

You can still stop anon and find what ACTUALLY interest you, not what you like to watch, what interests others or how you could impress people.

Everyone CAN learn technical skill of drawing, since it's just that. But even if you reach the skill set you made for your goal, when you will reach it, you still won't enjoy the drawing itself.

Sometimes I do enjoy it, and sometimes I have a really awesome epiphany and impress myself with my work, sometimes it is a grind and sometimes it isn't. I want to make it my career. You think a stonemason or a construction worker or a gymnast doesn't have "those days"? I think what holds me and others back on /ic/ is that we don't have irl friends or a community pushing us so we congregate here
>>
Just to make it clear.. not all of you are forcing yourself into something you don't even enjoy, into something you are not passionate about.
To you i'm saying - and i know i don't even need to say that - just keep it on. Do what you enjoy doing
>>
>>2741232

It's not "those days" i'm talking about. There is nothing wrong with "those days", "art-blocks" or however you want to call it.

I'm talking about people who have to force themself 90% of days in year to draw.
I'm talking about people who ask "how do i stop watching youtube, anime, playing games etc. And draw insted".
I'm talking about people, whi rarely, if ever find drawing enjoying. It's just forced "pain" for them, because they don't even love to draw and deep down in themself they know that. They just hope one day, when they get skilled, they will enjoy progress itself

so you guys study anatomy right? what makes a male and female face attractive? i'm talking generally, of course. high cheekbones, brow thickness, double eyelids, that sort of thing.

Draw a lot of attractive faces from reference and try to break down what makes certain shapes and proportions attractive or unattractive. I've found it really helps to erase and re-draw features over and over and discover how long or short you can make a nose before it looks bad etc. There is no one simple formula, you have to study it until you internalize it. Eventually you will instinctually know where to place features to make a face attractive.

Since no one gave you a direct answer yet,
It's symmetry and balance of facial features.

Really nice. Are you using much ref on these? My only crit for this one is that the trees seem like the branches are too thick and uniform. It would be nicer I think if you used smaller brushes or tried to get more specific shapes that reflect how it grows.

>>2740396
This is close to being good, but it feels sort of plastic and stiff. If you relaxed his pose a bit, made things feel more natural and unified, fixed the feet which are out of perspective, and then maybe edited the background slightly so the cast shadow and colours are correct, you could have a nice image.

Why is art so fulfilling? I find it difficult to relate with non-artist normies who spend their time consuming tv and videogames all day instead of creating.

Even if art doesn't get me anywhere just being able to put my world and creation on paper feels amazing, I guess i can connect with writers because they have a similar dream

>>

sounds like you just want to be a snob about it. you consumed media just as much leading up to being a creator too you know. you probably are an artist BECAUSE you consumed so much up to this point.

The "sheep" "plebs" "normies" you look down on are getting that fulfillment of creation elsewhere (jobs, kids, etc) where as artists would rather put those creational energies into their work. doesn't make one right or wrong. if you circlejerk all day with "artists" you'll hit a creative wall.

Why is every artist in the world drawing Overwatch? It is such a waste of life and time.

Because in 100 years, when people look back at art history, they will see all these crap Overwatch art works and see them as insignificant piece of crap that has no impact or meaning to the world.

>>
>>2736097

Actually it's more probable people in 100 years will dig "Overwatch" and the art related to it than some random still life or head made in charcoal.
>>
>>2736097
100 years? Such is the quantity of work since the advent of the internet that even the most awe inspiring contemporary pieces get forgotten in 1.

None of this matters. Do what you like. Pop culture has always heavily influenced works anyway.
