What's the best way to simplify this shit?

Do I have to just keep drawing Pelvises until my brain is putty?

I can never free-hand one and have it look exactly like a pelvis from imagination at any angle.

You said it.

Yes.

You will be able to now.

Can't I just make it a cylinder and draw the land marks?

I mean, it'll mean slight issues with muscle insertions, but can it be done easily?

Hey, wondering if anyone has a link to these or a zip file of a lot of michelangelo works

Textures? It's been awhile since I've seen one of these threads, and I always enjoyed looking through them to see different takes on textures. Let's see some textures.

Good luck OP.
The last time I made this thread, people were just dissing the template and no one contributed anything.
>>
>>2733396
Usually I diss the entire idea of painting textured cylinders like this. It's not a good way to learn materials in my opinion, and I also believe most of /ic/ is not at a level that they should be bothering with this type of exercise.
>>
>>2733398
What is a good way to learn materials in your opinion? No one took on the circle/ball template either. Besides, you wouldn't have to restrict yourself to those lines, just think of them like placeholders if you will.
And you can always try and then take a step back if you see the exercise is too hard for you. Who knows, might be fun.

Does anyone have any suggestions on crosshatching with pens? I don't want something as simple as just showing me diff patterns, but not so complex that its like heres an example of a perfectly rendered human. I'd just like to be able to shade primitives with pens right now.

https://www.amazon.com/Rendering-Pen-Ink-Techniques-Illustrators-ebook/dp/B00IW4XVOI

I thought maybe this book but can't find a free version to see if theres anything even good inside.

Thoughts?

It's not the best, but it can certainly help you get started, look for Alphonso Dunn on youtube, he has a few videos talking about cross hatching and some good advice.
Then watch someone like Dan Nelson working on the hatching.

It's all I got for now. I'm also looking for good material on inking.

Is Michael Hampton tier muscular simplification alright for an artist to do, or is it simply damaging over a long period of time?

As in deleting the drawing of the insertion of the adductor, pectinus, etc, and simply clumping all of the muscles together and making it "one" muscle.
16 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Superficially, yes. Especially in the learning process if you're a beginner - I see way too many (including some on this board) that obsess over understanding each and every little muscle and how it works when they can't draw a box in perspective well.
>>
>>2736820
It depends on how relevant it is to the final drawing, dude. If the knowledge of anatomy is in your visual library, you don't need to peddle it out when it's not going to affect anything in the final product.

I may get flak for this, but I think Hampton is just a worse Steve Huston (Hampton was his student for some time iirc).

Hampton is good for understanding anatomical placement, certainly, but when compared to the more simple technique Huston advocates for (similar to Vilppu's technique), I think there is no contest.

Pic related, and I don't want to strawman Hampton, but this is the only painting of his I could find.

should i upgrade/pirate my CS5?

Please don't. CC is getting more bloated every update. CS5/6 is fine as they are.
>>
>>2735531
I use CC. Haven't had any problems with it and it looks sleeker and has more tools than my old pirated outdated version from before. I don't mind paying the small subscription fees for it either, I feel I owe them for having used a pirated version so many years.

Anyone have horrifying memories from art school?

>Taking 1 year art fundies course.
>go to life drawing almost everyday after classes.
>one day I walk into the studio with my tools and newprint, it's a full room and eveybody is about to start.
>decided to sneek a drink into the room(everyone did it) . food and drinks are prohibited
>find a good seat, place my tools and set my newsprint on the saddle, turn around to put my drink on the table.
>spill the drink, orange crush, full can, all over a pile of handed in art work, 3rd year illustration work.
>pop continues to poor all out and over the papers, can rolls and fall onto the floor crashing and now all over the floor is pop.
>I go into shock, everyone looks at me, I grab my stuff and run the fuck out of the studio.
>I blacked out after that.
>I have been social anxiety and paranoia ever since the accedent occured. that was 5 years ago.

>Running like a pussboi.
>Putting a drink near people's assignments.

So you quit the class or what? You didn't attend anymore? Was it the last day? What the fuck happened?

Anon, I hope you've at least gotten good by now.

Pic related, it's you.
>>
>>2734448
I stayed for the remainder of the year. I got a lot of shady looks the next day, after the accident.

I'm pretty good now. It raped my soul and I felt like the black sheep after that. No chance.

holy fuck! that was me alright.

Thanks for telling me what NOT to do at art school.

what is the point in these small cintiqs when laptops with big screens and pressure sensitive styluses cost less?? it just makes 0 sense to me

Cintiqs never made any sense to me.
I think it only looks like a good idea for people who define themselves by the products they own.

As someone that owns that device's precursor the 12WX I can comfortably say that it doesn't make sense at all. It's a smaller drawing surface than an Intuos Large on a smaller screen than you're likely using now, for way more money. If you're getting a Cintiq you go big or you go home.
>>
>>2733911
post examples and I'll tell you why they're worse than cintiqs

So should one study after teacher he prefer or should you study all of them?
28 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2730747
No single teacher can cover everything perfectly, so it's best to combine several. Which ones you combine is a bit of personal preference and will depend upon what you wish to learn.
>>
>>2730747

..and if one should study after more teachers, should he study them at the same time or firstly finish studies of one teacher and then move on other teacher?

What are those unwriten "rules of proper approaching to art fundamental materials"?

Bebause i, like a lot of you have 30+ books on anatomy, perspective, composition from more than 10 different teachers (most popular Bammes, Hoghart, Vilppu, Bridgman,..)
>>
>>2730749

Well its not that much in what i wish to learn than what we have to learn (all anatomy, perspective, forms, light and color, composition, storytelling..) in order to have proper skill set to apply it to our work.

I for example preffer Bridgman over Loomis but i assume i should study Loomis too?

>>

Between working out, sketching/painting and my dumb volunteer gig I haven't managed to play videogames in a while.

Which sucks, because I like them, but every time I go to play like, Summon Night or Sin and Punishment there's just that thought that I should be banging out sketchbook stuff or a new painting in the back of the head.

Anyway videogames or general leisure isn't the devil or anything. But if you're incapable of balancing your life, I suppose cutting them out will do you good.
