Is it better to be drawing 2min poses or 5min+ poses? I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to learn much when doing it in such a short amount of time?

>>
>>2737809

You're supposed to build it up. Let's say I want to draw a knight brandishing his sword.

Draw 4-5 quick poses that are just enough to get the idea down. Pick what you think is the best of the bunch and develop that as far as you can. Use what you know of anatomy, drapery etc. This goes for creatures, machines etc.

I feel like I'm losing confidence, I'm able to draw from imagination some figures that look decent, and then the next couple of days, I don't think it's that "I forgot" but I just can't seem to draw it.

>>

drawing with ref vs not drawing with ref? Don't worry, the more time you spend drawing, the better you're getting, man. Practice is all about ugly sketches you'll never show anyone, forget about making pretty pictures if it's practice.
>>
>>2736939
What do you show people then?

Kind of a strange request but I suffer from REALLY BAD eye floaters and so I have a difficult time reading many of the PDF scans posted here. The somewhat crappy scan quality mixed with the brightness of my screen really demoralizes me from wanting to read a lot of these things even though they look like great resources. I don't have as much of an issue with native digital books or videos so are there any you guys recommend as being great?

I'd like to learn as much as possible before my eyes get worse so I can keep drawing long as possible. I would really really appreciate it because even though my vision is failing I still want to pursue this until the very last moment I can see. Thanks in advance.

Are there any art books or decent videos series' that include a curriculum for getting mediocre artists over that barrier into "gud" territory? I'm at the point where I have sold art and won a competition with a picture, but I'm still slow and there are a few foundational things I'll screw up. I want to get to the point where I don't need to think so much about how to draw the thing, but the thing itself, and after reading all of Loomis, Vilppu, and various other artist's work, as well as doing numerous studies, I feel like I need a solid schedule and lessons... for as much as I've been drawing I feel like I should be up there with the high tier artists on this board, but I'm still struggling to just stay afloat and please people in request threads any more.

Try watching Feng zhu videos, specially the later ones. They give you a good idea of what an art benchmark is, aka it gives you a clear goal on what to pursuit and how to do it.

You don't really have to land a job or anything, just be as good as them
>>
>>2737710
Yep, that's where I want to be. I don't care to much about a job so much as I just want to enjoy the process of creating art again instead of feeling like I'm wrestling with the picture. My visual library is also pretty limited being mostly on character design and anatomy, but like I said, I don't really excel at either. Really, the thing that gets me by is I'm good at emulating other people's styles. I've been at this for 5 years, so I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just not putting in the pencil mileage and not covering the right material.

And on a side note, I'm not complaining or trying not to, so much as provide more details on my personal issues to maybe help people pinpoint what I need to improve.

Been crawling through these board some years already, but in the last 6 months I didn't get into the chan.

What strikes me the most is the change that has undergone in this forum in such a small period of time. It seems that now the dominant way of thinking is that one will never "gitgud", that there's no sense in grinding and that talent is the real holy grail of drawing/painting.
I know there has always been people in this mindset, but it is the first time I feel it has become the dominant way of thinking in this board.

¿Why do you think is this? ¿Newcoming of millenials into the board or another demographic change in its userbase? ¿The failure of a whole generation of d/ic/ks that never "made it" after sacrificng a lot? ¿A change in society as a whole, with a second wave of nihilism and cynicism making its way through?

As a failed d/ic/k: I don't think it's a matter of talent, it's a matter of having proper guidance and passion for it since you're a kid. I've learnt that you can't have drawing as a hobby, and that unless you learn it as a kid with shitloads of free time, you're pretty much screwed. I would compare it to learning a language: the only reason I'm able to write this despite not being from an english speaking country is because I spent my youth reading the harry potter books in english, looking for information about vidya which eventually led me to english websites, joining an english speaking wow server. I'm still practicing, right now. There are tons of people in my country who want to learn english, who join expensive academies to learn the language, but since they haven't ever used it in a pressure-free setting and can't do the language "grind" naturally, will never make it beyond a very basic level that doesn't allow for full communication. The same could be said for graphical expression, if you have to force yourself to grind for x hours instead of it just coming naturally to you as part of your daily routine, you probably aren't cut out for drawing. If you read about the life of people who successfully learnt to draw as adults, it's either people who were able to drop everything and dedicate at least 8 hours a day for years to learning to draw, or people with an artist spouse who taught them, and they incorporated being taught by them into their day to day.

>be patient
>be patient
>patience is the key

Every fucking time. Only people without ambition are patient, because they know they got 50 years to learn to draw circles. Those who want to be the best cant be patient - they have to be good after days of work. They strive to be legends, where the fuck is time for patience? You wait 30 days so you can draw a head correctly? It's too much fucking time, you should have done that in 1-2 days.

Patience is a meme for weak, pathetic people who don't make any noticeable progress.

Are there any good books out there that teach how to draw all the different kinds of clothing, and how various fabrics and materials look/fit/stretch/hang in real life?

I find myself relying on references. But to me, that's like drawing a figure without knowing how the underlying anatomy works. I'd really prefer to have a theoretical understanding of what's going on with clothing.

The best resources for artists that I've found are too generic, not getting much into different materials and ways clothes are put together. I'm sure I've been looking in the wrong places.

That's a great reference for how different articles of clothing hang on the body, thank you very much!

Now if only there was one about how different materials work... leather vs cotton vs silk vs woven vs knit vs...

Thanks again!

Where do people find these 3d muscular models?
It looks like you're even able to exaggerate different muscles.

It's from posemaniacs, it's a free website.
You can't exaggerate different muscles, this picture looks like someone just painted over the screenshots.
