going through same shit RN. I fear that i have chosen art just to keep being my typical disorganized, inconstant self, instead of adhering to any routine or responsibility.
we wont make it. You will get back to useless shit anytime soon and the cycle will continue
Is it worth joining a local arts center? My local one has classes, exhibits, all that jazz and it's not too expensive
It entirely depends on what you want to learn. Is there a class it has that specifically is geared towards one of your weaknesses? Go for it.
>>2743598
Bored and lonely? Yes you are. Go for it.
What type of painting is this called?
Me and my friend made this when we were 12 one summer day and we didn't really know any concepts of art or anything like that (still don't really) .
I have some closer pics of certain parts if you guys dig this and want to see the smaller details

abstract expressionism. really, really shitty abstract expressionism.
>>2743224
Ok I'm sorry. How can I be better? Even it sucks I'm always gonna keep that one exactly as is out of nostalgia and love , and cause it was with my bro!!!!
Can't imagine there are rules for the abstract but I would still like to learn anything
>>2743226
look at the pic I posted. they didn't use every color of the rainbow, randomly. they have a cohesive palette, colors that repeat throughout the image and create a sort of rhythm. the layers of paint are distinct, not mixed together into mud, and there is a general sense of movement to the composition.
I can't even start a drawing when studying. Every head I do is either too big or too small. I can do pretty close facial features but it falls apart if its placed on a smaller head that it was intended to. How do you measure shapes for them to be 100% correct?
Post work
>>2741796
If it's wrong just erase it and correct it. There's no magic to it. You can also do a light underdrawing for the proportions then go over it darker with more specifics and accuracy.

so i would like to study art composition, to break down artworks into their various parts to learn the various building blocks. whats the best way to do this? is there somewhere online like where a university puts up lectures on this stuff or are there any good books that come to mind?
>>2740770
Most information on composition is either flat out wrong like all those golden rectangle overlays, or it is formulaic like Edgar Payne's book. Just rely on your gut instinct and do lots of thumbnailing.
>>2740770
Compositional rules are the holy grail of bs.
If it looks good, it looks good. Experiment a bunch.
>>2740774
How to get Payne's book.
I'd like to see his approach.
Any dl?

>they contact me saying that they decided to go with me
>I am now tempted to politely decline the offer and make something up like I got offered another project
I know I am being salty and unprofessional at the end but should I go through with it and ignore their unintentional rudeness?
I'm at a stage where I make enough commission money that I can decline working with horrible clients, but at the same time I can see why this can be seeing as a petty reason to do so.
>>2743216
>$150
heh
>>2743216
>unintentional rudeness
Of course you should take the offer. You're an artist, right? Aren't you practically begging for money daily?
Hello everyone. Recently I've been selling overwatch prints and other merch (nothing nsfw) and, unsurprisingly, it's been going very well. I'm doing commissions on the side and selling prints has been a great addition to my income.
However, like every other blizz fanboy, I've always wanted to work at blizzard. I'm working towards that goal, and I think I'll have a fair chance in 3-4 years. Will selling fanart jeopardize my chances of getting a job with them? I know they're pretty strict with copyright.
TL;DR have I fucked up by selling fanart of a company I want to work for?
>>2743199
you can always swap your gender and claim they're thansphobes if they get that up
>>2743199
I have no idea what Blizzard's stance on things are, but presumably a company would be happy to hire someone who already is well versed with their IPs and has a large fan following.
If you're worried though just stop selling anything that infringes on them. By the time you get good enough to have a serious shot at getting work for them it will all be so far in the past they shouldn't care.
>>2743203
I guess you're right, I'll just stop selling and concentrate on my studies.
I did enjoy making the merch; but I don't want to do fan art forever, so it's probably for the best

I'm really excited, fellow d/ic/kheads. Mark Chong has always been an art hero of mine, and this new vid of his really cuts to the heart of what drawing really is. I feel that this is a really good resource for all the beginners who keep asking how to draw and don't seem to be able to grasp the fundamentals.

So, I finished watching it, and one thing that bugged me throughout the whole video. Why is his OS like from the 2000s? This is a 2016 video right?
Aside from that, I already knew all the things he said so it felt like common sense, but perhaps other people don't know?
He also talks in a shaky manner that what he says can be interpreted in different ways. I've never heard of him, but he must be good if he teaches at AAU.
How do I draw like Kuvshinov Ilya?
Practice.
