So, I had one idea.
What if I combine both traditional animation with cut out animation in the same shit.
Like...
see my picture.
What I mean is that the body and rigid parts, like limbs are done using cut out animation, but the really important details like fingers and hair are done traditionally.
This was done in 2014, going to make a new test.
I don't think it looks like crap, and I think it's a great idea.
Is there a name for this way of doing animation?

Although darkest dangeon uses a similar technic to make its characters walk.
If you are not willing to make a decent work with regular frame by frame animation you could as well use 3d.

Should I haggle over the rates?
I got contacted by a client I worked with last year. I have bumped up the rates a bit since then but he's asking to go with the old rate. I don't want to come off as desperate or unprofessional going back and fourth bargaining, since it's not a major difference.
I kind of enjoyed working with the dude and I didn't have any problems with him, but even then I felt that I was undercutting myself.

No, with digital you can sort of fake it with painting. To make a great painting, you need to master drawing though.

I'm planning to start working on a webcomic series. It's gonna be biweekly I guess. What does it take to achieve maximum consistency for beginners? Should I train and familiarize myself with my characters first or should I start right away and learn in the process?

Get started right ahead, do not worry about consistency yet. A lot of classics like Asterix did not have their signature style fully developed in their first release.
Consistency comes with consistent work. Focus on being producutive instead of worry about shit like this and your style will develop and mature

What I found useful in doing is sketch out a few pages beforehand, just to get the idea down, do some separate drawings of characters, expressions, then working on actual finished pages based on those.

What if we created an actual online competition presided by judges where you could earn cash prizes for winning?
It would be different from LAS and more meaningful. I would imagine that it would be held every 2 months and cost $3~5 to enter.
The categories would include Fine Art, Illustration, Concept Art/Fan Art, and Photography.
Winning the competition gives you a small share of vote as a judge in subsequent competitions. Popular vote also counts up to 40% of the judging score.
What do you think? Who might make a good judge?
