Is overclocking worth it /g/? Serious question I've never done it before
17 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
What are you trying to do and what CPU and gpu do you have
>>
>>55672530
Well I'm currently thinking about buying a GTX 1070 and i7 6700k, and mostly video game + record and render in game footage. Especially with DX12 on Win10 allowing better hyperthread usage I was thinking the i7 is worth the extra ~$80 and overclocking it would give me more value.

But my concern is mostly heat and electricity usages, I've read that overclocking increases the idle temp/power use by a lot so I'm a bit concerned with the 50w or whatever it might be just for simply existing
>>
>>55672518
Depends on your task, processor, cooling solution, and OCing headroom.

If youre on an older core2 or first/second gen i7 then absolutely, those chips were quite conservatively clocked and you can see 33-60% gains. Something newer is extremely lucky to get 15% (going from turbo boost, not base)

Lmao

Why are AMD cards so bad with power.
>>
Difference in architecture.

nvidia chose to optimize for serial que and use software que to make optimizations.
amd chose to optimize for parallel que and use hardware to optimize games

hardware option cost extra power usage. this is what you see
>>
amd and nvidia took different approaches to architecture .

those differences have pros and cons, one of the cons for amd is power consumption .

Hey Anons, I searched for a while and couldn't find any info on this.

In pic related, the terminal shows the file manager (or whatever window is behind it). On a live disk of Kali, though, the terminal sees right through whatever window is behind it.

So, how do I get the terminal to "see through" whatever window(s) are behind it? Thanks in advance.

First, you're a newfag
Second, that's because of display compositing. Turn it off and transparency becomes only to desktop

Basically what I want to do is turn an old guitar hero controller into a realish guitar. I'm replacing the internal micro-controller with an arduino uno. I'm planning out the program and would like some input. I'm hoping to assign the buttons different values that it could then print to the serial, while a python script on my laptop watches the serial port plays a value specific sound from .wav files. Any better way to accomplish this /g/?

>>
>>55671934
Why don't you just buy a real guitar?
A decent one only costs $500-ish and lasts forever.

only photo and video editing maybe.

watching anime, movies or youtube needs the content or bandwidth

gaming needs are gpu capable of delivering acceptable framerates at justifiable graphics settings

dpi scaling is shit on windows and once you go over FHD, everything seems unoptimised as shit, depending on your screensize though

the best and most budget friendly solution is to get a atleast 75hz ips/va panel which supports freesync

Netbooks evolved into the Chromebook which is actually useful and successful.
