Meh, it really shouldn't be complicated for some nerd to build a proper decentralised torrent based system.

The only reason it hasn't happened already is that kat and tpb and things exist so there's no reason for it. When it's needed it'll happen and movie industry will be back to square one.

Poland is a much wealthier (not to mention politically stable) country than Ukraine, which is why Ukrainians are basically Poland's Mexicans (shitloads of them working illegally in construction, farming, cleaning, babysitting etc.)

That said, if I were the KAT guy (rich and wanted by the US), the last place I'd go to is Poland, which can't get enough of sucking Uncle Sam's cock. Even the TFA says: "The U.S. Government has arrested the alleged owner of KickassTorrents" even though the dude was just arrested by the Polish police. There's no doubt in my mind he'll get extradited.

They're not going to get in the way of illegal behavior. A warrant was most likely issued. The thing Apple doesn't do is sell your info or unlock encrypted data. He could've logged into any service that had his name and address at that point, and ended with the same result.

the feds would be wasting their time going after you
catching the "mastermind" behind an "operation" (torrent site, drug cartel) is much more impressive and requires less resources than going after every single "conspirator" (everyone who downloaded a movie or bought drugs)
you're never gonna catch all the conspirators and it creates so much more hassle than one high-profile case
>>
>>55673566
irrelevant, you're still coming from the same IP, and if the TCP port numbers on your outgoing connections are sequential, they can use that as one way to narrow it down to you being on the same device, even if you're behind NAT.

zeronet but it's unusable because it requires an ID to upload things, and that ID tracks you across connections and IPs as well as being able to generate a new one every 6 hours, meaning only illegitimate users (spammers et al.) can actually do whatever they want, legitimate users get to be tracked and deanonymized.

Speaking of which, all you need to do to know the ID from which someone made a post is to edit the js that comes with the site, because sites are 100% js/html/css, and everyone has access to all of them. This allows you to reveal, on any site where it's possible to upload, to see who uploaded what when even if the default site display doesn't show a name or simply shows "anonymous" or other stylized names. There's a thread up on 0chan about that.

It's only slow because most torrents have 2 or 3 seeders and those guys are seeding hundreds of torrents. If you get a torrent that just came out and has a big swarm you can get things going fast enough to be usable. On GoT torrents I was able to get 500kB/s download. My connection limit is about 650kB/s so I'm not sure if a better connection would have done better. Still that's an hour of HEVC 720p in 17 minutes.

On smaller torrents that have 1-3 seeders I usually get about 20-50kB/s. The key to making this work is to plan ahead and have tons of torrents downloading at once. Also prioritizing files helps you have something to watch while the rest is downloading.

Also you can tune i2p to have a little less security to gain some speed. You're not a Best Korea party member leaking info to the CIA. You're some guy using i2p as a free vpn. I set my download hops down to 0 and my upload hops to 2. You don't get DMCA takedowns for downloading. You get it for hosting.
>>
>>55672993
There are torrents but they're absolutely massive (I think it's tb-sized) and they don't have enough seeds.

No, gnunet is way too slow to be usable. We need a technology in the style of ipfs or zeronet (which are as fast as your connection allows, for the most part), but non-shit (ipfs only allows static content, zeronet is broken in too many ways).

No, it would of course be much faster as more people use it but it's slow by design. It also has the same issue as ipfs in that it can only host static content, but for filesharing that's good enough. Compared to ipfs, it has better utilities in the first place (namely a distributed name system and a search function with tagging are already built-in), but it's simply way too fucking slow that people stop seeding before anyone could even find the file, let alone download it.

I feel like the analogy was more like "gay sex is illegal in saudi arabia, so why can the US extradite people from other countries for breaking US laws when saudi arabia can't extradite people from other countries for breaking saudi laws"

And the answer of course is that these countries signed an extradition agreement with each other because their laws were similar enough overall even if not the same on some subjects. Saudi Arabia obviously wasn't made part of this agreement because their laws are far too different

>Only way I see that happening is if you use 0 hops, i.e. 0 anonymity.

It can also happen if you're not an idiot and know how to edit a config file. I find that changing the hops doesn't change the download rate. The amount of seeder bandwidth is the limiting factor which is a function of i2p popularity.

However you should set your download to 0 hops. It saves i2p networking resources. You don't get DMCA take downs for downloading. You get them for hosting the content or helping others find the content. If you're not downloading captain picard 0 hop download 1 or 2 hop upload is the way to go.
