Some of you /g/amers must be using Wine, not all of the games on Steam have been ported yet.
What games do you play? What's your experience with Wine been like? Is the default install enough for what you need to do?
(sorry in advance if this belongs on /g/ but I'm a /g/entooman and I thought it was at least partly relevant here, no bully pls)

GPU passthrough is a thing these days
>>55666788
You mean with KVM?
You need 2 gpus for that I think, and I think many people who just want to play some old vidya from the 90s/00s will probably have just the 1 gpu.

Now I'm going to have to replace the thermal paste or something because fuck having it stay like this. Didn't pay £70 for a Noctua Meme cooler so it can be like this.
How are my fellow Brits and their /technology/ holding up in this heatwave we have right now?

what you have?
what would you recommend?

What you posted is pretty good.
I generally prefer click ones though, at least for those I carry on me because I always lose the cap, and ballpoint so you don't have to wait for the ink to dry. I'm thinking the Zebras F-301, 402 and 701 are pretty much the perfect pens on that aspect.
Though I generally roll with just about any free/promotional click pen I can find which is almost guaranteed to be ballpoint.
Anyone spending more than $5 for a pen and arguing about comfort, building quality, ink colors, "pleasure or writing", or any other writing fedora meme is a fucking faggot.
$100AUD pure titanium rollerball with a Faber-Castell ink refill. It's from Big I, has a stylus on the back which is neat too.
Cheap 3 in one pen/Laser pointer/led from Wal-Mart. 3 bucks.
Its what engineers and robot maintenance use...because it's a multi function working man's tool. Anything less is a bag of bics. Anything more is fucking pathetic and pointless.
If you spend more than 5 bucks on a pen kys

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

First for X230
best actual 14' or 15' laptop for college?
I have $200
Reposting from last thread:
Tech illiterate here. Considering buying a T430 or X230 since both of them are in my price range (max 350-400€) and seem to be a direct upgrade to their predecessors in most regards. Screen and battery life is most important. Don't care about potatobility. Want to use it as learning experience.
Suggestions on which to buy?
Help me out here /g/ what's the benefit of using an SSD?
It's faster.
More shock resistent.
Smaller and weigh less.
Speed
That's it. Do you need that speed? Yes? Buy one. No? Just get whatever you want. I have 3 WD blues, 2 of which are 4 years old and both show no signs of failing, so I bought the same one as my 3rd.

This is not your thread. This is about running a MORE open os and DEFEATING planned obsolescence.
I run stock, but rooted and with a ton of xposed mods on my one m8.
The thing is that the stock is more stable with all those feutures that i use. I tried cm and some aosp based ones before but i just cant deal with the bugs.

CM12.1 with microG

Were you running a nightly or one of the more stable builds? I've never had any major bugs unless I was on the bleeding edge.
There are people IN THIS BBS that LEGITIMATELY and NON-IRONICALLY use Linux.

What's a good mini computer to use as server?
Currently running a raspi 1 & 2, but they're not powerful enough. Any better alternatives?
GPIO is obviously unneccesary.
I have 4chan x with Oneechan, but how do I get the threadwatcher window to stay persistent and in the right-hand column like how I see on some setups?
How much of an improvement will cannonlake be over kaby lake?
Does going from 14mn to 10mn really make that much of a difference?
>>55663534
It's going to be a 5% improvement in speed.
>>55663534
The only improvements will come through IPC >>55663674
From this point on Intel will be focusing on energy efficiency instead of raw speed. We won't see faster single-core speeds potentially for many years, unless a major breakthrough in processor design comes to market.
>>55663534
And of course, prices for Skylakes will stay the same and Kaby Lake wil cost 50$ more and Cannonlake - 100$ more?
I kinda hoped for like 200$ for Skylake i7s, but I guess Intel dont care about price dropping, they just remove old models from shops.
So what's the consensus on this?
With the free upgrade period coming to an end, I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Windows 10 from 7. The main reason I want to get it for DX12, but is there anything I need to know before jumping in?
>>55663493
It's a great OS that only Linux cocksuckers dislike for unproved and wrong reasons.
/thread
>>55663493
It's alright, useful mostly for games. I still prefer OS X for general purpose and Linux for devving
Simple - if you are going to make clean install of Windows - pick 10. If you want to just conitnue using existing - stay with 7, but upgrade and then roll back right away to keep key upgraded, just in case.
Win 10 is not as messy as everyone is saying, but it is not honestly much better than 7. Search function of Start Menu works really fast and have 8.1 native virtual disks mounting and thats basically all pros I found out.
Require work with settings at start, tho, for disabling a lot of crappy fuctions.
