/g/, is my GPU broken or what's up?
Today I turned on my PC but as soon as it Windows boots up, I get a black screen. Nothing works.
When I get into secure mode, I can get into Windows normally. When I remove all graphics drivers, I can boot Windows normally because it uses the Intel GPU.
But as soon as I install AMD drivers, nothing works anymore.
Is my GPU broken? Could it be a drivers problem?
It's an AMD 7870.

Try an Ubuntu live dvd and see if it works there.

How much better is DDR4 than DDR3?
Is DDR4 going to completely replace DDR3 very soon?
>>55667369
evolutionary
yes, but ddr3 will be on the market for yeas to come
DDR4 has 288 pins and DDR3 only has 240 pins so it's 1.2 times as fast
>>55667369
Power consumption and voltages are the big draw IMO with DDR4, less stress on the CPU IMC is a good thing.
But there's DDR3 that runs at DDR4 speeds, i'm not sure of the throughput difference between them though, its probably not much.
What is the best monitor as of 2016?
That EIZO Foris for 1000 bucks. Literally he best colors and blacks you will ever find on a 1440p, 144Hz screen. That his has basically everything. Only way it could be better would be if it was a VA panel instead so you actually have proper black, not the IPS pseudo blacks.
Those acer's look nice. I just need a 27" monitor for digital editing. Is this good for the price?
Most 4K monitors seem to be much more expensive.
>>55667534
Doesn't VA have horrendous backlight bleed?
Do you use a footrest?
>>55667208
Nice hidden footthread
>>55667208
No, found out lowering my chair doesn't require one now.

but you might be too low for your desk
i use makeshift footrests, trying to find a better option but all "professional" things look uninteresting or clunky
how to run newer programs in windows xp

If it doesn't support XP, it doesn't support XP. End of subject. Either upgrade to 7 or install a GNU/Linux distrobution.

i don't if this will work. It's just an idea

i don't know*
I recently built my first PC for VR game development, but I don't want to sell my iMac.
I currently have them both on the same desk using Synergy, and it works great, but wanted to know if there are any other apps or uses that I should be utilizing. I can also switch the mac to Bootcamp so I can use any software.
Are there any uses during programming or graphic design that any of you can think of for a multiple computer setup, or is it retarded? I still don't know how I'm going to sync files between the two.
>>55667083
>control
If you want independent displays, stay with synergy, if you want every display for each device, a good KVM set.
>file sharing
I can't recommend network storage enough. It's the way to go.
>>55667083
>2016
>macintrash literally has to use some gimped 3rd party multi-computer screen spanning shit just to get multi-monitors working
AYYLMAO
>>55668958
The reason this became an issue in the first place is because of Apple's retarded restriction of using the iMac screen as a display monitor. It can only output, otherwise I would have loved to use the beautiful 1440p APA monitor with my PC. I don't want to let it go, though, so synergy is the best I can do.
>I can't recommend network storage enough. It's the way to go.
I'll be honest I don't know much about that, seems pretty hardcore and expensive. I was hoping I could connect an external hard drive to my PC and just share it over the network to the Mac.
I have 3 1TB HDDs. One is 6 years old, so I expect it to fail relatively soon. The other two are new (the OS is on an SSD, for what it's worth.) Is RAID5 worth doing for 3 drives?
Not in your case, it'll take ages to restore everything and remake the RAID when the oldest drive finally dies.
>>55667188
What do you recommend? Get a fourth drive and go for RAID10?
>>55667237
Recently I had to restore a RAID0 volume after one of the drives died, that took quite a while because the backup was stored on another PC and the only way to get it from there was using an external HDD. If you want to go through the hassle of restoring, go ahead. I would prefer replacing the drive.
What happened to women in technology? Is there a modern day woman computer scientist that even comes close?
didn't she pass away recently? R.I.P.

There are lots of trannies in tech.
Will desktops still be a thing for mainstream consumers in 10 years?
I imagine only hardcore gamers, professionals who need high-end hardware, and autists will still need desktops at home.
Hopefully not. Then desktops become a thing for nerds again where all owners are shunned by society. Feels good, can't wait.
>>55667020
>becomes a niche market
>becomes over expensive like a mechainical keyboard vs an entry rubberdome from the bestbuy next door.

That being said, I can't wait to have a device like pic related going mainstream.
Finally we'll be able to install arch on smartphones.

When are you supposed to go for an hdd defrag ? How often should i ?
Honestly, I'd say about once a month. More frequently of you download and edit files excessively. I defrag about every 2 weeks.
I take my hdd to the doctor to be defragged when it's been hit with a frag

Check AMD prices. Also check other euro prices like germany and import them.
