It's all wank anyway. Their computers are amazing. But fuck their phones/tablets.
What parts of the IT profession are and are not dying? I have been studying for awhile to get my A+ Certification and possibly go for CCNA but Im not sure if Im wasting my time. Is there any sector with a future in which I can easily get good job? Or should I just start with programming and only programming?
I am almost 26 years old and need to act fast. I just don't want to waste time and money going for wrong certificates down the wrong path.

Eli Vid for reference, I have watched it already but would like second opinions on what IT job jobs will be gone and antiquated soon.

No one knows what the future holds but you're going to see less tech departments and more tech contractors.

Is VR ever going to actually take off soon? I want to explore new worlds and planets with friends
I hope so, but it seems kind of slow
>>56314634
This is the second time there has been a "VR surge", with the first one happening in the mid-90's.
Current VR is much better, with better graphics in games, higher-res screens to look at them, and much more powerful hardware driving everything. It will STILL probably fail, since (so far) current VR:
-is extremely expensive
-is too messy (500 wires from 12 different sources all converging on your head)
-has limited good games
It will most likely die, just like what happened in the 90's. 20 years from now, a new VR boom will come along, maybe with 8K@240Hz screens for each eye, with a headset that works wirelessly, and a large library of good games. Then it might have better success.
As an early adopter to the VR scene this generation, its not ready for wide spread consumer use. It's a technical demo of the current state of the technology but everything from hardware ease of use, size, positional tracking, input methods, and graphical fidelity all are not robust enough for the typical casual. Right now it requires that you have a pretty superb GPU which most people either don't have yet or think are too expensive to buy. Not even to mention the intricacies of the new hardware integration and random issues that still need to be resolved like headset jitter from poor tracking solution and movement/motionsickness issues with some people.
Its simply not there yet. And this is coming from somebody who ran out and bought a Vive and recently got a gtx1080 just for VR. Its fun and unique. Every person I showed it to thought it was fun. But it just can't be that replacement UI for a standard controller and TV yet.
Is there a point of choosing the GUI version of a program instead of the CLI one?
>>56314610
Not being a virgin animeNEET fedora tipper for one.
Sometimes. A GUI can give you more information at a glance than a CLI or even ncurses interface. For partition management, for instance, a good GUI can represent volumes graphically and show them to you so instead laughing as you mess up am entire disk because you misread a start sector by one digit.
However, CLIs are usually much more rugged and adaptable if something goes wrong elsewhere in the stack, so if an application only needs to output to the user things that a line of text can show, there's no reason except aesthetics to use a GUI.

>free (libre)
>free (gratis)
Whats the difference
Gratis means free, Libre is the autistic version.
Gratis means you don't pay for it. Libre means you are allowed to use it however you like and do what you want with it. There is tons of software that meets the former but not the latter.
libre = free as in freedom. You can do any-fucking-thing
gratis = free but with limitations

I'm not trying to ask "HOW DO I BECOME A HACKRE?!!1"
I'm generally asking if I'm headed in the right direction. I've been learning HTML for about a month, intrigued in Python, and I'm on "Hack this site" for a couple hours a week browsing the general forums for more information.
For some reason, I feel like I've hit a gap. It's as if I'm almost about to understand a lot of the terminology and way things are handled.
I want to go deeper. If you have some websites or other tips on what I should do next, that'd be fantastic.

Gah I hate WordPress! How the fuck does the entire internet run on it?
I just want to get my content out to people and not fucking around with a zillion things. Why doesn't my page take up the whole screen? Why is it arbitrarily like ~800 pixels wide? Why is there fucking white space everywhere?

>>56314069
I know HTML and CSS. When I launched my newest site though I thought "I'll use Wordpress. It's what everyone uses. It'll save me a lot of time and I can focus on content."
All it's meant is that I still spend a ton of time trying to do ridiculously basic shit and my website looks like trash.

Is okay to leave on with screensaver?

So how would I use object-oriented principles to make a scrabble game in Python? Everything I've done so far has been short scripts. Players can obviously be turned to objects, I suppose the board can be turned into an object, but what else?
>>56313884
Use a dictionary file to generate objects for every possible word. Make the dictionary an object too.
why the fug doesn't firefox display unicode characters?
It's not a system problem because I can copy and paste them into my terminal and they display fine
So I have a laptop with a battery that last around 3 hours.
I asked a while ago if Installing some light weight linux distro like lubuntu would increase the batterys time.
One person said: ''You should probably install the OS this laptop came with, it is optimized for that''. Since this one is used I never tried it with its original OS (windows 7).
So how true is this?
I have KDE on it and I just feel like it drains the battery in no time.
