Anti-Poettering fags are "running out of arguments" and literally BTFO. What is there to be afraid of? If you want to use a useable linux machine in the future, you might as well get used to systemd now.

the people that are for systemd have never done anything worthwile with Linux

they use it for surface level admin, copying and pasting blindly into the terminal, or as a desktop OS

Whats with "gaming" oriented hardware? I seriously don't get the hype. Pay an extra $100 for some colours, 12 usb ports and some oc features you'll never use.

First thing I do when getting a new CPU is increase core clock by like 800mhz

most of these are featuring the zx7 chipsets which are specifically built around having overclocking as a feature though

Welcome to /fglt/ - Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Yeah, I know "Flash, sucks!"
Okay, sure, but doing something in flash was easy.
If I wanted to make something draggable, with a drop shadow when dragging, and then when you let go it smoothly returned to the original position. It took like 3 lines of code.
To do the same thing in HTML5 it seems to be impossible.
Ditto with canvas.

SVG animations(combined with css and javascript) seemed like a promising start, but oh look, all the browsers are phasing out smil.

So basically if you want to make something interactive, you're fucked. You don't just get rid of something until you have a decent alternative in place.

Flash is dying by 2017 whether a replacement gets made or not.
>>
>>56313434
Nah, Flash has been 'dead' for about 2 years now. As soon as apple got rid of it and everyone else followed.
The problem is we don't have any other tools to make decent quality stuff. People say to just use canvas or HTML5, but both those alternatives aren't nearly as robust.

Can someone help me out with identifying a phone? I currently have a Nexus 6P which I thought was one of the largest as far as screen size is concerned. That is until I noticed some guy the other day using a fucktardedly huge thing that completely dwarfed my Nexus. That thing had to have like a 9 inch screen or something. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see any logos or anything since it had a case, and even when searching for 'largest smartphone 2016' most of the flagships I come across are only 5.7 inches or less, which is the same size as the 6P. I have a fetish for big phones and I need to know what the hell that was so I can get it.

xperia z ultra?
>>
>>56313425

So I looked it up and the Xperia has a 6.4 inch screen, which is huge but this seemed like much more than a .7 inch difference. Apparently it was released almost 3 years ago as well. Is there possibly anything larger than this?

so my friend is trying to convince me that he needs 64gb of DDR4 for is computer because he literally never closes tabs (as evident by these 134 tabs). his system has an i3-6100 and r9 390 and 16 gigs i think, i keep telling him he's retarded and he seems to think otherwise

any advice?

16gb of ram is plenty for tab hoarding. What he would benefit from is a better processor. Two cores is pitiful. Also he could change his browsing habits. Bookmarks exist for a reason, use them.
>>
>>56313511
he'd say kill yourself, he'd rather get two 32gig sticks and call it a day
which he says getting individual sticks as opposed to a kit will be 100% ok, which i told him he's retarded for
>>
>>56313532
It will be okay. Ideally the timings should be the same for the best performance and latency, but even if they aren't the other stick will slow down to match. Your friend is a computer illiterate retard.

How come I don't see more anons on /g/ talking about or using distros on this list
https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html

I have trisquel on a USB and it's great. The only issue I found is it don't support my wireless card and I have to mainline the internet, which isn't that bad. So why not more of y'all have completely free distros huh?

>So why not more of y'all have completely free distros huh?
Because of issues like
>it don't support my wireless card
Also, what's the point of getting a free distro if your CPU still uses a proprietary BIOS/UEFI to boot?
>imb4 "just get libreboot!"
The issue with that is most people on /g/ (those interested in "technology") wouldn't want to use hardware that's 10 years old

Hey /g/. I'm trying to make a comic viewer in javascript using html5's <canvas> element. When the user clicks on the canvas, it loads the next panel, instead of the next page (each panel is its own image file). After the page has shown all its panels, it clears the canvas so it can show the next page and its panels. I'm doing it this way instead of using .attr and simply changing the page's src because I wanna put some effect on some panels. Make one shake when something heavy falls on the ground, make another one a webm instead of a jpg, etc.

Now, what I'm worried with is, wouldn't it be too performance heavy? The function to clear the canvas, clearRect, doesn't really clears anything, just covers it all up with a rectangle. So on the same page, below all those rectangles there would be hidden like 50 images, plus some webm's, and I wanted to make it work on mobiles as well. Also, if the user were to go back a page it would've to clear again and re-insert the previous panels. pls help, /g/, I don't know much about html5 or js, I literally stated studying about it only 3 days ago.

tl;dr: comic viewer using canvas possibly too heavy due to clearRect(). solution?
