>free (libre)
>free (gratis)
Whats the difference
Gratis means free, Libre is the autistic version.
Gratis means you don't pay for it. Libre means you are allowed to use it however you like and do what you want with it. There is tons of software that meets the former but not the latter.
libre = free as in freedom. You can do any-fucking-thing
gratis = free but with limitations

Libre: free (freedom) - I'm free
Gratis: free (something) - You can get this for free
Does this self-answered question need a fucking thread? Kill yourself.

Itunes is gratis but not libre.
RHEL is (mostly) libre but not gratis.
Gentoo is mostly libre and fully gratis. Gentoo includes installation recipes for a number of nonfree programs in its primary package system.
Install a FSF approved distribution such as BLAG, Dragora, Dynebolic, gNewSense, Guix System Distribution ,Musix, Parabola, Trisquel, Ututo XS, libreCMC, or ProteanOS.

Windows 10 is a nice example. It's gratis; but microsoft sure doesn't allow you to make your own version without all the evil, and then distribute it to anyone who wants a copy.
>>56315192
This was a nice exemple. Now need pay for Windows 10.
>>56314521
Libre = open source software that respects your freedoms
gratis = costs nothing monetarily
I just don't understand it.
Gratis means you get to download it for free.
Libre means...you get to modify the source code? Who cares?
>>56314521

HUEHUEHUE BR STRONK
enjoy your shitty version of spanish
>>56315940
People who code can modify the source code.
So if the original dev abandons it or does something shitty, other people(not you, if you dont know how to.) can fork it, and you can use their version.
>>56316276
What I mean is, is the ONLY advantage of libre that you can edit the source code?
>>56316316
Well, you said 'who cares', when its actually really a pretty big advantage. It also means people can build new stuff on it freely, not just take over if something bad happens.
Anyways, I dont actually know that much about this, I just know that one because I've used and do use alot of stuff that could be forked from or built atop/with other stuff, because libre.

oh, and another thing, free access to the source code means you can compile it if theres no installer or package for your system, which is sometimes basically just as easy as an installer(./configure+make+make install, done), and even when its not its at least possible.
I compiled a free software roguelike a little bit ago, IVAN.
